Rheanite

Rheanites are a genus named after Rhea, the daughter of Uranus (the sky) and Gaia (the earth). They are large, flightless birds found on Waivunemu which are carnivorous. They have large, broad beaks with a devilish hook at the end of them, which they use to slice downwards and through when they bite, much like hatchets.

Range

Rheanites are unique to Tapuria's Waivunemu island.

Species

There are several different species of rheanite on the island, all of which are large and all of which prey primarily on moa and humans.

Red-crested rheanite

The red-crested rheanite is the smallest of the three as well as the fastest, with heads that come up to a grown man's shoulders. It forms flocks of individuals unlike the other two species, and is distinguishable because of its grey and black coloring pattern and the crest of feathers atop its head, which it uses for intimidation.

Raptor rheanite

The raptor rheanite is the largest of the three species, and is usually found in forested areas of the island. Its second toe is more flexible than the other three and is sometimes used to help grasp prey while attacking.

Tribal rheanite

Tribal rheanites come in many different color patterns are are called such because of the dark or colored markings usually found on them. They are thought to sometimes possess magic, but not much is known about them.
