I like my middle name okay.

Other than that it's after someone dead. But I try to forget that.

My middle name is Johnson. And my sister's middle name is Johnson. I remember how shocked I was when I finally discovered that:

A) Most people don't have the same middle name as their siblings.

B) Most girls actually have pretty female middle names.

I was so embarrassed that, for awhile, I told people I didn't have a middle name.

Also, if I'd been born a boy, my name would have been Ishmael. After the narrator of "Moby Dick". Thank god I was a girl, and just ended up being Kathryn, after the lead female in "Taming of the Shrew."

Why is your middle name Johnson, Julen? What an odd middle name. Sounds more like a last name.

Actually, you're quite right. Johnson is my mother's maiden name. She got married back before doing the hyphenated last name thing was really acceptable, but she didn't want to let her maiden name die out, either. So she gave it to all her children as their middle name.

You white people are so weird. Hispanics have been doing the hyphenated names forever. It's the woman's choice (and her dad's) if she wants to lose her last name completely.

Johnson is actually kinda cool. Call me Johnson.

I am not going to curse my own children with strange and embarrassing middle names. They/you may think the first names I have chosen are a curse though.

Lyra (after the protagonist in His Dark Materials), or Kira (after the gelfling in the Dark Crystal....what, I loved that film as a child! )

For a boy Calico/aka/Simon, wants something boring like Daniel...
