Dearest Bela,

I have made some progress on one experiment and its been several days since our last meeting.

Come to the lab soon.

Undated

Dearest,

The texts you shared on homunculi and golems were insightful. Over the course of the last two years, I managed to create a golem from inanimate matter. Theogious would be proud! From this work, I applied the principles to animate matter.

It always, always comes back to the blood, doesn't it? Using materials from a miscarried babe, a small skopeîn, and the properties of your blood, I was able to build upon your prior work. The key lays not in the complex, developed body parts but in the smaller, formative blood components found within the umbilicus!

By combining properties of healing magics, anatomy, your blood, umbilicus blood, and bone fragments, I have managed to create whole body parts. Frustratingly, I have not been able to create a whole flesh golem. Combining the body parts and the spells associated with golems resulted in failures or misshapen creatures insufficient for your needs. But, from failures come knowledge and inspiration.

I am turning my focus toward the core components of creation: sperma and ovum. If I cannot create a viable container using developed body parts, perhaps I can grow a humunculi. Time, after all, is something we both can afford.

I will provide another status update soon.

202PW

Dearest Bela,

After years of our experimentation, we both know the magic involved was transformative, changing the very foundation of your physical body. The effects are, sadly, irrevocable and irreversible.

In the attached documentation, you will find both failures and successes of my research to provide you relief from the variety of symptoms affecting your ability to endure light. I am pleased to note the epidermal coating grew well and survived direct sunlight for two to four hours. I recommend trying it on one hand and expanding the exposed areas slowly.

As expected, the secondary research also yielded failures and successes. The premise of this research is to use an homunculi to house you, thus removing the physical transformations - an astral transference, if you will.

Thank you for providing the various genetic materials I requested. I attempted to infuse your genetic materials with attributes from other races with no success until I stumbled upon a unique trait in both human and elf umbilical cord blood. I found I could extract certain elements from the blood using the magical dissection techniques outlined in the documentation. The merged elements created pieces of the homunculi. You will find the preserved specimens in my laboratory at the Asylum for your review. You may have already examined them.

Spurred by this research, I conducted tests based on our knowledge of embryonic and fetal development. Initial tests using ovarian eggs and seminal material resulted in fertilization. Imagine the application for herd animals!

The downside of the tests resulted in the lack of a viable environment for the growth of the fertilized eggs. It would seem that growing a viable uterus without a woman attached is harder than one would expect. To determine if the fertilized eggs could grow to fruition, I used the women donors to carry the eggs. Of the ten successfully fertilized eggs, only one survived – mine.

Also enclosed you will find blood samples from her for each year, over the last thirty years. The structure remains constant and strong. Her connection to the Astral realm is strong and her potential still untapped. I suspect proximity to the Cemetery and my contributions to your meals may also have had an effect on fetal development.

I apologize for not delivering the results of these experiments sooner. I grew more fond of you over the years than was appropriate, as you know. I hope you will forgive my hubris and selfishness. I hope, too, you will allow the result of the experiment to live her life to its fullest. She is our legacy.

Consider finding her an appropriate mate and breed her properly. The resulting embryo may offer further research potential to find you a cure.

Regards,

Ciara

The following were made within the notes of the related research materials:

Experiment 1 - Epidermal Layer

The epidermal layer is literally a skin suit.

Notes include research regarding 'skin walkers', beings who create a layer of skin resembling someone else.

The skin sloughs off after a short time, possibly staying viable for up to 4 hours, but should offer additional protection to Bela's regular skin from light damage.

Further notation speaks to successful skin grafts and medical applications with magic use dispensation.

Experiment 2 - Homunculi

Research notes include references to spiritual transference, possession, and astral projection. Notations regarding the puppet man (Tell Vokun) are made here.

Experiment 3 - In vitro fertilization

Expansion on homunculi research, except this grows a fully formed body versus body parts. Notations regarding an homunculi uterus and laboratory life span of the various uteri (pl?), longest lived one kept for 15 days before beginning to rot. Notations also made regarding use of animals versus humans to incubate viable eggs. Tangent notes include incubation notations for purposes of stock animals and other applications.

Further notes include questions, such as "breed a host?" - this is underlined several times. Further down, a handwritten side note - "can't do it... just can't."
