Description

As elves go, Horatio Debouch is ignorant, insane, lewd, and sometimes a brute. As humans go, Horatio Debouch is air-headed, arrogant, adulterous, and most of the time a pansy. Horatio can't help it if his definition of fun is annoying to most people. But those that know him, past the performer, know that he is in fact a kind, worldly man, who's wisdom reaches beyond the common line of logic. His physical appearance is rather handsome; a strong, kind face, a lean, muscular body. The kind of guy most women would swoon over, a fact that He ratio has exploited to his pleasure.

His human and elvish features blended together so well that only upon close inspection could one tell that he wasn't fully human. Either that, or you could just listen to him sing. His ears still retain a small point at the top of them, his eyes still retain a sort of glow, and his hair still retained the almost magical shimmer of his elvish ancestors, but these have all been dimmed down by the human blood in him. In fact, the only thing that didn't lessen was his voice, as if the gods chose for him to become what he is today.

His clothing is also just as reserved. He usually wears a simple loose white tunic under his enchanted red leather vest, a simple pair of loose-fitting worn canvas slacks, a pair of enchanted dark-brow leather boots, a magic dagger sheathed and hung on black sash around his waist, and his instruments, his guitar slung on his back and his flute in a case tied to his guitar-strap.

He is a performer first and foremost, entertaining people wherever he goes. He enjoys seeing the smile on people's faces when they've enjoyed his songs and stories, and especially when they drop money into a collection pot or something he's put out for the same purpose. He enjoys the women's looks at him, and enjoys their blushed cheeks and flustered behaviors when he starts "flirting" with them. Whether or not they're with anyone when he commences the flirtation is completely secondary.

His second "profession" is that of an adventurer. He will happily take up a cause and go with a party to journey around the world. And don't think that his being a bard makes him a lousy travel companion. If someone needs to be charmed, he will charm them. If a beast must be lulled to sleep, he's put it to sleep. If someone needs to be assassinated in the dead of night, he'll do it even if he doesn't like it. And if an army needs to be attacked head-on, he'll convince someone else to while he plays back-up with his instruments and his Music Magic.

History

Horatio was on his own from a very young age on the streets and back-allies of Shim, learning to survive and fight. His earliest memory is of looking up at a beautiful woman, presumably his mother, her smiling face and raven-black hair hovering over him as the sun shown through the leaves on a beautiful day. It was odd, even now he felt warm and safe when he thought of that memory. Maybe that's how he was able to grow up in a place like that, scrounging the streets for scraps of food, and still retain a positive attitude.

He spent most of his early life on the fringes of society, charming someone or stealing from them what he needed to survive. That is, until he ran into, literally, a traveling bard named Serafin. Serafin, or Serif as He ratio came to call him, taught him the art of storytelling, of singing, of playing instruments. It was only then did He ratio truly enjoy his childhood. But this was short-lived, because one day while on their walk to the apartment they shared, they were assaulted in an alley by a gang of thieves. They ended the thieves' lives, but the cost was too great. Serafin, his Serif, had been killed.

From then on Horatio traveled the world, searching the wilderness for inspiration, and performing in any settlements he came across.

Gear and Weapons

The Guitar and Flute are basic tools for the trade of a Bard, and Horatio carries them with pride. With them, he can not only make a rather lavish living if he so chose, but he also can cast his “Music Magic” with them. They themselves are not enchanted, but they make it easier for him to work his wonders. His boots and vest, as I already said, are enchanted.

His boots let him move as quietly as he chooses, as well as doing the exact opposite. With them, he can make a grand entrance and let the clicking of his boots echo for many meters around, depending on the acoustics of the area, or slip into a room filled with people like a phantom, as peaceful and silent as death.

His vest is also rather special. Along with being a rather nice piece of fashion, it allows him to store an almost unlimited amount of items within the two pockets lining the inside of it without making any unsightly bulges. Horatio has never tried to test the limits of this magic, due to him carrying his money in pouches like normal people and only using these enchanted pockets for holstering his twin crossbows and a cash of bolts.

The only other thing he carries with him, aside from the previously mentioned, is a rather beautiful and well-crafted dagger, enchanted by the oblivious dwarves to be able to cut through even the strongest of armors. This is only used in defense, mind you, because the musician would rather use his music to sooth the savage beast then stain his hands with it’s blood.

Magical Powers

Horatio is a master of the guitar and of the flute to where he can unconsciously inspire people with hope and happiness. This "Music Magic", as he calls it, is still in the works, but he can do some basic things with it, such as influencing the minds of others, and even calling plants and animals to his aid. He can use the normal kind of spells, the ones with hand gestures, but he's only really invested in ones that would entertain and aid in his storytelling, such as creating simple illusions in the forms of sights and sounds, shooting small fireballs if only for fireworks, and simple things like that. And since he was very young, he's been extremily good at reading peoples emotions, and with his music even influence them. He can feel how others around him feel, a gift that Serafin always called "Empathy", but which Horatio just called "Really Annoying".

His voice can also be used in his Music Magic, as it is used in his performing, by adding the spells he already knows an added boost. This does not mean, however that he is a Madge by any means. He cannot constrict to the ridged, form-fitting way most wizards go about magic, and his spell list at the moment is basically limited to all that i told you up top, with a few variations here and there.

He is, on top of it all, rather skilled in the art of seduction. This may or may not be a good thing, considering he on more than one occasion seduced a rather nice looking bar when ch who was already with someone, and that someone on more than one occasion was much bigger than Horatio himself was. It isn't even a conscious skill, simply his "skill" with the ladies. It's similar to how those calling themselves "play as" in the real world say they know how to "play the game."
