Cody
Cody’s first reaction too Rollick was confusion to the lack of recognition. He stared blankly at him for a moment before he realilzed there was no reason Rollik would have recognized him.
Of course a moment later he was half cringing under the glare. “It’s me….Cody.” That didn’t seem to be enough, and then there was Angel also sounding rather dangerous. He squatted down, more to make himself smaller, but also easier to start running faster.
His voice dropped another notch as he looked at both looking as if they were ready to hurt him. “You remember…Uluki gave me the mushrooms.” Oh right…He took out his small pouch, pouring out his few coins. Putting those on the ground he slid them closer to Rollick. He was afraid throwing them would be a fast action they wouldn’t like.
“She said you didn’t have money…I don’t need it.” As long as no one moved to attack him, he wouldn’t run. All he would do is stay right where he was, as tense and still as the rabbit that knows the coyote is out to get it.

Rollick didn't recognize the name Cody, and when the young man identified himself that way as though he expected to be remembered, Rollick's confusion deepened.
The young man seemed to be no threat. In fact, he seemed terrified, and as far as Rollick could see he was unarmed. He appeared to have no allies, neither bandits nor Guards. Between Rollick and Angel and Zee, there was little he could do to harm anyone.
Rollick relaxed somewhat, though his gaze continued to be rather harsh until...
Wait, the horse? Was that even possible? It had to be the horse. The bandits hadn't been close enough to hear what Uluki said. But that was impossible...
Not entirely impossible, he supposed. At the moment, probably the best explanation. Rollick had certainly seen stranger things in his life than a horse changing into a person.
Rollick suddenly felt very tired, too tired to untangle the situation. He'd talk to the young man when he'd recovered enough to think more sensibly.
With effort, Rollick bent to pick up the coins, trying not to groan from the pain the movement caused. He held them out to Cody.
"You ought to give these to the kind traveler who assisted us, instead of to us. We've put him through a great deal of trouble, and he ought to be compensated for it. Not to mention the potions, which he otherwise could have sold. As far as possible, I'd prefer he not suffer too much of a loss for having helped us. Perhaps the coins will offset that. It's what Uluki would have wanted."
That made it sound like she was dead, so Rollick quickly amended it. "I'm sure she'll agree once she wakes up."
He smiled at Cody, a tired smile, but a genuine one.

Cody? The name didn't seem to ring a bell with Angel. He had never seen this Cody lad before. But he didn't seem to be of any threat, since he seemed afraid of Angel and Rollick.
But the moment he heard Uluki's name spoken by the lad, Angel's eyes widened. How could he know her name? That seemed impossible...
He then remembered the horse they encountered earlier. Could this lad be that horse? If so, then he must be either a shape-shifter or some kind of lycanthrope. Since the lad seemed afraid, Angel figured it was the former.
His glare faded away, and was replaced with an inquisitive look that seemed to light up his eyes. "Lad...that horse...was it you?" he asked.

Cody
Cody's could feel his muscles relax as he saw Rollick's cold look lessen. His still kept a watchful eye on Angel unsure of the thoughts going through his mind, but at least now he didn't feel completely alone.
He tenativly took the offered coins when Rollick offered them. He knew Rollick wasn't going to hurt him, but he was still shaken. To be honest he didn't like being in such a confined area, but it had seemed alright since he was so close to the back.
Oh and the relief when Angel quit glaring! If he chased away multiple bandits what would he have done to someone as pathetic as Cody! Cody bobbed his up and down a few times , it was him! “Right…that was me. You pet me too.” Obviously Angel needed to be reminded of this important detail.
He imagined what Rollick said made sense, and the guy had seemed friendly enough to them. Cody imagined it couldn't hurt to wait and give the coins to the peddler. He turned his head to look outside for a moment as if he'd actually be able to see him. Of course, at the time the man was still up front, controlling the horse and cart to take them to their destination. Supposedly they were going to a place to help Uluki if he understood correctly.
"Alright." He felt bad for not helping them, but if the chance came up he knew he would do the same thing he had done before; run away.
Eventually the cart came to a stop, and a much more relaxed Cody was ready to exit with people who were once again possible friends.
No. No. No. Maybe he shouldn't have tried to come into the city with them. Now there was another woman, this one blocking the exit. He stared at her, his somewhat relaxed muscles again going completely rigid. He kept most his attention on her, but took a second to glance at Rollick and Angel for moral support. Of course he hadn't bothered to tell anyone how scary women were, and most humans didn't seem to realize it.
He shivered watching this one, inwardly begging her to disappear. Cody wasn't bothering to pay too much attention to the details of what she and the peddler said...he'd probably be able to think back on it later, but right now the only thing crossing his mind was a wish to escape.
The peddler didn't seem too scary at first, not in comparison to the female. Still, he had no intention of getting quite close enough to touch him...just to be safe. However, his plans turned awry. The stress had apparently gotten Cody a bit too worked up, as he turned to exit, he started to shift out of his squat only to find himself unbalanced for a moment. Next thing he knew, there was the man's arm. Cody's landing was less graceful than normal, but not horribly so. Still, when the man left him alone for a moment Cody took another deep breath of relief. He had planned to give the others a bit of a head start so he could tag along at the rear, and exiting last that should have worked out perfectly.
He took one step and saw the man turn back to him. Oh right, he was supposed to give him the money. No reason to be so worked up...he'd been nice to his friends. He gripped his small pouch in his hand, feeling his knuckles tighten with stress when he saw the man coming back with the staff. Why? Cody's weight shifted from right to left leg and back again. He started to turn the pouch over in his hand, to give the man his coins when he found a staff pressed up under his neck.
As a horse Cody would have been gone. It would have been enough reason to turn tail and run. His human form just wasn’t quite as fast and the man’s staff would have a long enough reach to possibly hit him if he was fast enough. There was also no doubt that the staff could hurt him a lot more in this human form. His whole body started shaking as he considered running.
“I’m Cody…I’m with Uluki and..and Rollick and Angel…and…don’t hurt me..” Yah…so brave…more like completely pathetic. “Here…” He moved to offer the man the coins in his hand, it was trembling. Bolting was still a potential idea, but would he head towards the group, or just take horse form and gallop back outside the city to where it was safe? He couldn’t fight…he’d only get hurt. Cody knew from experience that a staff could hurt. Especially on the head and neck…and this one was under his chin.

Rollick was puzzled by Cody's apparent fear of Aislinn, since he hadn't seen her do anything that could remotely be considered frightening, but since neither of the two seemed to be in any danger, he shrugged it off. Whatever was going on between those two, they could work it out on their own, and he had more pressing matters on his mind.
Foremost at the moment was getting Uluki healed and back on her feet.
He missed her. The world seemed more confusing without her ideas, her reassurance. Even when they were in different places and doing different things, it helped to know she was around, that he'd be with her again, that they would eventually be able to talk things over. He hated the uncertainty. More than anything, he was terrified she would die. He couldn't bear that.
Rollick accepted Dynadin's help out of the wagon. "Thank you, my friend. I am grateful for your assistance and generosity to strangers in need." There was nothing more he could think of to say.
Zee picked up Uluki again and the family stood at the door, waiting for someone to answer the bell. Rollick hoped it would be in time to save Uluki...

Angel nodded. He had seen stranger things and stranger people before, so a person who could turn into a horse was nothing new to him.
When the wagon stopped, Angel overheard where they were by the peddlar: Sigorax Blacksmith & Infirmary, Rest, Relax, and Repairs. That sounded promising. Angel slipped on his coat and accepted the help from the old man out of the wagon.
"Thank you very much for your assistance," Angel said to him, a tired smile lighting up his face. "I'll...try not to speak out of turn in the future." Without another word, he went up to the door with the others. His arm still hurt, but that didn't concern him now. He only hoped that they weren't too late in getting Uluki here.

Dynadin Rolthor
The peddler looked the lad up and down as he stammered under the threat of Dynadin's staff. He took in his words which only served to increase the old man's scepticism... "With the others? Yes of course, that must've been we weren't being attacked or riding too quickly for anyone to climb aboard without my notice. The lad thinks me an idiot!" His thoughts came quickly as his weariness of the whole situation caught up to him.
The boy offered money to Dynadin as he spoke nervously; Dynadin glanced at it for a second, tightened his grip on the staff and moved it another inch closer to the boy before saying, "Don't be so stupid boy, you'll need that money to get through a few days in this place . . . Now, as to whether I should let you be on your own way. You say you came with them"-here he nodded toward the family and Angel, who were making their way into the infirmary-"and yet I do not remember you boarding my wagon and I hope you weren't stupid enough to try it in front of the City Guard." As he spoke, Dynadin noticed more and more people walking by as the city woke to the new day. He needed to finish with these people as quickly as possible, and standing their with his staff at the head of a young lad would not go unnoticed for too long.
"Speak quickly and truthfully!"

Cody
Cody took a step back, it was a smooth motion denying the fear the rest of his body showed so well. "I did. Right before you turned the last corner." What was this guy's problem? He'd let the other's into the cart without a problem, what did it matter if Cody was on there also? He hadn't ate anything of his, or broke anything. The man hadn't changed his plans at all for Cody's joining. Cody imagined if anyone deserved an apology it was the horse who had to pull them all.
Dynadin hadn't really met him the way the others had and he had sort of stayed farther away...but he was sure Dynadin had seen him some of the time...if not he was going to sound really crazy now. "I'm... a horse. I'm the black paint horse that was running away with them. I just wanted to stay with my friends..." Fear melted just a tad bit long enough for the smallest form of deiance. "You let them in the wagon! I wasn't in there very long..." the voice had gone weaker again, any version of confidence gone.

Dynadin Rolthor
"What in the name of....?" thought Dynadin, now unsure as to what he was getting into exactly. He thought he had left such things behind me a long time ago when he resolved to deal only with humans; at least with the City Guard you knew what was what, even if you were likely to be threatened on a regular basis. His stomach moaned quietly as his grip on his staff loosened. There was certainly little about the boy that alarmed him, apart, obviously, from his rather disconcerting ability to transform from horse into human and, Dynadin assumed, vice versa.
The old man finally lowered his staff and stood it at his side so that the top end once more stood a couple inches above the peddler. He eyed the boy up and down once more with suspicion laden in his eyes ... Cody he said his name was. Dynadin then spoke quietly so as to not let his voice carry to anyone but the boy and Aislinn, who stood nearby patiently, "You are a shifter then. Why have you come to Marn? It is not exactly known for an open-armed welcome to those inherently magical after all." Here there was a pause before Dynadin raised an eyebrow at Cody and finished with, "You have taken passage in my wagon without my knowledge of it, Cody, and so I do believe you owe me at least an explanation as to why you are here. Especially if we cross paths once more . . ." Dynadin Rolthor was not a superstitious man, but he did however know trouble when he saw it and unfortunately, trouble always seemed to find a way to him.

Cody
Cody exhaled a breathn he hadn't realized he'd been with holding when the staff finally was lowered. Apparently he wasn't going to get hit, still he kept a wary eye on the guy, and his hand that held the staff.
"I just followed the group I was with. They came here, so I followed them." It was a simple enough answer to him. Horse's would do it all the time, better to be with a group than by yourself. If your not sure what to do, and find someone who does have a set goal in mind, might as well follow them. It seemed to be something that should work well for humans also, maybe they didn't worry about it much since most of them had families.
"I didn't think you'd care I was in the wagon. Also, I wasn't in it very long. I could tell we were about to run into the guards and figured it was best to change to this shape before I entered the city. I didn't think a hospital would let in a horse, and I didn't want someone trying to catch a 'lost horse' for a free mount."
Cody paused looking from Dynadin to let his eyes drift to the left, watching nothing in particular, his mind wondering what to do next. He shifted his left leg off the ground a couple of inches, before letting it land again a moment later. His eyes then turned back to Dynadin. "Rollick told me to give you the money. I was giving it to them because I ate some of their food and they didn't have any money. I don't need it, but its nice to have. Rollick said since you helped them, you should get the money. So, I guess its more like I'm paying you with his money instead of mine."
He was alone now, he had wanted to stay with his friends and they had gotten seperated, he looked towards the building they had entered hoping to find them their when he was done with Dynadin. This guy was scary...more like his owner had been. He wanted to be in control, and would hit Cody if he did something Dynadin didn't like. That was Cody's logic anyway.

Dynadin Rolthor
"Very well," Dynadin muttered to Cody as he explained his presence, yet something still didn't sit right with the timing of his little adventure with this colourful group and so a shadow passed across his face as he leant back to let the boy pass and spoke some final words of warning to him, "Choose your friends well, lad. This city does not suffer fools and most who claim friendship do not have your best interests at heart, especially the City guard when it comes to one such as yourself.... And keep the money. You'll need it." His words were finite in their execution and his manner closed to any further interaction; he had sensed that the boy wished to get on, away from any further questions, and so obliged him.
The peddler then turned to Aislinn and, giving her a short bow, offered her a hand into his wagon. "Now my dear, a ride to wherever it is you wish to go. I assume you would rather ride under the privacy of the wagon whilst I ride?"

Cody
If there was one thing Cody did know about it was being careful who you should trust. He really wasn't sure if Uluki and Angel and Rollick were friends but it was the word he had used when speaking with Dynadin that seemed closest to appropriate. They had been nice to him...and Uluki, besides being a female, had never done anything to scare him.
His lips twitched as if to smile but the guy still made him nervous. He put up his small pouch wondering what to do with it now. Not that he had any issues with keeping the money, it meant he wouldn't have to ask for more in the near future, but he imagined he should offer it to Rollick or Uluki again before he made any decisions. "Ok, thanks. I'll be careful, really."
Of course a nice cold drink of water, or anything sounded really good. He considered the streets for a while wondering if he should go check on Uluki or give her some time alone with Rollick...if she was alright. They had said she'd be alright and they had gotten her to the hospital. Cody sighed, in truth he wasn't a complete idiot on human behavior. They would want bonding time probably, and that was an acitivy that two married humans wanted to do alone at points.
Cody would catch up with them later perhaps...first he would explore the city and do his best not to get into any trouble. What would he do to get in trouble anyway? Too much of a coward to cause any real trouble...

Aislinn had been looking over Dynadin's shoulder, observing his 'cargo' leave and listening to his exchange with this new lad. She was not in any hurry to leave as she did not have any fixed place to go. When the pedlar turned to her and offered her his hand into his wagon she politely declined.
"First I need to sell this horse." She explained and begged his forgiveness while she went about that particular business. As it happened, there was a little Blacksmith's not too far down the road and she thought she would try her chances. A short, stout man in his middle age and working the bellows looked at her with curiosity as she entered with her horse in tow.
"Excuse me sir, I don't suppose you would be interested in buying a horse?"
When she returned to the wagon, horseless but a little bit richer she did not take Dynadin's offer of the hand and the back of the wagon but instead jumped up beside him in the driver's seat.
"So, I guess we should find somewhere to stay then?" She said cheerily. "How much to I owe you for passage into Marn?" She doubted whether she would see Uluki or the others again, even Angel had disappeared, and she was not ever going to ask them to pay their own way. She had offered and Aislinn had a kind if foolish heart, she would never go back on her word.
