Account Name: Theo
Player Name: Sean, though, more commonly known by my nickname, Twitch
Name: Theodore “Theo” Kendall
Age: 23 years old
Race: Half Elf, Half Human
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 165lbs
Physical Description:
Theo is around average height, standing firmly in the middle of the crowd. He isn’t very strong; instead his body is built in a way that makes him swift and agile, with a lean, well built frame. He carries himself with grace, walking with fluidity through the masses. His face is gaunt, and he carries with him an imposing presence. His thin, angular features bring with them a striking profile that can only be described as handsome, and his piercing blue eyes shone with an otherworldly beauty that could only be described as fae in origin. Short, dark, unkempt hair covers his head, and a thin goatee hides the subtle grin that is constantly lurking on his face.
Unsure of his current living arrangements, Theo makes it a point to wear his best traveling clothes. A pair of loose dark pants, tough boots, and a loose tunic, with a long black overcoat to keep him warm while walking that also serves as a blanket on cold nights.
Possessions:
Other than his odd assortment of clothing, Theo’s only real possession is a pocket knife that once belonged to his father. Its small blade folds neatly into the carefully crafted wooden handle. Upon the sides are delicate carvings depicting a scene of Teodinus sealing off the astral plane.
Theo always carries around his leather messenger bag as a way of protecting what little he carries on him, assuming it cant be stolen too easily if it doesn’t leave his person.
Powers or Strengths:
Theo has the ability to weave suggestions into spells as he speaks. Though he is only able to make suggestions that do not conflict with the basic reasoning a subject possesses, the suggestions are taken to be much more reasonable than they might seem at first glance. Those lacking in the area of reasoning seem to be easier to influence. Subjects caught in one of Theo’s suggestions feel compelled to carry it out until the task is complete, or until the task itself contradicts their basic reasoning.
Weaknesses:
Theo wasn’t born a natural fighter. In fact, he was born quite the opposite. Though he is quick and agile, he is also very frail, unable to fight for himself or even defend himself in a fight. Instead he learned to run and hide. If things look like they are about to turn rough, Theo’s first instinct is to sneak away and be the first to exit the area unnoticed.
It is believed that his mother’s family tree included a faerie at one point. The flighty nature of his mother and his own mischievous nature seem to speak to the truth of this belief. Theo’s actions are occasionally based purely in the realm of what he considers at the moment to be the fun thing to do, without regard for who he would be hurting in the process.
With the loss of his mother and the exile of his father Theo believes his only purpose in life is vengeance. Though he is unsure what it will accomplish, he feels that it is the only way to make peace with his past. His vengeful nature makes him almost malicious in his actions, with motives rooted in his hatred of the government of Marn and the general populous living under its control.
Theo understands that the easiest way to get what he needs if through less than legal means. He is deceitful in nature and knows how to use his lies to get what he needs, without concern for whom he harms. Anything from bending the truth slightly to crafting elaborate lies is fair game in Theo’s mind, as long as it helps him get what he needs.
History:
Theodore was born into a family who was down on their luck. With a Mother sentenced to death, an exiled father, and a secret to keep from the world, his early years were nothing to be overjoyed about.
Theo’s father, Malcolm, was born in the city of Marn. As a descendant of the Synevives, Theo’s father was held in high esteem before the incident that would ultimately lead to his family’s destruction. He held an office within the city, and was a well respected member of the community.
At a young age Malcolm had met the woman that would later become his wife. She was an outsider, but Malcolm was unable to resist the temptations he experienced when he first saw her. As an outsider and an elf, Mayria was greeted with much suspicion upon her arrival to Marn. However, much of the harsh feeling died away as Malcolm courted her, slowly but surely gaining her trust and her love, until the day came where he proposed and they became engaged.
Malcolm was 30 in the year the two married, while Mayria had just turned 45. However, her elfish features looked no older than 20, whereas Malcolm’s 30 years had not been kind to him, and even at his young age the years were showing themselves as lines formed across his face and silver streaks in his jet black hair.
For a time the two were happy. Malcolm kept the two of them supported, while Mayria’s flighty behavior kept her entertained for the time being. Eventually the two decided to start a family, and the result was a beautiful son who had his father’s eyes, and his mother’s elfish beauty.
Malcolm had spent his life trying to build up a reputation in order to leave his family with something when he passed, knowing he would never outlive his elfish wife, and his son who live well past his own short life span. He was a kind and gentle man who only wanted to see his family get by with what they needed and give them the ability to live comfortable when he was gone.
But the events that came to follow the few years after the birth of his son could never have been anticipated by Malcolm.
Starting about the time that Theo reached his first birthday, his mother started to suffer from nightmares, or at least that is what doctors originally thought. Visions of otherworldly creations came to her in her sleep, causing her to wake in panic, knowing she was straying into a realm unimaginable in the present day.
It wasn’t until the world around them started to react to these visions that anyone seemed to take notice. Malcolm had stayed up late finishing his daily work when he had heard a loud crashing from the upper floor of his house. Sprinting upstairs expecting to see his wife having fallen, he was shocked to watch as objects in the room seemed to move on their own, while his wife lie motionless in the bed, with her eyes glazed over.
These visions and manifestations of her magical abilities continued to become more prominent until the day that she was finally detected by the judges of Marn.
Actions were swift once she was discovered. The battle mages came to arrest her and put her to trial. She was quickly sentenced to death. Malcolm watched as his wife was taken away from him. He watched her mouth her final words to him as the guards dragged her out of their home.
“Hide him… Protect him”
Several days passed before Malcolm made the decision to move his son and himself to the village of Shim. People’s opinion of Malcom had changed in Marn. His reputable nature declined to nothing more than scandalous. Malcolm knew Theo wouldn’t have the life he deserved if they were to stay in Marn.
Life was rough in those times. Malcolm had lost his home and his job, his wife was taken from him and all he had left was his young son. He had managed to leave with enough Bishani to buy a small house and enough land to get by on. Together the two aged over the next few years working on their small family farm, and selling whatever they could to get by. The years passed uneventfully.
It wasn’t until Theo reached the age of 16 that his father finally recounted the story of their move and the loss of his mother. Malcolm knew he was dying at the time, and felt that his son needed to know the truth before he passed.
For every bit as loving and kind Malcolm was his son became cruel and malicious that day. Not knowing who was responsible, his lust for vengeance was only equaled by his hatred for what Marn stood for.
Several days passed before Malcolm died. Theo had changed, and he had a new focus in life.
After his father passed Theo chose to move back to Marn. Selling the farm and most of his possessions gave him enough money to get by sparingly while not having to immediately find work in the city. He was determined to learn of the powers that got him mother killed. Theo wanted vengeance, but knew it would be many years of planning before anything could come of it.
Upon his arrival back to Marn Theo managed to secure a room in the residential district within several days of his return. He began frequenting the Drunken Rat soon after he moved in. Theo would sit quietly and patiently sitting in the comer, hoping to over hear some rumor or tip that would help him on his way.
It didn’t take long before he started overhearing rumors of magical and illegal goods being sold in the historic district of the city. Several times a week Theo began taking trips to the shadier part of the city to look for something that could help him. Finally, after months of searching, Theo met an older elf named Arevus. As a dealer of rare and questionable good, Arevus helped Theo on his way by selling him several books concerning the practice and history of magic.
He studied both the history and practice as carefully as he could with the limited supply of his books. It took several years to finally get the results he was looking for, manifestation of his own magical abilities.
At first it seemed like nothing, just people giving him what he wanted. It wasn’t until he began to experiment with his interactions with people that he began to suspect there was something happening at a deeper level than just conversation and niceties.
He realized that, on a very basic level, he has the ability to weave spells into the tone and inflection of his voice, so that his suggestions became reasonable to whoever the subject was. However, his abilities were very limited, simple suggestions that didn’t conflict with a person’s morals or ideals were all he could manage. However, it was enough of a start to get what he needed.
Theo continued to make his trips to both The Drunken Rat and to the Historic district of the city. He has heard rumors of the existence of an underground magic movement, and has begun to seek out a way to find out more. He still visits Arevus who, in his old age, is beginning to show signs of his time coming to an end.
