"At least the roads are starting to dry."
Clarisse said to herself as she weaved though the throng of people crowding the downtown streets of Marn. The sounds of merchants shouting their wares to people passing by filled her ears, as well as the random shouting and breaking glass from the nearby taverns. The sounds annoyed her, she never understood city people much, everyone talking at once like clucking hens made her wonder if anyone actually knew what anyone was saying.
Glancing over her shoulder Clarisse looked for Morveya, making sure she hadn't lost the herbalist as she moved through the crowd. As she looked her eyes caught the sight of her snow white hair, standing out in contrast to the earth tone colors that the locals seemed to wear. Once she had her attention Clarisse pointed to their destination, an Inn a few buildings down from there current location named The Arrogant Dryad. Clarisse had spoken briefly of it after traveling party had gone their separate ways, saying that they would most likely be able to get a room or two at the Inn, seeing as the owner owed her a favor or two.
Nothing about the Inn was particularly special, its worn brick exterior showing its age as well as blending it in with the rest of the buildings on around it's street corner, the only thing telling it apart from its neighbors was an old wooden sign bearing its namesake and iconic sword wielding dryad effigy.
Clarisse pulled open the large oak doors shortly after reaching the inn and quickly disappeared into the dimly lit building. It took a moment for her eyes to adjust to the gloom but her feet knew where to go, they had made this trip countless times before.
"Clare? What are you doing back so soon? Seems like you just left." A bald grizzled looking man said from behind the bar, twisting his handlebar mustache as he spoke.
"It was an easy job Horus, not much to do. Though i will need to rent a room or two from you again." Clarisse said to the man and tossing a small pouch of coins onto the bar, " I have a guest of sorts staying with me tonight, ill let her deal with the arrangements, that should be enough to cover the cost either way."
"I see." Horus said feeling the weight of the pouch before pocketing it and handing Clarisse a tankard full of a dark liquid."So this guest of yours she an associate of yours? Or is she here for... personal... reasons. If you don't mind me asking of course Clare."
"Business Horus, if i needed entertainment for the night I would go across the street and spend my bishani at the brothel." Taking a long sip of her drink she let out small sigh as the liquid ran down her parched throat, "You'll know when she comes in shes not a regular, if she asks where I am tell her I'm taking care of some last minute business."
"Speaking of which, hes in the back room, last table on the left. Said he was expecting you and your guest either today or tomorrow judging by the weather." The barkeeper said thumbing to a set of doors to his left leading to a different section of the inn.
"Thanks Horus, and one last thing, next time you call me Clare you'll be serving drinks with nine fingers." Clarisse said Vanishing through the doors to talk to her most recent employer.
"As you wish Miss Dronne."
