Another question is: Do you know animals don't name themselves?
I seem to remember reading a Far Side cartoon that had the caption "Names dogs give themselves." On the collars were your typical dog names given them by humans(Fido, Rex, etc.). The dogs, talking amongst themselves, were using "Killer", "Destroyer of Mailmen", and other odd names like that.
Perhaps somewhere along the way, the fairy came upon a flower it liked, and named itself after the flower....

You’re gonna find out you’re already dead, and I was the world coming down on your head.

I was going to ask that. I'd imagine most animal names to be similar to killer, slaughterer, others already listed here. And for dogs, of course, woof, bark, whine and whimper. And yelp.Kamar Deythal wrote:Another question is: Do you know animals don't name themselves?
Seriously though, (as seriously as we CAN on a fantasy RP forum), there's a few ways that can be played. It's down to whether you want to give him a name.
By the way, I didn't really introduce myself that well, and I apologise. Insomnia is the greatest cause of my posting apathy, and when I look back on posts created on nil sleep, it does make me cringe.
I'm Xyon, mainly because I don't want to give my real name out online. It's also my character's name. I'm an RL friend of Shadow and it's he who recommended this site to me.
If your plots ever slow down to the point where you're looking for somewhere else to post, sling a PM into my box and I should be able to hook you up.
Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted anywhere yet. I haven't abandoned the site, so please don't flay me alive or anything. I am going to make two characters, the fairy and the crazy human kid. I'll put out a profile for the kid soon. I'm not a great writer, so that's a big reason why I'm delaying posting like I am. My apologies.
My second characters name is Levi, so I guess my new username will be Levi/Cerulean or something. I promise I'll post something soon. What would be the best way for me to start a RP?

Why do people always think we're going to flog them? I'll have you know that I charge money for that particular service. But I might let you call me "Mistress" for free.
If you're going to play two characters, it's probably a good idea to have two accounts, one in the name of each character, rather than combining both characters into a single user name. Lot's of people do that. For instance, Jessica has three characters -- Jenica, Lanya, and Geldenwing -- each with their own account. It's less confusing and allows each character to have their own individual avatar.
As for starting an RP, there are a few ways. Probably the best way is to read some of the current storylines and see if there's one that you particularly like, or where your character would fit in nicely. Then talk to the players about joining. Most people will bend over backwards to get you in. (Although, for the record, I charge for that, too.) Another option is to check out the profiles of characters who haven't joined a story yet, and if any of them sound appealing, get in touch with their player and set something up.
When I first joined, I wanted a chance to get a feel for the world and my character (Julen), so I just started writing a thread with him, making it clear that anyone was welcome to jump in if they chose to. The risk here is that no one will, but since I'm primarily a writer rather than an RP'er, I was prepared to go on by myself for awhile. Fortunately, I got lucky, and someone joined my thread right away, and then I actively drafted another new character later on.
Frug says this all the time, and I want to repeat it. You've got to be proactive. Don't worry about being a good writer (all we ask for is decent spelling and punctuation). Just decide what you want for your character, and talk with people about ways to make it happen. If you work hard, one day your character (like mine) can be insulted by someone he can't talk back to, much less hit, while his employer is off getting his "sword" fondled.
Which reminds me. I need to go post...

Don't worry about your writing. I don't think there's a person on this board who can say that they believe their writing didn't improve (in general) over time. You might not start out perfect, but just make yourself clear, make sure your point gets across, and nag others to critique for you.
Kamar, Fruggles, Lucian and Amy can all attest to this: I ask if almost every single post of mine is ok. I'm horribly spastic about my posts, and I'm always convinced they were terrible in some way. I nag and prod and pry. Amy's actually great with editing, so you might want to see if she'd be willing to spot your posts for a while.

Haha. Thanks for the testament, Jen. I actually kind of enjoy it, in a sad way. Actually, I'm editing a large portion of my English class's research papers before they get turned in, basically because everyone knows I'm a bit of a Nazi...
But Jen's right. Aside from blatant errors, don't worry too much, as long as your writing's clear. And Jen's also right that she's constantly freaking out about the quality of her posts...and just look at one! They're amazing!
I guess that's all to say don't be too concerned, but there is always room for improvement, and if you're willing to do your best, then nobody's gonna knock you for not being flawless.

You need to make a different account for each character. I hate to enforce this rule but I am. Setus is with Cerulean already and you're free to use the same email.Setus wrote:I guess my new username will be Levi/Cerulean or something
Are you sure you want a second character before you've started posting with one?
The world is an arena, not a stage. RP is a stage, not an arena.

So I am RPing with a dominatrix. Why did this not come as a surprise?Falcon Bertille wrote:Why do people always think we're going to flog them? I'll have you know that I charge money for that particular service. But I might let you call me "Mistress" for free.![]()

My faith protects me, my kevlar helps.
Not to worry. Here in Thar Shaddin, gender isn't always readily apparent. For the first month I was here, I always assumed Blood Ravenous was a guy.Setus wrote:I didn't know the person playing as Julen was female. I thought the signature was a picture of you... Sorry, Falcon/Julen/etc.! I can't imagine many guys writing about homosexuality, so I guess it makes sense.
My avatar is actually a picture of how I envision Julen looking.
As it happens, I've known a number of guys who wrote about homosexuality. Although, admittedly, only one of them was not gay.
And as for you, Railtus -- kiss my shiny latex hip boots and tell me that you like it!

Yeah I don't think you'll meet alot of women with "Blood Ravenous" as their nameJulen wrote:For the first month I was here, I always assumed Blood Ravenous was a guy.
And you're pretty feminine for being a guy... though that makes sense for you. Lol... fairyness...Cerulean wrote:Don't feel too bad about assuming Blood Ravenous is a guy. I know her in person, and sometimes I can't tell what gender she is (she's very masculine for being a girl).
