Manx, the WeatherMan

Post by AnnieInsight » Sat Jan 04, 2014 12:43 am

QUICK STATS
Name: Manx
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Height: 5 ft. 9 in.
Weight: 205 lbs.
Occupation: Wandering Assistant

IN-DEPTH STUFF
Physical Description:
Manx has a shock of orangish red hair, usually kept short because it's so unruly. (When it's long it kinda resembles an afro.) His hair is kinky in texture, but fine. It's incredibly soft to the touch, there's just a lot of it. His eyes are a brilliant green, with gold specks in them. They flash with lightning when Manx is angry...more about that later... Manx isn't rail-thin, he's of average build but he's got some muscle to him. He usually wears earthy colors...the browns, greens, dust reds... He's built for doing hard labor, since that's what he's all about. But there's a mystery about him...when you meet him, you can't quite place your finger on why he's odd, he just seems that way until you get to know him. He usually wears soft-soled shoes in order to not be heard when he approaches you. (He's got a thing with the loudness of footsteps.)

Manx is pretty weird when you first meet him...all over the place with his emotions. But he's got a method to his madness, so to speak. He's not openly friendly, he usually waits for people to approach him before he feels okay with sharing himself emotionally. He's not a snob, nor is he a recluse who just doesn't like people...he just reserves himself until he feels comfy with sharing your company. He does show anger pretty well, though...if Manx feels that he's been wronged in some way, he'll turn up that knob of wrath until you shrink from him with fear. He's usually apologetic after that happens, he just can't help himself when he's been tainted with rudeness or some other wrongdoing. Hence the reason his eyes burn with “lightning” whenever he's angry. He's a good guy, though...always wanting to help others and find out what he can do to make right with the land. It's just the emotional part of him that make Manx seem standoffish.

Possessions:
Manx has a staff that he carries with him at all times. He walks with it, he points at objects with it, he hits people over the head with it... This staff is special to him, his mentor carved it for him.

Manx has hoarded most of the money he's earned...but he chooses not to flaunt it. Money is just a part of living, nothing special about it. He knows better than to show how much he has, so it's hidden...somewhere on his property.

Because Manx is eager for knowledge, he has quite a large collection of books and learning materials. His living room is literally filled with these.

Powers/Strengths:
Manx has some basic weathering techniques...meaning that he can control what the sky does. When he's angry, of course...he can conjure up the worst lightning and thunderstorm you've seen in awhile. It's been said that when he's over the moon pissed off, he can actually conjure up a tornado/tsunami/hurricane...he's done it before, although not very often. When he's truly happy (which is rare), he can make the dead of winter seem like a bright sunny day. He can make it snow when he wants to, he can make it rain when he's feeling particularly sad. But he doesn't have this ability just on a whim, though...it's tied to his emotional state. Whatever Manx is feeling, you can count on the weather to act the same way.

Weaknesses/Flaws:
Manx can be pretty crass, especially if he's interrupted while he's working. He's a grouch, but somewhere in there is a soft side.

He walks with a limp on his right side...the result of one of his father's beatings. Manx had his leg broke by him and it never really healed properly, which was why Manx's mentor carved the staff for him in the first place.

History:
He lived with his mother and father until he was fifteen...and he left not a moment too soon. His father was a tyrant, always pushing Manx farther than he could possibly go...and his mother was a meek and mild woman, always willing to bend over backwards to do the things necessary to receive a little affection. Manx learned from an early age that women were weak, and so the girls he ended up bedding were totally under his control. There weren't many (because word got around) but Manx did have a few intimate relationships with some naïve women who learned quickly that Manx was just like his father in a lot of ways.

Because Manx's home life was harsh, he decided to get an early start with earning some money. He began to roam around the land, finding odd jobs to participate in. He usually helps out with logging jobs or food service jobs...something that doesn't deal too much with the public. Manx is so not a people person, so he does the odd jobs that deal with hard labor instead of salesmanship. Manx doesn't have much formal training, just a few years of schooling when he was a child, so he can't work in a trade. But he makes do with jobs that deal with common sense and physical ability.

Hey Annie,

You left chat before I could finish speaking with you about your characters. I'm going to focus on this one from this point on and let Kat handle the other.

First of all, I'm going to need you to either create a separate account for this character or let me rename your existing account Manx. We need account names to match up with their characters to make it easier for other members to find your posts.

Secondly, I'd like you to spend some more time on this one. I'm going to need to see some real weaknesses to balance out his powers and seeing as how this is your first (or second) character, I would like his powers to be toned down a bit. Remember our site is about character development and interaction, not so much cool powers that can level cities and kill thousands of people.

I noticed that you did not name a location where he lives, so I would like to know where in the world you plan to place him.

I would also like to see your history expanded. I want to know more about him, his personality, how long he has had his magical abilities and what his feelings towards his powers are. Does he force himself to maintain a good mood so as not to have a negative impact on the weather? How do the local farmers and those that rely on weather patterns feel about him? Do others even know about his powers?

Why is he not a people person?

What kind of learning materials and books does he collect?

Why was he unable to work in a trade?

These are just a few things to think about. Please leave a reply here when you have made edits or if you have any questions.

That's totally okay with me...I gotta figure out how I'm gonna work that out. I'd like to keep my name (Annie Insight) as my profile, but I can totally work out a character profile with Manx and then again with Slypsa when the time is okay for me to do it. *nods* Yay? I hadn't understood the in's and out's of Thar, but I'm gettin' the hang of it now. *fist pump* I noticed that Frug had reminded me that I'm supposed to put up one character at a time to start out with...sorry about that!! Did you want me to take Slypsa down until Manx has been approved?

I'll be able to fix the wonky stuff in the morning...it's late and I need some sleep. See ya in chat soon! *huggs* :P

I'm sorry Annie but rule #2 under account creation clearly states:
Do not use numbers or symbols in your account name, and make your account name match the name of your character (or at least make it related to your character somehow)
We do this to both fit the setting and so that others will be able to find your posts once you start posting. If another member wants to look up your character sheet or read the various threads you have written it will be much easier to find them by searching "Manx" (your character's name) than it will be to search some random username that is not remotely related to the character.
