Vendetta: How to Make a Killing

Qadis, a city where lives were cheap and death was affordable. It was, to be completely frank, Diego's kind of city. If you were properly paid up and in the good graces of certain individuals, you could cut a throat in an alley and the street rats would not remember a thing. In fact, they'd remember being elsewhere, and 'wasn't that lucky or it might have been their throat cut'. Yes, Diego liked Qadis, and some parts of Qadis even liked him.

So it was that Diego was feeling quietly optimistic, with a pleasant splash of nostalgia added in, as he rode into the Quijan Port City. He wore the clothing of a courier, and rode the kind of nag which would never win a show but could put on a turn of speed in a pinch. He had an afternoon mostly free, a night to kill, and a berth on the Sea Hawk to board the morning after.

It is worth mentioning, though, that not all of Qadis liked Diego. Nor were the remainder ignorant or indifferent. There were in fact certain invested parties contracted to immediately notify some very interested individuals when the Moruan assassin was next spotted in the city. And of those parties watching for him, the Society of Negotiated Loyalties had the widest spread of influence and talent available to them.

It was perhaps unfortunate that part of Diego's task required him to finish the role of courier with a delivery to one of Morua's factors in the business district. It was there that watchful eyes noted the unfamiliar courier, and more importantly the colour of his eyes and scarred left cheek. It was there that the Society's web was first stirred, and its members carefully noted the assassin's movements while the daylight hours let them blend in with the thronging crowds on the port city's busy thoroughfares. And while the Society's 'citizens' were keeping tabs of Diego's location, their masters were fulfilling the Society's contracts with those wanting to know of Diego De Morua's presence in Qadis.

Within an hour, House Belleza had notified their own agents within Qadis of Diego's presence, and kept them apprised of the information obtained at great expense from the Society. And if all went well, they'd carve Diego into pieces, along with whatever damned Moruan intrigue he was perpetrating. There was a debt of blood owed by Diego De Morua, responsible for the death of Argoza Rodrigo de Belleza, and they planned to see it paid in full.
