Quick Summation

Availability: Anyone who wants to make a rebel is more than welcome to! Please note that new players may be subject to more scrutiny as unfamiliarity with the setting might lead to more brainstorming on apps.

Posting Speed: Depends on individual thread.

Characters Involved: List is here

Thread starting date: Current threads. The main body of rebellion threads are happening in Spring of 122. However, as Paragon has been operating in the city for the past 8-10 years, threads might happen during any one of those years.

Location: Marn.

Summary: This group is intended to help organize Paragon’s actions against the Government. This group will likely only be active for the duration of the Rebellion plot; how it functions will doubtless change once things come to a head.

Other Notes or links: This group will be dealing extensively with the Rebellion plot and guardsmen.


Group information

The Paragon is a fractious anti-government newspaper that has been -- at the higher levels -- adjusted to a new purpose. The paper's original owners are unknown, but by the path that has been taken in recent years it is clear that the ownership has moved in a new direction.

Paragon presently functions as a clandestine cell system, with the former newspaper being just one branch of the overall structure. There are five branches total, each catering to different tasks that help Paragon function as a whole. There is a leader of each branch, separate from Paragon's true and mysterious leader. Communication between these branches flows one way, just as most information flows down each branch primarily one way. This is to ensure that one or two individuals or cells being compromised will not affect the structure of the whole.

Finance

Does most of the support, procuring supplies. Also operates outside business: the type of stuff where those working in these things won't know it's for Paragon.

Military training/operations

The violent stuff. There are a number of sleeper cells in this branch. They plan out the violent revolution and preliminary strikes to weaken the government before they are ready to take it out. If these guys infiltrate certain businesses or whatnot, it is typically in order to execute a strike later on.

Communications

Gathers information/tips, facilitates dead drop spots, ciphers, and disseminating information through each of the spokes. These are also the individuals who infiltrate purely for information. Communications, by necessity, is perhaps the most secretive of all the branches: they are the facilitators of any planned movements, and are the ones who receive indirect communication from Paragon's leader. It is their responsibility to disseminate information throughout the network, as well as to ensure available meeting places or dead drops (as procured by Transportation) are arranged for use and changed regularly.

Propaganda

Prints Vitiable Paragon, does the majority of recruitment and processing of recruits. Once the recruits have been vetted as safe, their recruiters will receive information from their superiors about new locations where recruits are sent. These recruits will then be picked up by a cell or individual to begin working for reals.

Transportation

In charge of moving large amounts of supplies, getting people in/out of Marn, and securing apartment/boltholes for various cells as needed.

Map Key

Paragon is set up in a way that is inefficient but more secure. Each break in a black line represents a break in knowledge of whereabouts. For example, in Communications Erila will know how to communicate with R1, Theonas, but she will not know where anyone past him is located. Similarly, she will know how to contact R2, but will not be aware of any individuals past that person. R1 and R2 will never have direct contact with each other and, depending on their need to know, may never even realize the other exists.

In the same vein, R1a and R1b will not know anything about each other, but both will have communications with R1.

Most of Paragon will function in a direct line like this, though there may also be small clusters where there will be multiple groups who can communicate with one or two others, such as with Three's apothecary, Kala.

Unaffiliated workers represent legitimate business interests or workers whose work benefits Paragon, but the individuals do not realize what they are doing is part of Paragon's structure. These things might be a business front that does work necessary to the city of Marn -- like a blacksmith or machinist -- but who is sponsored or has a client who is using their work for Paragon.

History
  • Paragon, as a newspaper outlet, was first formed around 142PW.
  • The Guard did a brief investigation into it around 140PW; the higher ups gave the order to let it keep going as a mild outlet for the discontent.
  • 132PW saw the newspaper bought by a new owner who then started to rearrange its structure.
  • 129PW - The first cell outside of the paper was created. Lord un Jeong became a donor.
  • 128PW - More people were brought in. The cell structure solidified.
  • 127PW - Paragon solidified into the structure presently held today.
  • 125PW - the government becomes interested in the newspaper again when it starts to print more overtly rebellious papers.
  • 123PW - the Guard begins a secret investigation into Paragon.
  • 122PW - Paragon begins the final stages of its plans to overthrow the govt.

OOC notes:

Paragon’s owners are a shady bunch, and I’m still taking ideas as to who some of its upper reaches might just be. There are nefarious pixies about, and a battlemage or two who aren’t so happy with the way Bela is running things. But who else, I wonder? How does it all fit together? These are some of the things I’m hoping members will aspire to answer. :)

My darlings! It is time to plot and brainstorm things for Paragon and the cells we have now and the ones tentatively up for creation.

Assassination Squad

Leader/assassin: Shanuri
backup/connections: Aurelio
Assassin/connections: Ivone
Hookups/intel: Andras
Assassin/backup: Haneul (also doubling as one of Paragon's heavy hitters)
High society connections/intel/invitations: Erebos

Planned target: Judge Vyaduka
Assassin: Ivone
Backup: Aurelio
Setup: Erebos/Andras
Plan: Ivone becomes his sweetheart and poisons him.

Discussion: How are they doing this? How far along are they? What sort of threads do we use?

Andras and Erebos would be the ones tracking movement and listening in for information.

Ivone will need to act coy and in control: publicly she needs to be the one in "control" of Aurelio, due to his bad reputation, either stringing him along or with him on her dime.

I PROPOSE: Ivone sets herself up with the help of Aurelio as a sort of businesswoman looking to provide entertainment at parties. Aurelio could act as her advisor (his reputation in terms of business is solid), and Shanuri would be her chief "talent" with Haneul as the protegee. Possibly they might keep a few npcs who don't know what's going on to have a wider selection.

Erebos could function as a patron, or investor, and Andras would remain invisible to the public eye.

Meanwhile, Shanuri would be working to seduce/entice. . .

Planned target: Minister of Finance Monetario Morrington
Assassin: Shanuri/Haneul
Backup: Haneul
Setup: Andras/Erebos

Monetario is a blank slate npc, which means we can write it into his character that he likes entertainment, and perhaps as a married man he likes dabbling with delightful young things on the side. Or something whatever. That's where our ladies step in, to take advantage!

I PROPOSE: Both plans are progressed to the point that Vyaduka recognizes Ivone and Morrington recognizes Shanuri/Haneul. So they are effectively friendly, progressing towards the point where the poison can come in. I would like to have them rather close by the time the Gala swings around, though we can rp up to that point (I would prefer it if we did) -- this way when the bomb goes off they're less likely to resist advances from the ladies.

Thread ideas:

1 past thread where they're setting up either the start of the Vyaduka plan or the Morrington plan, all of them there -- establishing relationships and getting a feel for the rp. (probably Fall 123 or so)

1 threadset for the Morrington angle, mostly Shanuri/Haneul/Andras/Erebos (late 123 at the earliest, march 122 at the latest)

1 threadset for the Vyaduka angle, mostly Aurelio/Ivone/Andras/Erebos (late 123 at the earliest, march 122 at the latest)

I expect Andras and Erebos will be bouncing in and out of threads, and will likely have threads with each other as shit needs progression or whatever.

The Gala

Guard Infiltration

Planned target: I would like to get a few specific goals. We know they need information on the Loyalists' movements. Probably they'd want to look for guardsmen to flip. There might be things they want to steal.

I PROPOSE: I think we're pretty good on the relationship establishment threads, mostly we're waiting on stuff for Yiamas to close out. Sebastian should get rosters back to the cell, and they should use this to watch places of interest -- namely things that need taking out. Miklos' birds then takes what they learn to prearranged points.

Thread ideas: (happening in May)

1 Sebastian thread dealing with one of the above points: stealing rosters, getting in good with Ferric, or ferreting information about what the Guard knows in Paragon. This will likely be done with another guard.

1 Miklos/Qamra thread scouting out information received from Sebastian.

1 Kala/Three thread -- perhaps discussing what they might be able to do with each other, as neither is full in with Paragon.

Any other combo -- this group is probably the most likely to undergo internal combustion. We can dial that up or down depending on where we want to go.

Gala

Fallout from Gala -- a week or two later the wall will be going down. We'll see what happens after that.

Tunnel Crew


NEW

Meesh's character will be involved with a Transportation cell who make use of the poor living in shit circumstances in the tunnels under the Historic District (or wherever). This cell will be involved with moving and storing some stuff, providing hideouts and other sorts of intel related to that.

This cell could definitely be involved with the shifter & orcrats, whether it's a pet project so to speak or something ordered from the top down. These are the folks who would have set up the released cell, and might indirectly help them (certain things with planned dates ahead of time, moving needed stuff or even carrying certain things out). Or whatever works -- Steph, James, Meesh, Taylor -- you've all expressed interest (or already done marvelous rp) in the tunnels. Please brainstorm! Create a thread in plot discussion if you need to, and I am always down to brainstorm too.


Released Cell

NEW

The bomb, the wall, the water tower: these acts of violence will be recognized as belonging to a group of renegades who are, publically, tired of the govts shit and looking to fix things no matter the cost.

In actuality, this group will be a released Paragon cell looking to stir things up in the hopes of scooping up more conservative unhappy citizens who were otherwise staying out of everything.

I am considering doing a 3-4 man crew (with npc support) who will be ads. The deeds can be rped out or talked about -- however you guys want to go. If interested speak up!
