Alright ladies, I know I'm not the only ubernerd on here. Fess up. Ming, PB, Lyl? I know you loved it. Thoughts?

I hated the epilogue. Just FYI. And the whole not-dead thing just didn't work for me.

I've always been in love with Snape. This has just confirmed it. To me he symbolizes redemption, and that you can be petty, bitter, and far from nice-- but still not be evil, and in fact be working hard for good. That fits my view of the world, and I think it's a good lesson for the kiddies. It also confirms what I believed all along, and I am expecting apologies any time now from my friends who yelled at me for sticking to my guns about believing in him.

I don't care about anything in the books besides Snape.

Just kidding, kind of.

Overall, I really enjoyed the book. It had its weak moments (For instance, I agree the epilogue, while cute enough in its way, was not up to Rowling's standards.) I also wasn't thrilled by the almost sole focus on the three kids, since the minor characters are so amusing and interesting. It conveyed the feeling of isolation well, but lost some of what I expect from a Potter book.

That said, it was fun. It had some great moments (like creepy Christmas Eve at Godric's Hollow-- does anybody but me wonder if the mysterious person in the graveyard was Snape, there to pay respects to Lily?) The action was quite well done, I thought. I loved the moment when Ron had to confront his own doubts to destroy the horcrux.

I love Snape.

I enjoyed about 95% of it, so yey! Obviously there were weaknesses, but I'm not that picky about it since I love the series and the idea behind it.

But seriously, that was some kinda violence, wasn't it? The entire book I just kept thinking about all the ten year olds reading it, and how they...really shouldn't be...

I mean geez. Bloodbloodbloodblooddeathdeathblood. JK, put down the Stephen King pen for a minute, k?

His death was the worst one, for me, in a really conflicting way. I was so happy with the redemption, revelations, etc...but then he had to die! I mean...he...*sob*

Yeah, I had an actual argument about Snape in line for the fifth movie (shhh...I'm not a nerd...)...I do enjoy being right.

Admittedly, parts of the book left me unsatisfied. It just didn't feel right...I don't know. I was tempted to skim at points. Also, some things were pretty predictable (SURPRISE! Harry's got a Horcrux in him!!!), but overall, I enjoyed it. I'll have to read it again after my sister finishes, so I can take it in better, without the caffeine haze.

The epilogue was unfulfilling because for someone who clearly loves backstory, the woman provided absolutely NONE for all three of the main characters. What did they end up doing? How the hell old were all the kids? Whatever happened with Teddy, and who in gawd's name were his guardians?

I'm a godmother. If my brother and sis-in-law kick it, I'm the legal guardian of my niece. So technically, Harry is Teddy's legal guardian, but...Teddy's not...living there? What?

Harry was only 17 when Teddy was orphaned, so I can see why it might not have been possible for him to take him in, in spite of being the technical godparent. (This is why my cats have two godmothers-- the first, while still a close friend, would no longer be able to take them in should anything happen to me, so they now have a second godmother who could.)

And as you said, at age 19, Teddy probably lives on his own.

I assume Teddy went to live with someone else while Harry was still little more than a kid himself, and they may not have wished to uproot him when Harry got a bit older.

That said, I want to know who he lived with. I want facts in my epilogue, people, not just platitudes!

I assumed Ted lived with Tonks mum, Andromeda, Sirius' favourite cousin remember? I am sure she did not die.

I loved the finale, and admittedly I am NOT a fussy fan. Anything of any series I love I find very little to criticize, I just want more and am sad its finished. She tied it up well I thought, I enjoyed the non school format and thought it was fitting the last assault was on Hogwarts, as the place meant so much to so many characters. Molly absolutely rocked and Snape is also one of my favourite characters. I had suspicions about him and Lily from book six, when Slughorn mentioned Lily was ace at potions it made me wonder, and I started making some connections. I re-read the pensieve stuff in OotP and by the end of book six came to some accurate conclusions.

I loved the riddles she wove throughout the series, the Hallows and the Horcruxs. Although some have criticized how Harry came to be master of the Elder Wand I understand it all, and I cried when Dobby died... the house elves grew on me throughout the series.

Again, I love Snape, and love that I guessed it was his doe patroness, I have Calico as my witness!!! lol

I am trying to get a hold of all the audio books right now as I want to listen to all seven (read by Stephen Fry) and enjoy the entire story from start to finish without getting another migraine. lol

Btw, I loved the fact she picked up the Stephen King pen (as I am a HUGE SK fan... Dark Tower! Whoo Hoo!) but agree with Jess that for young kids it was a bit much. She was right, it really was a blood bath. Poor Hedwig.

Was anyone else hoping the Dementors were gonna turn on Umbridge in the Ministry of Magic? She needed to die... dammit.

I'm glad I finished the book before I read this way-OMG-spoiler filled thread--and with no spoiler warnings?? Well, I guess we're not the somethingawful forums. A site which delightfully pointed out recently: "spoiler never ruined Hemingway." Word. Still, happy to have not had any before I finished the book.

And yes of course I adore Harry Potter et al. Everyone who doesn't is just jealous of his magic. There, I said it. I put it out on the table, no hiding anymore.
