So I stumbled upon this music player online...

AND ITS FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!

I thought it might be a cool add for Thar. I have been looking for a decent music player for my boards for ages and this one fits the bill perfectly. I just thought I would share my good fortune. Just click the create a playlist option and you can set up a free account. It also generates the coding for your site. Pretty cool eh?

So, what music are you guys into? Give me some tracks to check out. :D

Cool!

Music is a huge part of my life (mostly because I can't write without listening to it) and I'm always looking for new stuff to check out. So I'll be curious to find out what everyone else likes.

Since I don't have the faintest idea what your tastes might be, I decided to let Fate do the choosing, and hit the random select button on my "Favorites" playlist (a list which is, I might add, larger than some people's entire music collections). These are the first ten songs I came up with. If you hate the first one, try a couple of the others. Then, having heard a fair sample, you can join everyone else in mocking me.
  • 1. "Oceano" -- Josh Groban
    2. "Widow's Walk" -- Suzanne Vega
    3. "Spark" -- Tori Amos
    4. "Letting The Cables Sleep" -- Bush
    5. "A Strange Kind Of Love" -- Peter Murphy
    6. "Snow" -- JJ72
    7. "Pale Shelter" -- Tears For Fears
    8. "Roman" -- The Church
    9. "With A Hip" -- Echo And The Bunnymen
    10. "I Want You" -- Savage Garden
If your tastes run more toward rap, or speed metal, or country, I apologize in advance...

Hehe, I have heard of most of those people and songs. As you can see from the link I posted, my tastes are pretty varied. I tend to listen to classical or easy listening when I write though. I am the same, I have a HUGE music collection and its a massive part of my life. I can't function without it sometimes. :|

I really want a song by a Immediate Music, well two actually. One is called 'Mercutio' and the other is 'Lacrimosa'. They have been used for the Avatar trailers as well as Spiderman, Van Helsing, loads really. Also a guy called David Usher I think, did a song called Black Black Heart, which I am desperate to have added to my collection. If anyone has any of these songs could they please please please give them to me?! :p

Thanks Julen, I will definitely check out those tracks again though. :D

I have some classical on there, lacrymosa, and some Bach, I thought I'd put O Fortuna on... hm. But yeah, I have most of the classical stuff. Simon is a big classical music fan. :D

Well I've been considering learning flash enough to make the banner on the first page play music and do some animations. This player's definitely an option, I was really surprised to find that the player's search engine was able to find some of the more esoteric stuff I listen to. Most places just don't have it, and if it has my stuff it's impressive enough.

Thing is for it to be effective it has to be in its own static frame so it doesn't reload every time people change the forum they're viewing, and also I don't want to force it to load on everyone who views the site... But that's not too hard to work around.

There is an option so it does not automatically play. Also, I know people who have used the url so it automatically launches another window. It has that option anyways, launch standalone player, which is awesome.

I was very surprised it found some of the ancient music i wanted. The only thing I haven't been able to find is Mercutio and Lacrymosa by Immediate music. :(

The flash stuff sounds cool, what music were you planning on having be on the opening page? Will that load automatically to?

I keep asking my members if any coding or features messes with their comps, as at the end of the day its an RP board right? But if I find a nice feature that doesn't take forever to load I install it. :D I know I listen to music when I RP, and sometimes so many tabs are open itunes is just annoying.

emm, who's simon?

i use firefox and you're site is ok, the whole fade thing in IE drove me mad so meh

It would have driven me mad if I was in IE too. Too many people didn't like it, so yeah, public demand and all that. It was more testing HTML. FF kicks IE's ass anyways.

Ah the fade thing. Had that on the old ezboard but totally forgot about it since I don't use ie.

I have a few different tunes that would work with the banner. Things that fit the atmosphere here. It would be easy to change up, I suspect, after figuring out how to use flash in the first place. Which probably isn't hard.

If I put the player on, I'd put it somewhere as a button to open it cause even if it doesn't play, I don't want to make it load for everyone. Bandwidth, etc. A button to a popup is easy enough.

I ripped this song out of a video game and I absolutely love it:

It's a freaking space rangers game, of all things. The composer is some russian guy and he's my latest favorite.

Ha, awesome. I do love me some Bjork.

Also, the Requiem for a Dream song has been used in so many inappropriate music queues. That one specifically was used for a Lord of the Rings trailer. I remember because I was sitting there in my movie seat, and suddenly that started playing and I was totally having flashbacks of Requiem when I was supposed to be focusing on orcs instead.

So so wrong.

Heh, blame the other half for both versions of Requiem, I love it, but not that much. :p It weird people usually love or hate Bjork, I have some songs I love and some I hate, I do like her overall style though.

Frug, dude, that peace of music rocks. *so wants to add it to her playlist* :(
