History:
Childhood
Verrik Raandal grew up in within the township of Shim and led a quiet life with his father Romero and wife Julianna. His hard work on the farm made him quite strong and quite handsome, with looks that deceived his simple existence as a farmer. The days on the farm were wildly boring and aside from romps near the graveyard, and playing pranks near the large mansion of Belatucadrus his childhood was a fairly boring one until one prank went awry and a storehouse of food and ale belonging to the Black Rose was burnt by an errant firework at the age of 11. The owner of the Black Rose and his father forced him to work off his debt. The agreement stated he would work for the Tavern for the next seven years to work it off.
Adolescence/Early Adulthood
At first, the labor within the tavern was brutal as the owner was quite irate by the loss of his goods. But after the third year, he relented and gave Verrik a bit more pull within the tavern. It was when he was sixteen that he met Esmeld, a young woman of sixteen who arrived from Marn to become a serving maid at the tavern. She was quiet at first, but over time the two grew close. She confessed to him that she had escaped a life of selling herself on the streets because her father had forced her into that profession. The two finally consummated their love at age eighteen and they married. Sadly, her father returned and beat her like he used to do to the point of killing her. Enraged, Verrik slew the man. He was found innocent by the court since he was avenging his slain wife, but his sorrow drove him into the comforting arms of St. Arkon’s church. It was here that he swore chastity and a life of service in the healing arts as atonement for being unable to protect and heal his beloved, as well as repentance for his vengeful act.
Present Day:
Six years have passed. Verrik has enjoyed his life as a priest and much to the remorse of nearly every woman in Shim, he continues his optional vow of celibacy since he is only a Deacon on the account of his having intercourse before. Then, a strange man by the name of Breckt Al Anz arrives, who is aging rapidly and speaking of an Empire that he has never heard of before. After a week of caring for this old man, Verrik witnesses the man’s death. However, before the death, Breckt grabs Verrik tightly by the arm and says that he’s sorry for something he must do. Then, with a gasp Breckt says, “I’m going to find you…” and dies.
A couple days have passed, and now he feels something within his mind. His eyes, which never lingered on women since Esmeld’s death, have been looking at them more intently. The looks aren’t entirely sexual in nature, but they seem to be searching, searching for something to pierce the void. He also notices that his hair has begun to change. From fully blonde to having streaks of black. His eyes, a strange mixture of blue with crescent moon greens within. His body feels vibrant, laughter more easy, almost joyful. . He is unsure of the meaning behind all of these meanings but suddenly he feels a need to go to Marn. And all the while, he finds himself saying one name over and over again…Morena.
NOTES:
As you might have guessed from this character profile, my guy has the spirit of Breckt Al Anz within him, but he isn’t that prominent yet. The closer he gets to Morena, the more insistent his presence will be. Until then, he is open to play with other characters. With his fusion with Breckt Al Anz comes his own history and that of the illustrious pirate and knight from the far off Empire. And this translates into 8 or so years of memories that I’ve had with Breckt.
And don’t worry, he’s a good guy
