Sofi Oslun and Anya Crowley (Abernathy)

Post by Sofi and Anya » Wed Dec 04, 2013 10:56 pm

Player name: Matt (Jerial)

Sofi Oslun

Race- Human
Gender- Female
Date of Birth- June 27
Age- 20 (looks young for her age)
Eyes- Light blue with a hint of green
Hair- Reddish brown, fine and wavy
Height- 5 feet 4 inches
Weight- about 120 lb, slim, not many curves but well proportioned

Occupation- Clerk in the Residential District Magistrate's Office, under Civil Obedience

*insert picture here*

Physical Description- Sofi is a petite young lady that typically wears a contented expression, happy if not smiling. Her eyes are not biting or piercing in any manner, but there is a fierceness behind her that speaks of her strong background and will. She keeps her hair lightly put back when she is in public, either by braiding her bangs or tying her locks back with a ribbon (color-coordinated, of course). Her shoulders are petite but properly postured, keeping her breasts out (but we wouldn't want to show them off now, would we?). Within her family home, her attire is much less proper, usually consisting of a simple gown (but of course it's not simple, it's made from a fine fabric! and it's her favorite color!), no corset, and no shoes. Still, she keeps her maidservant (a young lady of sixteen years, very devoted to her, yes indeed) close by in the case any uninvited guests arrive (she must entertain the guests, you know, we certainly couldn't trouble Mummy and Daddy with it).

Possessions:
- Dresses and corsets and shoes and hats and jewelry and lace!
- Birthright of the Oslun family (be grateful you don't have an older brother)
- A cello. She loves to play, and it's an easy way to get even more parental approval (one can never have too much, I suppose- Nasku)(oh dear, you remind me of when I used to play- Mother)
- A set of finely crafted dark-stained hardwood furniture, including an armoire, a four-poster bed, a table and a pair of upholstered chairs
-A china tea set (Sofi loves tea)

Strengths-
Sofi is always straight and proper, always on time and very curt, oh yes indeed.

Very smart about music.

Very adaptable.

Educated enough to be generally knowledgable.

Humanitarian- usually willing to help someone.

Networking and socializing has paid off. Sofi has a solid friend group and dozens of political acquaintances and contacts.

Sofi isn't exactly poor. As a part of a prominent synevive family, she has a lot of money to throw around.

Sofi has Anya, her best friend and maidservant, with her wherever she goes. Anya is a constant source of support and encouragement.

Naturally calm and tactful, a trait not shared with the hotheaded Anya.

Weaknesses-
Feels corralled by the need to be proper and political.

Discouraged at times concerning Marn and politics. Wishes there was a path more conducive to her ideals.

Has a weird knack for losing things, especially small things.

Being a twenty year old female is an instant disadvantage in the political arena (privately of course, it wouldn't do to discriminate against her in public).

Secret bisexual tendencies.

Rivalry with the Morringtons and Vicentius in particular means there's a bridge already burnt, something Sofi hates.

Her wealth, public advocacy of Puradynism, and political status make her a target for anti-upper class sentiment and political mudslingers.

Natural agoraphobia is something Sofi must overcome in the frequent public events and parties she must attend.

Family & Significant People
Mother- 42- Vaiselle
Father- 49- Thomnas
Brother(half)- 27- Nasku
Sisters- 4- Maria-Cait and Aislyn (identical)
Uncle- 38- Geraldi

Maidservant- 16- Anya

Anya Crowley (née Abernathy)

Race- Human
Gender- Female
Date of Birth- September 9th
Age- 16
Eyes- Emerald green
Hair- Light auburn
Height- 5 feet 6 inches
Weight- 120 lb, scrawny

Occupation- Maidservant to Sofi Oslun

Physical Description-
Anya is a slight young woman, small-breasted and without shape in her hips and buttocks. Still, she has attractive cheekbone structure, deep green eyes with a hint of hazel, and a charming embouchure. She is very proud of her waist-long, straight auburn hair. Her gait does not match Sofi’s straight-backed grace, but still knows how to be polite in her posture (if she has to). Anya smiles often, though she frowns just as much; she is very expressive in her emotions, unlike Sofi, whose public life of suppressing strong emotions has carried over into her personal life.

Posessions- A modest wardrobe of dresses, part simple and worn around the house and Anya's own (not that she considers it much of a home anyway), part tailored alongside Sofi's. The latter match or complement Sofi's own dresses for the most part (Anya loves it when they dress in matching dresses!).

Anya typically dresses more plainly than Sofi, as is proper. Fortunately, this is less severe than in some other families, owing to the Olsuns’ acceptance of her. She also does not wear cosmetics. It's way too much work for little gain.

Strengths-
Anya, through fate and fortune, has been taken in by the Osluns as a surrogate daughter, though under the law she is a servant and she does not share the Oslun name, influence, or inheritance. Anya still performs her maidservant duties, but not much is expected of her and her work is treated very loosely. A large part of her responsibilities is to aid Sofi in her day-to-day activities: aiding in her bathing and dressing, writing political or otherwise official correspondence, and other odds and ends that assist Sofi.

Brilliant handwriting and a passion for calligraphy that she’s not very open about.

“I suppose having high standards is a strength of mine. It’s kept me out of bed with some of the scumbags this place is ridden with.” (Ironic)

Has a weird knack for finding misplaced items.

Weaknesses-
Anya smokes marijuana often, which is neither rare nor illegal in Marn but is nevertheless unbecoming of a young woman in service to the Oslun household, at least in Vaiselle's superlatively conservative eyes.

In an archetypal case of nature and nurture, Anya’s Abernathy blood and childhood with her mother the Crowley shine through her proper upbringing she was introduced to as a school-age girl. In fact, the latter is likely the only reason she isn’t as much of a mess as her parents.

Distrust for non-humans. Not really a dislike, but she generally feels more comfortable around humans.

The exception to the rule (as always exists) is Nasku. Anya has been infatuated with him for some time now, and only Sofi, her mutual confidante, knows this. Of course, it would never do to have her and Nasku become closer, but “it never ‘does’ to ‘do’ anything around here…”

Berates herself for not being more of a lady like Sofi. She chews her nails and more often than not says something improper in conversation. “That’s why you do the socializing, Sofi.”

Has a tendency toward agitated depression. It's plagued her since early teenage because of her feelings of inadequacy in the Oslun household. It's been agitated by drug use. "I'm worthless, but what are you going to do about it?"

______________
- Both Thomnas and Vaiselle are very conservative. Thomnas is so to the exclusion of personal considerations, but Vaiselle is a humanitarian and would compromise her conservative beliefs for her morals.

History-

Chapter One- A Foot In Both Camps
Sofi Oslun was a healthy baby born in the middle of the afternoon after a mild six-hour labor period. She cried softly until she was placed into her mother's arms by her wizened midwife, at which point her cries were replaced with a soft coo. Her older brother Nasku watched in a mix of careful fear and fascination, hugging the doorframe like his mother's leg.

Sofi said her first words, began to walk, and overall grew into a child complacently, always curious but cautious. As she got older, she came to admire her older brother Nasku, though it was embarrassingly obvious she was the preferred child. The young Sofi always felt sorry for her brother and tried whenever she could to make his life better. She didn't know how it felt to be him, but she empathized anyway. That trait would end up altering her life forever.

Anya Abernathy was born at three in the morning on a dirty bed in an inn with the innkeeper's hag of a mate as the midwife. Her crying woke everyone in the inn and her parents had to spend their first couple hours with their child accompanied by a grumpy, smelly innkeeper glowering at them from across the room.

Childhoods were both spent more quickly than they should have, full of new curiosities and rapid development. But whereas Sofi was content to sit and play with whatever was in front of her, Anya was always up and about adventuring somewhere. Consequently, Sofi learned to speak earlier and more fluently, but Anya was walking and articulating long before Sofi.

Anya’s mother died of pneumonia when the girl was 9 years old, and her aunt could not care for the now-orphaned child. Anya’s father had never been discovered, so her aunt took her to Metarie Sekhara to see if she could find him. Sure enough, Ree was able to, but they were impeded by the distraught child’s skittishness. She stayed at the hospital for two days of being treated with diluted doses of calming substances until she was calm enough for Metarie to perform the spell. “An Abernathy, that’s for sure,” the elf muttered under her breath as the scry became clear. “I’d know that jawline anywhere.” After another space of a few seconds, the entire image was clear. “By the Changers. Luca Abernathy.” Metarie sounded clinically interested, but not surprised. Anya’s aunt knew the Abernathys had a risqué nature, but she didn’t really know anything about Luca in particular. He looked young to be the father of a girl that old, though.

Though the aunt was anything but wealthy, she had no choice but to approach the Abernathys concerning the child. It so happened that the woman she knew who could get ahold of Luca was both a serial meddler and a bit of a busybody, so naturally, she ‘informed’ the aunt both that the Abernathys wouldn’t be the best place for a child to be raised and that Vaiselle Oslun couldn’t resist a pretty little orphan. Old Mrs. Busybody was delighted to contact Mrs. Oslun about Anya, and within a week, Anya was semi-formally living with the Osluns.

Meanwhile, Sofi’s childhood years had to that point been quiet but exciting. Sofi had shown a love for music in addition to her naturally sharp mind, a right perfect little girl fit to be a surrogate Thomnas Oslun’s eldest ‘son’ Nasku. The last thing she needed was an improper influence. But Vaiselle, being the motherly being she couldn’t help but be, set Anya up to be the perfect little companion for her perfect little child.

Anya was still in poor shape from her mother’s death, and being taken away from her aunt, however aloof she may have been for her childhood up until then, was even more of a shock. Vaiselle tried everything she could to lessen the stark new world little Anya had been dropped in. Still, when Anya was old enough, she was expected to earn her keep. At first, Anya would do trivial tasks in return for a piece of hard candy or something equally as trivial; this grew, of course, into monetary compensation for chores done around the house. Most of this money was sent to Anya's aunt, though tragically it seemed most of it was spent investing in a downward spiral into addiction and squalor.

Chapter Two- A Bird In the Hand

-Anya grew into a fairly typical servant, though with a closer connection tot he family than the usual maid because of the unique circumstances in which she was hired.

-Sofi tries to civilize Anya, but is fairly unsuccessful. It becomes more evident that Anya is just of different stock from the Osluns.

-Anya begins to have a secret passion for Nasku. Only Sofi knows.

-Thomnas dislikes Anya, but his superlative love for Sofi precludes him from dismissing her.

-Tensions plateau between Nasku and the Oslun parents after Sofi threatens suicide to break up a fight between Thomnas and Nasku. Vaiselle slowly becomes frail and timid, losing the powerful matriarchal aura that had once held the house up.

Chapter Three- Two Heads Are Better Than One

-Sofi worries that Anya's antics will ruin her chances at political success. Anya doesn't want what she does to affect Sofi, but at the same time feels broken that Sofi doesn't understand her. Sofi considers dismissing Anya, but as she confides in Nasku, he counsels her not to. "She'll become your greatest asset."- Nasku. Still, their relationship becomes strained.

-After a fight with Sofi, Anya shrugs off comfort from Nasku and storms out of the house. She does a large dose of opium (her first time, but she knows just the place to get it) and is nearly raped by a drunken Morrington before Nasku finds her and carries her home. In her delirious state, Anya confesses her love to Nasku; the latter is not sure if it was meaningful or the rambling of an altered state of mind.

-Her near-death experience leads Anya to have a bit of a change of heart. She starts to accompany Sofi to social events and draws closer to her mistress.

-As Sofi begins to receive suitors, Anya feels left out. (She has always been able to seduce a man and has been in a few relationships, but none serious enough to consider marriage). Her agitated depression leads her to sleep with a potential husband for Sofi. Thomnas finally tells Anya to leave when he finds out.

-Anya wanders the street for a month or so; she falls back in with the old crowd of upper-class servants, smoking marijuana and doing other surface drugs.

Chapter Four- In Way Over Your Head

-Anya, desperate for money, turns to prostitution. She is employed by a very small brothel that takes only the highest-class patrons (not the most luxurious bathhouse, but the place to go if you don't want to get caught there). Nasku happens to hear about the place and tells Sofi, who is distraught and refuses to leave the house. She goes secretly to the establishment and purchases Anya's room.

-Opiate-saturated and desensitized, she attempts to bed Sofi, who has to pin down Anya, who is very weak, and tell her multiple times who she is before it clicks in her mind. Anya has a moment of clarity and breaks down, not wanting Sofi to see her in this state. She begs Sofi to leave her behind and continue her life, which wouldn't have come to its full potential with her around anyway.

-The next night, Sofi returns with a large sum of money stolen from Thomnas' room and buys Anya from the owner of the brothel, giving money on top of that to forget he had ever seen Anya before. Sofi brings Anya home and nurses her back to health with Nasku's help, unbeknownst to Thomnas and Vaiselle.

-When it is revealed weeks later that Anya is once again in the house, Thomnas blames it on Nasku and attempts to kill him, but he escapes the house. Vaiselle and Sofi calm Thomnas down; he immediately regrets what he's done. Nasku returns the next morning and the house is silent for a time. Things eventually return to business as usual, but it takes quite a long time for "normal" to come back to the Oslun house.

Chapter Five- Started at the Bottom

-Sofi begins to loosen up around Anya's marijuana; stress relief is welcome in her life. (It's only in Sofi's room now, though. No more of the streets.) The tribulation in their lives has brought them closer together. They explore their sexuality together, begin to think as twins do, predicting each other's thoughts and actions, and overall grow into a force to be reckoned with. Sofi's quiet but fierce nature blends perfectly with Anya's brash attitude (she has a soft spot too, though!). As they grow into adulthood, life's problems seem to have taken their leave, for the moment at least.

Watch out, Marn.
Imitation is suicide...
