Character Name: Myrriah Thornsinger
Race: Human with faint traces of Elf and Fae in her bloodlines
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Occupation: Bard/Entertainer
Eyes: Myrriah's eyes are large and almond shaped, and usually have a merry twinkle hidden in them somewhere. Her left eye is a lovely but typical blue. Her right eye, on the other hand is a weird shade of greenish yellow, a color you might expect unusual moss or phosphorescent fungus to be, and it has a golden fleck in it off to the side that appears nearly metallic in the right slant of light.
Hair: Her hair is long, down to her hips, and mostly straight with an errant waviness that comes and goes. It's a reddish brown - approximately the color of a cinnamon stick - with honey blond streaks from being in the sun.
Height: 5 foot 5 inches
Weight:110 pounds
Build: Slender, wiry, and tough. A bit lanky in the limbs, but that's mostly just her age. A slightly elfin facial structure with high cheekbones.
Appearance: Pale skin spattered with freckles, cupid bow lips that curve easily into a smile, it is easy for Myrriah to appear charming. She's pretty in a sweet and innocent way that can inspire those around her to be protective. She has nothing sinister about her, but sometimes, when she's got that faraway look in her eyes, something about her appears strange and exotic, mysterious even. It's always fleeting, though, and those who see it are never really sure they saw anything at all.
Personality: Myrriah has a merry soul that she has learned to swath and dim with layers of protective alertness. This makes her thoughtful and wary, but if comfortable enough she opens up, smiles often and laughs easily. Every now and then, though, she will get that 'faraway' look (mentioned above) and she is often moody after one of those spells. She's a bit of a roamer, and will get antsy in a closed room - she will either start to pace or start playing music (the only thing that distracts her from her discomforts).
Abilities: Physically she is coordinated, agile and quick on her feet, and her body has a lot of endurance/toughness/constitution - in other words, it can take a lot of abuse, and rarely gets sick. Mentally she's got a mind like a steel trap, though selective - if she wants to remember something, she will remember it perfectly (If she doesn't want to or doesn't care, then her mind is usually like a sieve). She can survive alright if she has to and can forage, fish and trap, though not well and she can't hunt or track. She's got an incredible talent for music that is largely untapped - though she plays well and entertains well, she has yet to truly dazzle (she does have the potential to do so). It also bleeds into the magical realm, though she doesn't know that yet - currently it only manifests itself by heightening her abilities and making her music particularly captivating for her audiences. No one yet has detected this whiff of magic about her. She also has the ability to read and write (courtesy of her father), but math is mostly beyond her.
Weaknesses: She's got weak-average female strength - a heavy box will tire her quickly. She has no fighting skills, really - she has learned to dodge, run and hide instead. She's a little bit gullible, being the innocent daydreamer that she is. If she is hurt or angered enough, she will hold a grudge until hell freezes over. She doesn't like to keep iron anywhere near herself - it makes her uncomfortable and if in contact with her skin long enough will leave a rash. She's got enough curiosity to get herself in trouble periodically, usually when she knows better but just doesn't think it through. She loves her musical instruments dearly and develops relationships with them as if they were people. Why is this a weakness? Because she will do stupid things for them, like going into a burning building to rescue them. Plus other people think it's weird.
Equipment: A reed flute, a lute, the clothes on her back (creme poet shirt, laced up brown leather vest, brown leggings, soft leather mid-calf boots - all rather ragged and in some state of dirtiness), a pouch with a money in it, a small knife, flint and steel (the only iron she tolerates on her person). She has a simple silver locket with pictures of her mother and her father that she wears around her neck. She has a few other clothes and odds and ends that she keeps in the small house that her and her father live in Marn, on the edge of the residential distract, close to City Hall, the Guard HQ, the Temple, and the school.
History: Myrriah is the daughter of a scribe and a dreamrunner. She is mostly human, but somewhere in her mother's bloodline some errant Elf and Fae (creatures something like elves, but more strange) ancestors lurk. Her father Clavius Wheeler, the scribe, did his best to make sure that she was well-fed, clothed, housed, and educated to his best abilities. He also tried to keep Myrriah away from her mother Silonwye, the dreamrunner. Dreamrunning is the practice of crossing over to the astral plane physically or through visions/dreams to recover items or information for a client. It is dangerous business especially for someone who is mostly human, and if it is done long enough or without enough care, it will result in the madness of the dreamrunner. Even in Myrriah's earliest memories, her mother was already crazy. Her father neither wanted Myrriah to witness her mother's deterioration, nor have her be inspired to become a dreamrunner herself, so he kept contact between the two to a bare minimum. Even so, he could not keep her mother from influencing her. Silonwye always called Myrriah 'my thornsinger', a name that only meant something between the too of them, and to this day Myrriah has occasional wistful-dreamy moods that leave her feeling somewhat disconnected from reality, much like her mother did. After a while, Myrriah became discontented with the enforced separation between her and her mother, and took Thornsinger as her surname, much to the anger of her father. Though the act was done with rebelliousness, there is symbolism and power in it that even Myrriah does not yet know or understand.
Despite the sad oddness of her family situation, Myrriah had a good childhood and managed to escape much hardship. They were not a wealthy family, but they got by and stayed warm and fed for most of her life. That is, until her mother died. Though her father seemed somewhat distant from her mother, he was still devastated by her death and he lost the will to work very hard, instead turning to drink in an attempt to escape his sorrows. His employment began to fluctuate, and with all the money spent on liquor, life became rather hard. Myrriah, who had always loved music and had a natural gift for it, began to entertain for a living and became the sole provider for her and her father. She tries to ignore the worsening condition of her father, but sometimes she cries herself to sleep. She does her best to take care of him, but he is drinking himself to death.
