Returning home from watch

Tarin
Tarin never had much respect for the law, but this woman was something else. He looked over at the young girl, she looked about fifteen maybe sixteen years old, and was obviously a bit naive about the way things worked in this city. He stood as ordered but instead of subjugating himself to further abuses by the guardswoman he moved over to the crying child.
"Come on, kiddo, no harm done, what's your name?" He hoped some conversation would keep her from crying. He was mainly trying to stall to find a way out of this, he wasn't leaving with the guard, but he was in no shape to run. He gently grasped the girl's chin between his thumb and forefinger so he could lift her head and see into her eyes.
They were a deep and beautiful green that reminded him too much of Marissa. As the memories of the girl he had loved came flooding back Tarin started feeling angry. This two-bit officer of the law was going to leave this girl alone, Tarin would see to that. A plan was formulating in his head, but he needed to know that the girl would be ok, and hopefully, that she trusted him.

Aeryn threw her hands up in frustration when the girl started crying, and once again seriously considered walking away. It wasn't as though she was paid more to deal with problems off her watch, and these two were definately proving to be more trouble then they were watch.
"Why do you care what her name is?" the guardswoman asked. "You're going to be spending a good while in a jail cell, and if you're harboring some fantasy that she'll bed you for saving her, I wouldn't get my hopes up. Some of these city girls are worse than whores. She's not going to wait for you. Stop wasting my time and come on."
Aeryn was in no mood for dallying. She had a warm bed waiting for her at home, but from the looks of it, she was going to be spending all night dragging prisoners about the city. Deciding that the young man needed some motivation, she slapped him with the flat of her blade, not hard enough to injure him, but with enough force to leaved a bruise and get his attention.

Asiona met the man's grey eyes with her own red and puffy ones, and tried at a smile. She was comforted by his touch because it was reminiscent of how her father directed her attention to himself. Before she could answer him, the guardswoman interjected. With every word coming out of her mouth Asiona felt angrier and angrier. "ASIONA!" she shouted over the woman's words, feeling rude but she didn't care. The manners her parents had taught her were being wiped away by enmity.
When the man who was being so nice got whacked with the sword that was the last straw. She didn't want to shout in [Tarin]'s face so she brushed away his hand and stood up, tears still running down her cheeks. She wiped them off and glared at the woman. "Shut up you vulgar...bitch! You don't know anything about me! And you won't be arresting him. First you have to go through me!" she shouted, but it was more like a squeal. Her face was turning red and she had her hands squeezing the cloth of her dress in balled fists. She was shaking, either from the chilly air or fury.
I'll kill her was thought in her mind in a self-assured tone. It scared her, but she kept her glare on [Aeryn] and ignored it.

Tarin
Asiona was crazier than even Tarin, it seemed. He stood behind her, head swimming from the crack he just took from the sword.
"Don't listen to Asiona, Guardswoman. She's obviously just flustered from the attack. You won't be sending that sword through anyone tonight." He got into this to help the girl and it looked like he was getting out of it that way, unfortunately it involved getting arrested.
Before he let himself get taken away he took his pack off and handed it to Asiona. He whispered quickly to Asiona "Leave this outside wherever the guard takes me, don't look inside, whatever you do." He couldn't believe he was trusting a stranger with Marissa, but it was his best shot.
He turned to the guard face set to be as serious as possible. "OK, take me away."

Aeryn's knuckles turned white as her grip tightened on her sword, gritting her teeth in anger. "You will address a guard with respect, girl, or you may lose you tongue." It took all her self-control not to slap the teenager, but she managed, if only barely.
Fortunately, the young man's sudden cooperation distracted her. "That's better," she said gruffly. "Hand me your pistol, handle first. I don't want you doing anything rash. After I take it, you're going to walk down the street, keeping well in the light with your hands where I can see them. You might want to move sharp; if you pass out from bloodloss, I'll have to lug you to the jail myself, and I will not be a happy woman when you wake up."
Raising her sword once more so it was level to his chest, Aeryn held out her other hand, palm up, ready to recieve the firearm.

Asiona's anger was out of control. It was like something was invading her head and burrowing itself in her chest, overwhelming her. She was starting to feel a bit tired and she found herself breathing heavily. Holding his backpack she watched the man giving himself up, despite the fact that she could protect him. I really could! she thought. Another thought answered, mocking her with No you couldn't. But I could... Shut up!...I must be going crazy to be yelling at myself ... No you aren't, it's just me ... Who? ... I'm behind the guardswoman; give the order, and I'll do it ... Do what? ... Just tell me when... As this internal dialogue was going on the guardswoman was telling [Tarin] what to do.
Asiona was finally figuring out what the feelings and the thoughts-that-weren't-her-own were; it was Lateus. As Lateus' thoughts faded from her mind she looked behind the guardswoman, but couldn't see anything. Maybe she was crazy.
"Alright, do it," she said aloud, but quietly. She wasn't sure what she was agreeing to, but it needed to be done.
Like a veil falling away from him, Lateus appeared out of nowhere. He stood right up close behind the so far unnamed guardswoman, anger matching Asiona's burning in his orange eyes. His clothes were ragged and near to filthy and he had the hair of a madman, as if it's amber strands had never seen a brush.
With supernatural speed he grabbed at the woman's lower arms and gripped hard enough to bruise. The arm that had her sword was yanked back so that the sword hit the wall, hopefully hard enough to disarm her. The other was yanked behind her back. He beared his teeth, which were wickedly pointed, in preparation for his first living meal of blood. His mouth was too near her throat for comfort.

Tarin
Two muggings in one day, Tarin hated being a hero. This wild looking man, though, was different from the other ruffians. He was either quieter and sneakier than anyone Tarin had met before, or he appeared out of nowhere. Tarin was pissed, he was bleeding, and he was under arrest, this wasn't going to be his night. He pulled he gun cocked it pulled the trigger to give an empty click and cocked it again, this time if he pulled the trigger someone would be shot. He leveled it at the madman's head which was reaching for the guard's throat.
"The first time I give myself up peacefully and some FUCKING CRAZY has to ruin it for me. Back away from her and let me go to jail IN PEACE."
Tarin didn't know how much longer he would be able to fight under his own power, his wound was too painful. When I get out of this, he thought, I am never helping anyone ever again.

It had been a long time since Aeryn had been completely helpless. However, as she heard her sword clatter against the ground and felt her arm and chest muscles strain, she knew that was what she was. Helpless. She could feel hot breath against her throat and braced herself for the searing pain of ripping flesh. She could hear the shouts young man she was supposed to be arresting, but she paid them no mind. Although she could not see who or what was holding her, it was obviously stronger than a normal human, and she didn’t think a pistol would frighten it.
Suddenly, pain tore through her, but it was not the agony she had been expecting. It felt as though her guts were twisting and shifting about, sending her into convulsions. Despite the grip on her arms, her knees buckled and she fell, twitching and shaking. The weight of her body on her arms when they were in such an awkward position caused both her shoulders to pop out of their sockets. However, this new pain was nothing compared to the agony that wracked her form.
A brief look of realization flashed across the grimace her face had been contorted into, and Aeryn looked up. The sun had disappeared below the horizon, and a full moon had taken its place in the sky. Glancing around wildly, her gaze finally fell on the others. “Run,” she cried out, her voice strained and urgent. “Run as fast as you can, or I’ll kill you. I can’t control it. I’ll kill you, I’ll…” her words became snarls and growls as fur sprouted from her face, and her short hair turned shaggy and grey. Her face bulged outward into a muzzle and her eyes turned from silver to a golden-brown. There was a sharp tearing sound as her shoulders broadened, ripping her shirt. Muscles bulged under her fur, which had spread to cover her whole body. A yelp erupted from her throat as her knees turned around with a grinding crunch. Her boots split as her feet turned into clawed paws, and her pants fell away in tatters as the muscles in her legs swelled. A tail shot from the base of her spine as she grew, gaining almost a foot in height.
Suddenly, the transformation was complete, and whimpers of pain fading into harsh, fast breaths. Golden eyes glanced about, and suddenly the being holding her was no longer so threatening. Throwing her wolven head back, she howled defiantly, then with a snarl, rolled her shoulders forward, popping them back into their sockets and wrenching out of the creatures grip all in one movement.

Lateus looked at the man with a puzzled expression. He was distracting him from taking a chunk out of his enemy's neck by yelling. And he was holding something up at him and Asiona's thoughts weren't telling him what it was. The only thing he could think to do was stare at it, wondering if it was going to click again or not. Suddenly his prey yanked forward hard enough to pop her arms out of the sockets. He wasn't letting go anytime soon, so he just watched as she convulsed below him. He looked at Asiona with a pleading expression and said, "Do you humans usually do this...?" his voice deep with a strange accent.
"Um, no," Asiona replied, staring with wide eyes at the guardswoman.
“Run,” she cried out, her voice strained and urgent. “Run as fast as you can, or I’ll kill you. I can’t control it. I’ll kill you, I’ll…”
The sick realization hit her like a fist to the stomach as growls and snarling came from the person who was so serious and uptight before. This wasn't a ploy; that was for sure. She glanced up at the sky which had seemingly turned to night without her noticing. The moon shone brightly into the alleyway. "OH MY GOD, IT'S A WEREWOLF!" she screamed, pointing at what used to be only a guard.
The woman's body grew and distorted, fur erupting where there normally wasn't any. Asiona's amazement at seeing this spectacular occurrence didn't let her think about the danger she would soon be in. As an aside to Asiona the demon asked, "I thought you said humans couldn't change their form!"
"We can't, she isn't human anymore," the girl replied with awe.
It only took a moment for the transformation, with a howl, to be complete. The werewolf easily shook off Lateus' grip and, startled, Lateus stepped back from the huge form. The dread in her stomach that had been blanked out by fascination returned and became true, raw fear. "Werewolves can't control themselves, Lateus! We've gotta get out of here!"
Lateus was in front of her in a second, bracing her back against the wall. "Remember that picture book you stole from school to let me see? It said Spot runs, and she looks kind of like Spot."
"Um, See Spot Run?! Oh god Lateus, where do you get your logic?... Ugh, and you smell. Remind me to get you a bath after we die."
"Whatever, girl." Lateus glanced at the man. "Yo, boy. Might want to run. I can smell your blood." Don't steal my thoughts Asiona thought with a mental eye roll.

Tarin
WEREWOLF? And she was going to arrest him. Tarin's head was spinning as he watched the grotesque transformation, and then the sweet young girl with the emerald eyes started speaking with freak-man, his night was getting better and better.
Tarin put his gun back into his belt and backed into the wall with a heavy thud. He slowly sank to the ground placing his pack in front of him. Tarin was too weak to run and was sick of secrets. Guard lady was a werewolf (and she thought he was a criminal?), Asiona apparently consorted with dirty insane hobos and Tarin... well it was time for his secret to be revealed.
He felt the connection that he had with Marissa's skeleton come to the forefront of his mind. It wasn't so much like working a puppet as requesting the bones act a certain way. His bag shifted as the blackened skeleton rose from its home. It stepped out with a slight hollow thunk as the bones hit the pavement, an eerie reflection coming off the teeth making them look much longer than they actually were.
"Everyone, meet Marissa." Tarin gasped out cooly, the energy it took to control the dead body weakening him further.
The skeleton started stalking toward the growling wolf-woman ready to grapple with it.
"I dunno where you come from Late-Us," Tarin said "But if you know Asiona you probably ain't to bad."

The werewolf's blunted muzzle swung about as she sniffed the air, taking in her situation. Her gold eyes settled on [Lateus] for a moment as her primitive mind considered attacking. Although he looked human, and humans were no threat to her, she vaguely remember him causing her pain. She didn't like pain.
However, she was soon distracted by an odd sound. Looking over, she growled, confused by the skeleton and therefore feeling threatened. The thing standing in front of her looked like what was left of her prey, except it was upright and moving about. Her prey never moved about when she was done with it.
Glancing past the moving skeleton, she saw Tarin, weak and bleeding. The scent of his blood excited her, awakening primal urges to kill. Looking back at the skeleton between her and what was now her prey, she snarled again, then pounced at the thing.

Asiona tried to peer around Lateus' form, but the way he was positioned made it hard. His arms and back trapped her from moving out from behind him still, and it wasn't comfortable. He was trying his best to protect her, though she wanted to see what was happening in case she could use a spell. When was another chance to use a spell in combat—against a werewolf!—going to surface?
No one came through this alleyway and the houses to either side was still lightless and empty-looking. She wondered if anyone could hear them if they screamed.
When she heard a growl she cast a worried glance at [Tarin] only to notice a skeleton standing up! She gawked for a moment then screamed in horror, not processing, "Everyone, meet Marissa." Her scream turned shriller as the werewolf lunged at the skeleton. She scrunched her eyes closed, unable to believe this nightmarish situation. Lateus remained still and thoughtless, watching the action as it unfolded. No plans for escape raced through his mind, but Asiona was a different story. We need to run! she thought as hard as she could at his form in front of her, but he didn't seem to react. She tried pushing at his back but he didn't move an inch. "Lateus!" she shrieked, concerned with what would happen to Tarin when the werewolf mowed down the pile of bones. After all, what else could happen? Whatever was holding 'Marissa' together couldn't hold up against the strength of a werewolf! That meant that Tarin was next, and if she could get some room to cast a spell she could distract it to save him!

Tarin
Tarin's eyes slowly started to droop closed, the effort it took to animate the skeleton taxing his currently exanguinating body. His consciousness felt like it was flowing back and forth between his body and the skeleton. Tarin was confused at any point as to which was him and which was magically animated.
The werewolf lunged at the skeleton and sank its teeth firmly into its shoulder. It didn't react, already dead it could feel no pain. Instead the other arm wheeled around and drove its elbow violently into the top of the werewolf's head.
Tarin's eyes rolled into the back of his head but his head and he slumped to one side, his entire essence becoming devoted to the skeletal figure.

The werewolf felt her teeth clamp around bone, but there was no reaction. Although the primitive state her mind had been reduced to could not grasp concepts such as necromancy or other magics, she knew that what was going on was not normal. Usually, when she sank her fangs into something that moved, it made some sort of sound and tried to escape. This thing did neither.
Suddenly, there was a sharp pain at the top of her skull. With a yelp, the beast released her hold and scampered back a few paces, growling and shaking her shaggy head. Once the ache faded into a dull throb, she looked at the skeleton, suddenly wary. There was no smell of blood or fear from the thing, even though she had bitten it.
Glancing about, her golden gaze fell on [Lateus] again. The werewolf remembered that he had caused her some sort of pain, but she could hear his heart beat. This one had blood running through him. Growling deep in her throat, she edged away from the skeleton and towards the demon, her muscles coiled and ready to pounce.

Asiona watched in horror as the werewolf crunched down on the bones of the skeleton. She had thought it was her chance to run but not so; the dangerous shapeshifter just turned onto a new enemy: Lateus. Lateus didn't seem perturbed in the slightest and she wondered if he even knew of the danger he was in. She had tried to explain death to him but he hadn't gotten it. So maybe he couldn't die, but he would return to the astral plane if his body perished.
In order to snap him out of whatever stupor he was in, Asiona shouted, "If she jumps on you she'll crush me, Lateus!! Pay attention!" This seemed to get to him, finally, because he moved away from the wall and stood ready a few feet from Asiona. Her superficial protection gone, Asiona felt the raw fear in full power. If she was bitten she might turn into the same kind of monster before her. The girl cowered, wrapping her arms around herself for some sort of comfort. The sword and her necklace were the only things glittering on the ground, and the only things that could possibly help her. Her face-burn stick was at her house; why in the world would she need to bring it to her friend's house? Now she wished she had brought it anyway, despite it's obvious magical properties. The alleyway was big enough that if she went for either of the objects the werewolf could squeeze past Lateus, so she stayed.
