Possessions:
-Commoner clothes
-Three leather satchels and a travelers bag
-Canvas boots
-Fur Cloak
-Pocket watch
-Wooden puzzle box
-Spell scrolls
-Pet cat
Henlan is a cleanly dressed well groomed young man with spiked black hair and piercing blue eyes. He is skinny and freckled and is a regular height for most Marnian humans. He has petite features and small hands, and walks with a sense pride that mostly masks his underlying insecurities. A strangely intelligent cat can be seen peeking out from his backpack at times.
Henlan has a keen understanding of magic, knowing how to:
-Heal wounds to an extent
He knows how to seal cuts and stop bleeding.
-Manipulate fire
He can conjure blasts of flame and although deeply draining, can pull down lightning from a stormy sky.
-Control small objects
He can levitate objects and control their direction and velocity, and knock a full-grown man off his feet.
-Through a complex ceremony, summon a guardian to aid him.
He has only succeeded once, following the instructions of a spell scroll, and in the following minutes of confusion made a blood-pact with the spirit summoned to help him in times of dire need. He assumes their souls will be intertwined for the rest of his life, but he knows little about what he has done, and it scares him. He hopes to discover wisdom on this matter from an accomplished sorcerer, but he knows not where to find one.
Henlan has grown up in his families apothecary, and studied the craft under instruction from his parents. He has a basic knowledge of the ingredients that can be gathered near and within the Ofriyu Mar and has experience brewing many elixirs.
Henlan is gay, and much ridicule had been placed upon him from his peers. He was very socially isolated from his peers when he was young and many still make fun of him behind his back. He has become very cut-off because of this and has no real friends outside of his family.
Henlan suffers from anxiety because of the above mentioned and has more than once lost consciousness during a panic attack. They are usually triggered when he is faced with ridicule or when he embarrasses himself, and can also be triggered when he is attracted to a male, and feels the need to hide his attraction. He never allows himself to express the attraction he feels towards men and tries to never think about it. His uncle, Achan, has sensed these feelings of self loathing radiating off of Henlan more than once, but has never said anything to Henlan.

In the Gothique Apothecary a cramped situation is present within the living quarters. Nanin, Sam, Achan, Mary, Ofriyu, Ella, Raelan and Henlan currently reside there.
Henlan was born to Nina and Edden Gothique, a third-generation, middle-class Marnian family living atop their shop in the downtown district of Marn. His family came to Marn from the high tundras of Northern Eyropa a little over a century ago. His great-grandfather was a master summoner and sorcerer, passing down his rich mastery of the magical arts to his grandfather, who in turn taught them to his father, who has taught them to Henlan, teaching him to heal his friends with the powers of his hands and deter his foes with the powers of his mind, and to take comfort in the fact that an ally was always near if he had the mind to summon one. When the Gothiques arrived in Marn, they bought a space in the downtown district and opened an apothecary and glassware shop. Mariam, Henlan's great-grandmother, knew the craft of alchemy like the back of her hand and Jalo, his great-grandfather, was positive he could market and run their business successfully. A century later, the Gothiques owned a respectable establishment, at that time run by Edden and Nina Gothique. Soon they would come to have a child named Henlan. From the time he was a babe, Henlan had lived in that very shop, always surrounded by the numberless ingredients and tomes that filled the shelves, and as he has grown he has become fond of the intricate art of alchemy. When alive and well, his grandfather would oft praise the spirits of The Ofriyu Mar for allowing the growth of the plants they needed to create the many elixirs and potions they sold in their respectable shop within "Twisted City", as he was always wont to call it. It was a family tradition, Henlan had figured early on, to curse the City Guard and the corrupt Judges for their harsh treatment of magic, for the harsh treatment of their family's heritage. Of course, they only did so in private. To their neighbours and customers, they were the ideal Puradyne family, making well sure that their fellows would often hear a comment about the horrors of magic or the valor of the Battlemages. Their large family made many excursions to the banks of the Ofriyu Mar to gather the boundless plants that grow only there, a dangerous yet necessary activity that supported their life in the city. Edden, Achan and Ofriyu had learnt the art of swordplay to protect themselves in those dangerous wilds, yet there had been oft a time when magic was involved to defend themselves, and whispers had started to gather around the Gothique family and their nature, their Puradyne neighbours grew suspicious. Luckily, no one had ever confronted any member of the family on the matter, and for that, everyone was thankful. As Henlan grew, his older brother was always very close to him. They had always shared a special bond, and loved one another unconditionally. He was a fairly sociable youth. He made many friends and they would come to share many adventures together, rushing through the streets of Marn, chasing eachother down alleys, and play-fighting in the gardens. Those years seemed like they would never end, the innocence and the freedom that came with such little responsibility. Yet soon the cusp of manhood was upon him, and with that those years of innocence and fun slipped away from him, slowly, but surely. Soon he came to realize he was gay, and he felt so alone and so estranged because of it. He had never realized that this was the "unnatural" way, yet in time, all the children of the world find ways to ridicule those around them based upon their differences, and this was no exception for Henlan. Even his brother had come to look at him differently, and he became more and more withdrawn, slowly receding into the apothecary, finding comfort in the fact that through a book he could live another life, and escape his own. During those years of his life, he became a very skilled alchemist and magic wielder, and found that his uncle, Achan, was too interested in learning about the sciences and magic. Henlan and his uncle grew very close. He was a mentor to him, and taught him much about how to get on in the world without having to rely on others. During a very hard time for Henlan, one where he was ridiculed in the streets, being called highly derogatory terms and threatened, Henlan ran to the outskirts of the city in despair. As he huddled in a ball, crying, a stray domestic cat surprised him, meowing with a sense of understanding, he had an immediate connection with the animal, and decided to take it home and care for it. Henlan took this cat home and kept it a secret for a time, until it was discovered and eventually accepted as one of the family. He and Nini, as Henlan had come to call him, have an uncannily tight bond, and rarely ever leave each other's side, even when out of the house. The years passed, and things remained relatively the same. Henlan had never come to accept the fact of who he is, and this made him very socially disinclined. When once he all he wanted was to be surrounded by friends, now he preferred to be alone, save for his uncle and parents, who meant the world to him. Once he had reached his mid-twenties Henlan was wont to explore alone the world outside of the confines of Marn, his mind had been wandering there in the recent years, and he felt that he needed an escape. Yet things would soon change drastically. It happened when the Gothiques were targeted by the Battlemages and the Judges themselves. Rumours had spread, and a rival family, the Gelants, who owned an Alchemy shop across the road from the Gothiques, sought to crush their competition and conspired to have the Gothiques framed for the use of magic. None of the Gothiques could tell you what was said, but one night there was a knock on the door. A battlemage stood tall and fierce in the door frame. "The owners of this establishment, two by name of Edden and Nina Gothique are asked to peacefully surrender for the crime of endangering others with the use of magic." Edden and Nina have been gone for two months now, taken away that night. Their sentencing may have been short if they had obeyed, but Henlan knew his father, and from what Achan had told him, they didn't go down without a fight. All his life Henlan has been told that his magical abilities were never to be shown, never to be mentioned outside of the family, but now his attention has turned to rumours of a Mages Guild, rumours of insurgency within Marn. As long as the use of magic is criminalized by Marn, the Goverment, is Henlan's enemy, and he will not stop until he has found his parents.

Re: Henlan Gothique
I'm ready for someone to come have a look at it!
Re: Henlan Gothique
Hi, Henlan, and welcome to Thar!
I can see you've read at least part of the setting, but I suggest you go through and read it more closely. A lot of the points in your history don't actually make sense for the city of Marn. I'll point out the main concerns, but I really do suggest that you go through and read everything properly and make the appropriate changes to your character.
Firstly, magic is almost entirely illegal in Marn. There is no way that someone could set up a shop that sells magic products, or which contains things like spell scrolls (which don't really exist in this setting) or magic tomes. Those sort of items are not at all allowed in Marn. They would be confiscated if people knew they existed. Alchemy, if you mean it as a magical craft, is magic and would not be allowed.
Regarding your character's sexuality, Marn is a very liberal city when it comes to things not related to magic. That means that there is not a whole lot of homophobia.
I recommend you look at some of our already approved applications. You will notice we require you to list and detail your character's main strengths and weaknesses. Your character does not seem to have many particular weaknesses, at least none that are explicitly stated. If you'd like your character to have a magical ability, I'd suggest choosing just one modest ability, or perhaps two at most. Then add some more weaknesses and strengths, preferably ones that relate to your character's personality or experiences. Maybe some that are a side effect of your character's magic ability (if you choose to have one).

All significant events in your characters life should be explained in the history, and please use paragraphs.
