Gregory Bone

Post by Gregory Bone » Thu May 29, 2014 9:14 pm

Player Name: Gregory Bone
Name: Gregory Bone
Age: 15
Race: Elf
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 60 Kilograms.

Physical Description:
Appearance:
The face has a triangular structure, being thin it gives the chin a bit of a pointy finish. A plain face, with no scars or any acne. The eyes are a bit deep inside the skull, like little holes in his face. The nose isn't extraordinarily long like Pinocchio, just the regular sized nose.

His hairs are of medium length, ending right after the neck from the back, and covering very little of the forehead, just like in the above image. The hair color is light pinkish, and his hairs are straight and silky. His eyes are a bit pointy at the edges and are smaller in terms of size, the color of his eyes is hazel. His eyes have a touch of wonder to them, those who stare into his eyes, depending on their personality might find themselves staring into a whole universe, comprising of hope, love, kindness and warmth.

Normally, he has a straight posture, mostly full of energy. Whenever he walks, is back is straight like a red wood tree. The usual expression on his face is a gentle smile, a warm welcoming smile. Mostly interpreted as a gentle person at heart because of this smile, some might interpret it as the smile of a sly fox with certain 'intentions' in mind. Normally, his eyes appear to be closed because of this wide grin/smile on his face. When he get's angry, that smile disappears, little lines appear on his forehead and his cheeks get a bit red, those little eyes open a bit wider when he's angry. In times of despair or sadness, he maintains that smile, it's very difficult to differentiate either he's in a normal mood or he's sad because there's hardly any difference.

Attire:
He wears a tight fit top, resembling a dress shirt if you will. The color is grey and the top two buttons are always unbuttoned, revealing a little of his chest, the sleeves are always rolled up to a few inches below the elbow joints. On his both hands he wears half finger gloves, similar in color to his top, the cloth used is nothing but normal clothing used in current times.

Gregory wears a loose fit bottom, resembling the jeans of current times, the color of the jeans is dark blue and has the imprints of dust as a design all over it. On his feet, he wears regular shoes.

Possessions: A staff of 5' in length, it's thin and only 3" wide and pitch black in color. It has a dark grey watermark kind of a symbol embedded in it's middle, right at 2.5'. The symbol resembles a Golem with a rocky structure with a cape on it's back and a crown on it's head.

The staff itself belonged to a Golem lord in Astral plane, that Golem lord was defeated by Gregory's father, who cursed not only his father but the whole family, making the staff an embodiment of that very curse. However, his father was able to turn the curse into a weapon and he was a master of this weapon, besides him no one was able to control it. The staff was then passed on to Gregory's guardian, who being human did not recognize the true potential of the staff. Being rigid than normal wood, he only used is a weapon and taught Gregory to use it in the same manner, as a mere stick to extend his reach in terms of battle.

The staff has the ability to summon Golems from the Astral plane, by opening a portal of sorts bringing the Golem into the primary reality, what kind of Golem is summoned can be controlled but that can only be done with a vast knowledge of the 'side step' concept and one's own prowess in terms of magic.
Powers or Strengths:
- In terms of Melee combat, he is good with the staff, in long, medium and close range. Though the long range extends to the total length of the stick plus the length of his arm. In mathematical figures, 5' + 1.7' (rough estimate of a single arm's length)
- Being an elf, he has more dexterity and added ability to process situations and act accordingly to them at a faster rate as compared to humans.
- The staff being not a usual staff, so it can't be cut by a normal blade. The rigidity of the staff can be considered equivalent to or less than steel.
Weaknesses:
- The staff even though is rigid is still wood and is thus vulnerable to fire.
- Any thing that's has a longer range than his maximum long range is a weakness, including weapons spells and the likes.
- Currently, he is unaware of his magical abilities and is unable to use them.

History:

And so it begins
It was the year 137 PW, the middle of the day in Darleone Island, in the city of Thyrsaer eindral Maelaesaer that rests in south eastern part of the island, in a small house, it was chaos everywhere. A man in his thirties sat in the corner, biting his nails while the ladies of the house ran here and there, someone shouting to get more warm water, while the others ran to get clean towels. The other males of the family were also present, doing their part to tell that man in the corner that everything was going to be okay. The chaos continued for a few minutes, after which the ladies running here and there, some of them disappeared into a room while the others waited at the door.

Only loud cries of a lady in pain came from the room but no one else spoke a single word. For a moment, everyone present halted as if they had been turned to stone those cries were then accompanied by another voice, a smaller voice, the voice of a young baby. That day, another male joined this household.

The family consisted of two brothers, both of them were mostly alike and the age between them differed only in minutes so the head of the family was well a questionable matter. The profession of the family was trade, they exported the goods from the island to the outside world, being the owner of a single trade vessel it was a humble family not too wealthy but things weren't too bad either. He was named a different name, his real name was Brian G. Lawrence(G stands for Gordon), but he doesn't have a memory of this name.

Tides of Misfortune
It was a warm night, smooth and gentle wind blew making the small trade ship sway a little as it continued on it's path to deliver some trade goods to the city of Marn, the trade shape was headed for the ofriyu river, where it intended to harbor for a few days, do business and return to the homeland of Darleone Island. The owners of the small ship was a small family of elves, among them was a small boy, who was the son of the owner of this vessel. The boy, only a few years old was brought along by the father and mother, since it was a small family and every male and female had to help out in whatever way they could. At the time, the little boy was only a year old.

The distance from ofriyu river wasn't much when they saw a ship with no flag headed their way, it was odd that the ship had no flag, they had entered the territory of Thar Shaddin so it could have been the guard who wanted to check on what kind of ship was heading this way. Looking through the binoculars though the captain of the ship, who held a black colored staff in his other hand could not see clearly who was the crew of the ship and when he did see it, it was too late. The ship was a pirate ship and there intentions were clear, taking advantage of the night they intended to raid this small trade vessel.

Even though, they tried to out maneuver them, then tried to defend them using magic since they were elves, they were boarded and once boarded it was an all out battle. However, they were severely outnumbered and most of them could not last long, in a matter of minutes after the ship was boarded, the deck of the ship was filled with blood. Only Gregory's mother locked herself with her one year old child in the captain's cabin while the captain remained outside protecting the door, though he must have put up quite a fight since the ship did dock but as it did, there was no sign of life. Among the crew that was responsible to unload trade ships into the harbor was a man named Dustin Bone. When they entered the ship, all they saw was blood and a man covered in blood, holding a fainted child in his arms, and the body of a dead woman in his other, while at his side laid a staff.

With his dying breath, Gregory's father entrusted Gregory to that man and asked him to take care of the young boy as he passed the staff onto him, saying that when the time comes give it to him, until then teach him the ways of defending himself.

Another Life
When the boy came to, his entire world had been turned upside down. He found himself in a home that he was not familiar with and with a man he did not know. For days, he did not eat or speak and remained in the room that he was given but as time went on, those scars in his heart simply faded as he was too young to realize what had actually happened. The kindness of his guardian helped him recover. Whether it was a stroke of luck or fate, he had ended up with a man who a weapon's expert, he could plenty of tools like swords, sticks and other weapons that martial artist's wielded. Just to make a living he worked the night shift at the harbor.

His wife and he had no children so they took him in as one of their owns, after the judges had approved of him staying there since he was too young to know any kind of magic. His data was entered and the chapter was closed. Dustin though had knowledge in other forms of martial arts but he mainly focused on teaching Gregory with the staff he was entrusted with. The name Gregory was proposed by his beloved wife, Mariah Dustin, who too loved Gregory as her own child.

As time passed by, Gregory grew fond of his guardians and respected and lived with them like a normal human, though he wasn't a normal human and questions did arise in his mind about his origins but he was simply told that he was found on a quiet night in the harbor in an abandoned ship, to this day he is unaware of the reality. The only thing he does know however, that he is not a human but rather an elf.

Life Goes On
After 14 years of that incident in the harbor, he has grown to be young handsome man. Now he helps his guardian at the harbor as a simple laborer and his skills with the staff are not exceptional but are okay for a martial artist who has trained with the stick since his childhood. In the day, he doesn't roam around much though he has an inquisitive mind and he tries to understand how things work around him and is over analytic of things he comes into contact with, it comes to him like a second nature. Growing up in Marn, he too has learned like all the others the Tomes of the First Settlers.

Being an elf, he works more than the usual laborer and has a bit more pay that others because of that, reducing the work load on his Dustin who is very happy of the young lad. In his 15th birthday, he was given the staff by Dustin as a gift and now he usually carries it around like a normal weapon, unaware of the truth about the cursed staff.

One thing jumped out as I scanned the app: the current year is PW122 and the calendar counts down not up. Pw107 is in the future by several years.

Welcome to Thar Shaddin, Gregory. Thanks for your application.

Unfortunately, as it stands, your application isn't quite up to the standards of Thar Shaddin. I'd like to direct you to Unicorn Visions as they're a lot more flexible and not quite as restrictive as we can be. Ignore the name, it's a great forum.

If you're still interested in joining Thar Shaddin, I'll ask you to please read the Setting information more thoroughly and update your application accordingly. Particularly, you seem to be mistaken about the geography of the world. The Ofriyu Mar is an inland river, and while you might find a small fishing vessel traveling it, there would definitely be no trading ships from the sea nor any pirates. There's no harbor. It's also a very long way to travel from Darleone, and no one would have any reason to travel that far just to reach Marn. Marn isn't very interesting in the larger scheme of things. It's basically in the middle of nowhere.

Darleone elves also tend not to have very English names like Brian. They are more often named in ways similar to what the cities and other things on the island are named, (e.g. Thyrsaer eindral Maelaesaer). There isn't any specific rule about how you do this but you should choose names that sound like they fit the setting.

Although humans make up the majority of the population of Marn, there are still very many elves that live there, as well as half-elves, gnomes, dwarves, and so on. Gregory's presence, as far as race goes, wouldn't be questioned. Elves don't necessarily work harder or get paid more than other races, either.

You've created a character that is primarily designed for combat and magic. Our main focus here at Thar Shaddin, when it comes to character creation, is to create a character that is essentially a real person, in the sense that they should have a personality. They should not be some special person destined to fulfill a mystical role -- most people are not in a position like that, in reality or in our setting. You will need to flesh the character out more, include more about who they are as a person. Another way to put it: if you took out the magic staff, the way the parents died, and the combat ability, you wouldn't have anything left to say about the character except "he's an elf from Darleone who now lives in Marn". If he was a fleshed out character, you would have a lot to say about him if you took those "special" parts out.

Lastly, I'm not sure if English may be your second language. My apologies if that is the case, but I feel that, as it stands now, your grammar needs some improvement, as it can be difficult to read at times. Work on sentence structure and wording a little more, if you choose to rewrite your application.

Again, sorry about that, Gregory, but we uphold these standards for a reason. Unicorn Visions is much more open, so please do have a look around on their forums and see if it suits your needs better.
