Day Off Drama

Post by Talia Idris » Tue Nov 05, 2013 1:37 am

Talia exited the dress store, waving a farewell to the shopkeeper and then glancing up to check the time. By the height of the sun in the sky it looked to be only noon. She sighed as she continued down the street. Bepa and Vadim had a cousin in town who had promised to help in the bakery, actually she had practically begged to work there for the week. Of course they thought that they were being nice for giving her the week off but it was only the second day and already she was bored.

Unfortunately she didn't really have many friends, living in the bakery meant she didn't have any neighbors. Perhaps it would be nice to go see if Drayel was off work, or maybe even Jackal. They were the closest things that she had to friends...even if they seemed to only make trouble for her!

Looking down at her dress she decided that perhaps it would be a good idea to change into something a little bit nicer, maybe see if Bepa had any cookies or sweet buns she could take the boys. Although doing so might cause her to get hit with a barage of questions from the chubby baker woman while her husband grinned cheekily from behind her. Rolling her eyes at the thought Talia decided to risk it anyways.

It only took her a few minutes for her to backtrack to the bakery. Sneaking in the back she used her key to enter through the kitchen. Of course she was scolded by Bepa for not staying out. But as soon as she heard Talia's request the silly womans' eyes widened while a grin started to stretched across her face as started to bustle around the kitchen allowing Talia to sneak out and up the stairs.

It only took a few minutes for her to change into her pretty white shirt and her favorite blue skirt that she saved for special occasions. Strapping her belt with her purse and small knife on it. Perhaps the knife was overkill but it was habit and the one time that she had decided not to bring it she had regretted it. A final check in the mirror to make sure her braid was alright she bounced down the stairs, where Bepa was holding a pretty basket hostage.

"Where are you headed dressed up so prettily?" Bepa asked she hid the basket behind her back with a grin.

"No where, just going to go out and snack while I relax, like you told me to do!"

"Oh so you don't need all this extra food then."

"No! I uhh....oh fine. I am going to hang out with a couple guys." Talia sighed

"A couple guys! Talia! I know I said you should get a boyfriend but you don't need to have two of them!" Bepa looked a little shocked which caused Talia to laugh.

"Well one is a guard and the other is his son. And before you freak out he isn't married and the boy is his adopted son. They both are terrible when it comes to baking so I am going to bring them a little something! I will see you all later!" With that Talia grinned and headed for the door, snatching the basket from Bepa before she had a chance to ask more questions.

Day Off Drama

Shade stood silent in the bushes near the Bakery, ears pricked and eyes watching as he waited for the young baker to reappear. Of course, when he'd seen how she flounced about with the bag of what he presumed was goodies in hand he couldn't help but make a face. No doubt aiming to give them to Drayel and Jackal. He sighed as he followed her again, dodging in and out of crowds and slipping easily behind her without so much as a pause in stride.

"Greetings Talia." Shade greeted pleasantly as he kept his pace with her. "I'm surprised your out! Aren't you suppose to be working?"

He knew she wasn't, he was making small talk. Drayel had already given him the run down of what was happening, and the order to guard over the little baker in case of troubles. He groaned and grumbled about it, taking the job with a grumpy huff but both of them knew it was just for play. Shade knew how easily the baker attracted trouble and on a day off without some sort of eye there was little doubt she'd run into more.

He distantly wondered what Drayel had done to tick off the higher ups this time, most likely cursing and kicking as he normally did or they found out the killer dough was somehow Drayel's fault. Anyway, somehow or another he was sent off to Shim and unable to return until another three days passed. He growled a little in irritation.

Three days to play guard dog.

"Where are you headed anyway? Surely nowhere dangerous." A jibe and a warning. He was not going to put up with unnessicary work effort. Not on his watch anyway. "Without Drayel around, you'd find yourself short a guard in shiny armor. Well, dented and rather scratched but armor none the less."

Talia pretended she didn't see Shade has he approached her but the shifter seemed to be insisting on following and talking to her. It wasn't that she didn't have anything against the man, or beast. After all he was working for the guards after all so he couldn't be that bad. Still, he was a shifter, and a wolf at that and Talia liked to limit her contact with anyone and anything with magical skills..magic tended to have bad effects in her life.

"It's not your concern why I am not working." Talia realized that she may have come across a little harsh and so softened her tone and attempted a smile. "But if you must know, my bosses have a cousin from Shim in town and she took my place in the bakery so I have a couple days off to do as I please." And they won't be with you!

She continued walking hoping that Shade would lose interest and go chase a squirrel or something. Of course it was not to be...figured that Drayel wouldn't be around when she had a day off. She sighed as she stopped and turned to face the man. "Why would I be headed anywhere dangerous? And where is Mr. Morig? I wasn't aware that he had left." She tried her best to not appear disappointed, there went her plans for the week. "Is Jackal still around at least or did he head of with Dray..Mr. Morig, as well? I was going to bring the boys something from the bakery since we both know how wonderful they are when it come to flour." Talia rolled her eyes and giggled.

"Jack isn't here either." Shade answered flatly, his body tensing slightly as he felt irritation take hold.He didn't like that tone she'd used, nor the glare she sent over her shoulder. He probably did something to deserve it but none the less he didn't appreciate it in the least. He growled a bit, giving her the same cold stare she'd given him. "I don't know where he is but Drayel took care of it. You're stuck with me."

He knew she wouldn't like it, but rather blunt then stalking. He huffed a bit as he eyed her, shoving his hands in his pockets while lowering his head to look her better in the eye. He wasn't a bad man, he wasn't a nasty man. He was as gentlemanly as the next bloke but that didn't mean he had patience.

"Honestly, I can't see a young gal like you getting in trouble either but Drayel asked me to keep an eye on you." Shade stated with a huff. "If you don't like it, I can follow you as a dog if you prefer but I'm not technically allowed to leave ya alone till he gets back. Orders are orders and he's payin' me a good weight to keep you safe."

There. All in the open, no bars, blunt attitude. Not his usual approach with the ladies but hey, it worked.

"WHAT?!" Talia's jaw dropped as her voice went kind of high pitched. "That...that man HIRED you to guard me?! Oh when I get my hands on that....idiot, I am doing to give him a piece of my mind." Talia stormed off as she ranted, chances are Shade was going to follow her. He had made it quiet clear what his job was.

"I can't believe he would do something like that. What am I? A piece of meat that needs protecting? He could of at least said goodbye or told me himself that he was going to have you hanging around. Oh he is going to be in so much trouble!" Talia sighed. She felt a little bit better even though she still couldn't get over the idea of what Drayel had done.

Sitting on a bench she looked up at the shifter who seemed to be hanging back. "Well now that is out of the way....would you like some cookies? I certainly won't be eating them all and I guess I won't be giving to them who I was planning on them for." Talia crossed her ankles and smoothed out her skirt, she was a lady after all. "Honestly you don't need to follow me or anything. I will be just fine, the only ways I have ever gotten in trouble is because of Jackal and Drayel anyways. And I can handle myself, I haven't always lived in the bakery after all. I promise I won't tell Drayel." She looked hopefully up at him.

When she started squawking in fury, Shade eased some distance between the two. After all, this wasn't his first furious woman to deal with and he doubted it was his last. No, instead he simply sat back and watched her with a wary eye for any signs of screaming, blaming or fist flinging. Seeing her decide to sit down and even offer him a seat made him pause, knowing full well he was walking on thin ice as it was.

"Drayel always has been daft and thanks, I'll join you." Shade said politely as he came and laid beside her with a grunt. "I think though, he's more or less worried about your safety is all. He isn't meaning to overstep I doubt but if you're friends with the lug head you'll find you get help even if ya don't ask for it. I've gotten tons of jobs from him and even the occasional meal." He eyed her with a raised eyebrow, his lips twisting in a hearty smirk as he grinned mischievously at her. "Why not have a drink? That outta show him your not a little girl anymore."

He grinned widely, relaxing in a lazy pose with his chin propped up with a palm. Distantly he wondered where Drayel was and just how much he could get away with. Not that he'd try anything with Talia of course but maybe he could tease her a bit. Poor girl may be a bit stiff but she seemed like a generally amusing woman.

"What's the verdict, Miss Idris?"

"I know he is a nice guy, and a gentlman at that but still..." Talia rolled her eyes and then sighed before continuing on quietly. "I don't think he realizes that I really can take care of myself. But then why should he think that, he doesn't really know much about me. Or at least not anything about my past." Talia's eyes glazed over for a moment before she shook the thoughts from her mind and grinned at Shade.

"If history has proven anything....I am not very good with alcohol. I can keep it down mind you...I just can't have very much of it because I get, well I can get rather silly. And on occasion a bit jumpy." She looked down at the lounging man. "So, what's the deal, with you and Drayel? He always seems to be smacking you around but you still seem to hang out with him all the time." She smirked at him. "And what about my offer? You can get paid and your freedom and I don't have to have you following me everywhere. I think it's a pretty good offer." Talia popped a piece of cookie in her mouth as she leaned forward and rested her chin on her hand, smiling at Shade and hoping he would agree.

"Alas, I'm afraid I have to follow you none the less." Shade said mockingly sad. "A dog obeys the master after all and master spoke." Hearing the comment on the smacking however made Shade grimace before throw his head back and start laughing. "Drayel tends to be a bit of a worry wort. Depending on the situation is how he sees to scold. Also, I suppose seeing how I'm a shifter he shows dominance over the wolf with it. Only man to keep me in line in all three forms actually, not that he'd brag about it."

Shade hummed as he looked up at the sky. "Poor bastard. He's shy as a school girl with the face of a bear. Almost got him a bit of woman one night but he snapped out of his drunk stupor and panicked. Knocked poor lass ass over teakettle. He helped her up and got a slap for it. Mind you, I got quite the beating for that one. Never spike his drink, he doesn't like it."

Shade mused a little as he took a cookie and nibbled on it with a pleased hum.

"Anyway, if me following you bugs you that much I can do it either at a distance or as a dog. At least then you can pretend I'm not there again." Shade didn't stop the growl that took his voice near the end nor did he regret it. He was human too, well close to it. He never chose to be a shifter and if she wanted to sneer at him for it then he'd sneer right back. "Pick between the two because sorry darlin', those are the only two I'm offering."

Talia leaned back and sighed but looked sideways at him, trying to hide her curiosity about him. She wasn't aware that shifters had more then the two forms. But then again she never really had any reason to be around one. "If you have to follow me might was well do it as you are. I can get some company out of it and personally it won't feel as awkward if you were...in your other form. And it's not like I have anyone who would get jealous over me hanging out with another man. Well no one who I care about." She laughed again as she thought about a couple of her regular customers who certainly didn't come to just to buy bread.

"And perhaps you just need to spike Drayel's drink with something a bit stronger." Talia looked back at Shade with an equally mischievous grin. "Perhaps that's how I can 'thank' him for his 'generosity'. I still don't know why he did all this, but who am I to question what goes on in that man's mind. Or any man's mind for that matter." Talia shrugged as she let her her hand toy with one of the flowers that grew beside her. It was certainly a fact that she had never really dated and her once experience with men ended in a less then desirable way.

"...You know what would really work at getting back at ol' tincan?" Shade asked with a devious grin crossing his face. "What would happen if we went man-hunting for ya? At least teach you how to pick up a man. If he heard you were flirtin' with a bunch of boys then who knows what kind of fumes he'd blow."

Shade grinned as he pictured Drayel's shocked stare, eyes wide and disbeliving as he gawked at his once inncoent and shy baker woman. No, this was too good to pass up. Screw her decisions. Shade purred wickedly as he gave her a shifty smirk. "Of course, if he was jealous then he'd probably visit more. Keep those perverts away with that icy glare he wears when he gets aggravated."

Shade licked his chops as he grinned eagerly at her.

"Come one Tal, show the wild in ya. Or are you too much of a little girl? Not enough independence to step up to the plate and take on a man?" He snickered before taking another bite of bread. He gave her a cheeky sneer. "Poor little Talia, needing Drayel to protect her so much that he'd hire a mutt to keep the bad men from coming by... Nawww."

"I don't know how flirting with men would have any affect on Drayel." Talia looked a bit confused as she looked to Shade for some understanding. "As far as he has told me I only seem to get into trouble. Which as I stated before, only happens when he is around." She rolled her eyes before looking sharply at Shade when he continued to talk.

She was going to ask him what he meant by the whole jealousy thing that he mentioned but he continued to quickly, and soon she was distracted away from that little tidbit. Glaring at him she snapped "I And for goodness sake stop calling me a little girl! I am 19 and I have been on my own since I was 14. A 'little girl' could not do that, could she. And I never asked Drayel to hire you to protect me. He did that on his own. I haven't had trouble with men before and I won't let it start now so there, I can take on a man if I want to!"

As soon as the last sentence was out she regretted it. Not that is was wrong or anything but by the look on Shade's face that is exactly what he was hoping she would say. She would be more then lucky if she was able to get of the challenge that she had practically issued herself.

"Well, lets test." Shade cackled as he jumped to his feet and offered her a hand. "So shall we go and find you a man? Shall I show you the tricks to make you irrisistable or shall we try and accent your current features? Ehehehhe, I'm quite excited about this to be honest. Maybe Lisa will pull in on this! Jackal too.... When he comes back."

Shade already was putting things around in his head, wandering through stores and moving her hair around as he tried to picture her best looks. She was shy, they could use that too. He growled pleasantly as he gave her a smug wink. "We're gonna go for a good shopping trip! On Drayel's wallet of course."

"Oh no." Talia said backing away with a stern look on her face. "If we are going to do anything of the sort then it's just going to be just you and me. I don't really know this Lisa and I can't have her thinking I am anything like you." Talia teased before becoming serious again. "And I don't want to get Jackal involved, we have to set a good example for the boy. Who said I was going to do anything of the sort anyways? I only said that I could catch a man if I wanted to. I just never have time, some of us work hard for a living." She quirked an eyebrow at him before grinning.

"Although I do like the idea of shopping, although perhaps not on Drayel's wallet. The poor man has a kid to feed after all. No, we can use some of my money that I have been saving for a rainy day. Now, a guy like you probably knows of all the best shops to take a lady so lead the way, darling." Talia slipped her hand into the crook of his arm and coyly looked at him. For lack of nothing better to do she would go along with his game, although she was going to do her best to keep it on her terms not his.

"Of course my dear." Shade purred as he promptly lead her away. The hairdresser first? No, maybe the dressings. He'd make her shop and then get makeup done for her. To accent her features, to add grace to her looks, why he'd make her drop dead beautiful. That and if he got what he wanted, he'd have Drayel stop hounding on him to keep an eye on Talia.

It didn't take long for them to find the shop he searched for, eyeing the elegant dressing with a sweetened smirk. She was lucky she was with him. With him he was the talk of the ladies, well the promiscious ones. A couple chuckles, some smirks and a wind or two and they'd save enough money for her to splurg at the end.

"Come on then Mrs Talia, lets get started." Shade grinned as he practically dragged her inside and looked around, spotting the clerk without much effort. He gave her a slight smile before glancing down at Talia. "Go find a couple dresses you like. Fancy, sexy, go."

With that he sauntered to the clerk with his lady killer smirk sliding into place.

Time for my part of the deal.

Talia rolled her eyes at Shade's back as he wandered off to do some more flirting. She was surprised the man was still alive with the amount of womanizing that he seemed to do although she was even more surprised that women would fall for a shifter, this was Marn after all. But then there were varying degrees of loyalty and perhaps some of them didn't even know he was a werewolf, what was he going to say, 'Hi, my name is Shade and I am a shifter. Wanna share my bed tonight?' Talia snickered at the thought as she browsed through the dresses.

The prices of some scared her but she continued looking. It wasn't as if she hadn't built up her own fair share of saving. With business at the bakery going so well and never having to pay accommodations she deserved to splurge. Plus the way the shopkeeper was drooling over Shade perhaps they would be able to get a discount.

Eventually Talia blocked out all thoughts of the man with her as she tried on several dress. Some were just too much poof and frills while others felt like there was nothing there. Eventually she settled on a few options, changed back into her clothes and headed to the till.

"What do you think?" Talia asked as she held the dresses up for inspection. "I thought I would get your opinion on which on I get." Her personal favorite was a pale pink dress. The v-kneck dipped a little low for her liking but the rest was fairly innocent. The second one was made of gauzy purple material. It reminded her of the dress that she had worn on her adventures with Drayel on her last day off, although it wasn't nearly as risque as that one had been. The last dress she showed she had almost not chosen, but it had fit her form perfectly and she did like how the red dress sparkled in the light, although the cut up the side scared her a bit.
