Hello Everyone!
I'm a long time free-form rper who just recently created a character on this particular board. I've read alot of peoples posts and I thnk there's some pretty amazing writing going on. Unfortunately though, alot of storylines seem kinda deeply entrenched so I'm little bit uncertain about exactly how to get started here. I'd rather join a storyline premade by someone other than myself, being that i'm not entirely familiar with all the aspects of the world and whatnot. Is anyone beginning any new storylines? Or have a gaping hole desperately needing to be filled by a emotionally erratic society-shunning wanderer of sorts? Please let me know! I'm really anxious to get writing!

New Player Seeks Guidance
Re: New Player Seeks Guidance
Hi and welcome.
You're not alone in not knowing where to start. It's a common question with different answers. The short answer is that you have to be proactive in searching out a place where you want to write, and not be too shy to approach people and ask to join them. Your best bet if you want something enjoyable is to read the most recent in character posts that people have made and see which ones you find most interesting. The worst that could happen is that they say they don't have room.
A lot of the plots do have lengthy threads about them, but you do not have to read and know all of that information. The plot discussion topics are long now, but most of what is said is not important. They've just gotten long over time. There are also essentially two schools of thought on planning: Plan everything or go with the flow.
I'm a member of the latter group. I don't plan anything, and if I join someone's plot I don't even read back very far to find out what happened before my character entered. As I see it, I only need to know as much as my character knows, and sometimes it's better not to know what he doesn't. I only plan ahead when I have an idea I really like, but usually I just do whatever my character would do. Plans have a nasty habit of getting derailed too.
The people I write with usually tend to work with this system, but it's not for everyone and not everyone here operates that way. You might want to ask who you join how much planning they want to do around your character.
It will take some time for you to settle in either way. If your character is new to Marn, and so are you, then there's something you have in common with her.

Re: New Player Seeks Guidance
Hey I'm pretty new to the site, and to RPing outside of a board game in general. I have recieved a very warm reception from the members here and have found my little niche inside. There are a few threads here that are open to everyone. The two that I am part of "The Fix" and "The Skull and the Hand" are both open to anyone.
A tip that I would suggest is just to post in Player Communication with who you are, what kind of character you have (good, bad, magical, non magical) and what you would like to accomplish with him/her. (Training, money, renown, established storyline) And just see who posts back. We're all glad to help anyone that wants it.
Have fun! Hope to see ya in a thread!

Re: New Player Seeks Guidance
Hello, and welcome.
I have a running thread entitled "the hunt", which is not only designed to serve my character's purposes, but also for new players to just jump right in and post.
Fruggles was talking about groups before, and I belong firmly in the latter. I play with little more than a vague idea of the direction my threads will go in. That involves Zebren and Xyon meeting up and fighting it out till one of them dies. I don't even know which one that will be, yet.
Being unplanned by it's very nature, the thread is very open for side-plots and character development, or just writing. I'm slightly biased on it myself, but if you're looking for somewhere to start, I recommend my threads.
There are two, covering either side of the hunt. If you want to join either, post in the discussion thread on Plot Discussion and we can discuss there.

I have to jump.
For even if I fall, for a moment, I will fly.
