Laurium, Eyropa
Due to technical problems, I'm not able to post all the information on Laurium. Darrik was kind enough to do me the favor of posting it for me until I can have time on a pc.

Re: Laurium, Eyropa
===Laurium Hierarchy===
Most people who have visited the relatively peaceful city would call them backwards. Unlike most cities, the laws do not force the people to cower before those of royal blood or of higher rank. The citizens of Laurium are mostly kind, good natured, and polite. Some can be gruff and to the point but never cruel or mean without a good reason.
Cyril, the leading founder of Laurium, had been unanimously elected to lead the city. He along with the other founding members formed the very first council of Laurium. The main goal of the council is to maintain fairness and order for all the citizens of Laurium.
The other aspect they have is the running of the water clockworks in the town. Any man who shows promise in the various talents needed to maintain the inner workings, is encouraged to develop it. After becoming fourteen, they can choose to go to the training school to be mentored by the seniors in a field best suited to the youth.
The council also have their own guard to protect the citizens from those travelling through looking suspicious to petty crimes such as pickpockets, thieves, and the occasional rowdy drunk. Even though they have military training, the guard are more like peacekeepers than anything else.
One of the council of Laurium's best ways they have developed to keep order inside the city is permits. If anyone sells anything from produce, trinkets, wares, or their trade they need to have an approved permit to do so. If someone wishes to run an establishment, it has to be done through the proper channels or they will be closed down. Those who break the laws have the choice of paying a fee or spend time in a cell below the council's building. Fee and time is celebrants on the severity of the crime.
===Laurium's Trade and Agriculture===
With a wide, steady flowing subterranean river flowing underneath the city to tap into, all of the fields and grasslands are always lush. Most years the farmers can even receive two grain harvests if the weather permits. The cattle produce some of the best milk around and the cheese made from it is of high quality.
Flocks of sheep roam the rockier landscape where it is impossible to farm, grazing on the grass and producing fine, silky wool to spin into clothes, blankets, and fine rugs. The land that is farmed grows grain mostly along with a variety of herbs and vegetables and fruits.
The people of Laurium always sell or trade what they do not need in the market stalls, shops, or offer it to those neighbours who are too sick or elderly to make it on their own. The city is also open to trade to other cities and people who travel through. What they have in food and wool, they lack in metals so will often barter a trade in goods with other cities to get it.
===Recreation in Laurium===
From meadows to sprawling city streets, there is pleanty to explore and sights to see. There are market stalls, shops that sell jewelry and books, cafés, perfume stalls, and almost anything imaginable. Near the center of Laurium is the Entertainment plaza that can sit almost all the citizens.
Here you can watch jugglers, musicians, troubadours, and street performers take their turns in front of all to see. Some were born and raised in Laurium while others were simply stopping on their way through.
Right off the plaza is a large building with a fountain in front of it that is the public bath house. The building g is divided into five sections. The two smallest rooms is the male and female changing rooms. The two medium rooms is the seperate baths for male and female. The final and largest room is the public baths with sections that have foliage to give a sense of privacy for those who seek it. The baths are one of the very few establishments that stay open every day except city and empire holidays.
If it is something darker that a person seeks, there is another establishment that could be sought out. That is, if they knew where to look. Deep in the underground caves that were hewed by the river Hyperborea, is a burlesque. It is run by the evil mole people and if you have the money, almost anything one could desire can be found here
From spirits to 'company', hard to get information, entertainment, all can be found there and more. The peacekeepers have been trying to find it for years to no avail. They would either get lost or simply give up. But, if you know who to ask, a paid guide could lead a customer directly to the burlesque bar.
[Copyist's note: You do realise I was joking about the burlesque bar and evil mole people, right? Because if you leave this in for too long, I will make one of these evil mole people, and it will be too late =p ]
===Laurium's Water Clockwork===
At first glance the city looks relatively normal of ancient Greek Corinthian architecture. Aqueducts can be seen guiding water to the various public fountains, the public bath house, and the irrigation to the fields in reach. What most don't notice, is the water wheels and gears that churn behind the scenes.
The water for the aqueducts that lead into the irrigation systems, is pumped using the power of a water wheel that is moved by the river Hyperborea. The added pressure allows the water to travel farther out to the farmers who need it most. This way, crops can be grown with a better and more reliable harvest year to year.
Smaller pipes lead from the gutters on the left side of major roads in town. They drain water from the gutters to keep the cobbled roads from being flooded in the rain. In doing so, it also prevents too much erosion and helps keep Laurium a cleaner place.
For those citizens who are wealthy enough, there are washing sinks for hands that use water clockwork as well as alarm clocks. Near the edge of the city limits is two watermills. With the power of their own water wheel underground, a tall, narrow, stone wheel will roll around in a steady circle using gears. Grain is laid out before it on a long stone table that is scooped so the wheel cannot slide out of place.
Much of Laurium's prosperity and way of life is in thanks to Cyril and the other founders. Cyril, for the vision and know how and the others for helping him make vision a reality.
