Bad Reputation
Re: Bad Reputation
mind if I skip them through dinner and go either to later that evening in order to set something else up or to the next morning?

Go right ahead
I'll roll with whatever you want to throw into the mix!
If you go the morning route, just remember: Guiomar will have a horrendous hangover.
If you go the later that night option, Guiomar will likely be fast asleep. Muahaha. >.>

Re: Bad Reputation
So I've been thinking about my post and the crime and the use of magic. It occurred to me that with the limitless application of magic in Pal Tahrenor that the empire would need a special task force (including investigators) for rogue mages.
It also occurred to me that Moruans, at the very least, wouldn't want that -- which leads to a private investigator angle, either an outside investigation or, more likely, within the family itself. Not necessarily someone who is themselves a magic user, but someone who is maybe sensitive to the energies from the Astral Plane. A mage hunter. Could give us an interesting spin off, at the least!
edit - to remember
(13:29:26) Saruna: how about a change in item inspection of one of the places Ramiro was putting his goods through on the way out of Morua? He received a tip from one of his cousins that something big was coming down the pipe that might affect his dealings, he did some pre-emptive legwork and discovered the trail that lead him to Morveres
(13:30:38) Saruna: like a major trade route city under de Morua control (or perhaps even Riestra control and they're of course cooperating with de Morua to the fullest extent, no chinks for Ramiro to slip through)
(13:31:04) Saruna: or a port city
(13:31:24) Saruna: by item I mean trade goods

Re: Bad Reputation
my three thoughts about the first door:
the majordomo/captain turned or were coerced
key was stolen (returned? not returned?)
majordomo went in for something, one of the guards slipped something between doors to prevent it from locking completely. or something. I don't know.

Re: Bad Reputation
Mental Notes:
(09:04:27) Diego: We need to decide, I guess, if this was a 'perfect, unsolvable crime' or 'did they make a mistake'
(09:04:47) Qamra Kalara: mistake
(09:05:06) Diego: Alright. So their mistake is not realising Sarita has a pet mage with that ability
(09:05:07) Qamra Kalara: and it would be on the traitor's side
(09:07:32) Diego: The outsiders would know of the estate mages, and taken their abilities into account, of course. But they, and the traitor wouldn't know of Sarita's pet mage: the critical oversight which may start to slowly unravel things
(09:07:36) Diego: Of course, the degrees of separation between the Guiate and the actual traitor will mean the crime cannot be pinned on them, but Sarita will be smart enough to suspect them once the target of the theft is ascertained
(09:08:44) Diego: At least, not pinned down immediately
(09:09:47) Diego: All the traitor will be able to say is 'I was contacted by someone who was threatening to send my family into poverty, and had the ledgers to prove it'
(09:11:31) Diego: That trail will lead to a legitimate financier who was bribed handsomely by someone, claiming to be a rival to the indebted family, into taking the hard line with them.
(09:11:58) Qamra Kalara: oh, that's lovely

Re: Bad Reputation
It just occurred to me that if Ramiro was going after very specific information he probably wouldn't want Sarita to know what information he was looking at.
Is it feasible he would have the magethief copy or perhaps memorize the information he needed without taking anything? I know that'll make things more difficult for our characters, but I sure wouldn't want someone knowing hey, someone now knows about the trade regulation changes through x city -- especially because once that theft was discovered Sarita could then have the changes stopped or changed, again.
In fact, I might even have my magethief take some other juicy bit of info just to further obscure my trail. Something that might point to another family entirely.
Granted, Sarita can assume that any of her most pertinent information is compromised, but that would be a lot of stuff and would carry with it political ramifications should she wish to act on her knowledge. Too that would mean we'd need to account for what is in that room.
Alternatively, we can have the mage go through and see what our magethief has touched, but if s/he took the time to carefully lay hands on a lot of stuff that would still slow down the investigation dramatically for Sarita.
Thoughts?

Re: Bad Reputation
That makes a lot of sense
Poor Sarita's work will be cut out for her with this turn of affairs, that is for sure!
I have decided to add card playing into my post, and also put some ideas in the world dev thread here:
http://www.tharshaddin.com/rp/viewtopic ... 646#p36646
The game I refer to in-post can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Briscola#. ... Black_Hand
It seemed like the kind of thing which would be well suited to Corezo. Let me know what you think!

I love it.
Also, despite your numerous reminders, I totally managed to forget about Guiomar's hangover in my last post. I am sorry!

Re: Bad Reputation
I have the post half written up, but I need to reread some of the earlier stuff before I continue with it. I'm going to try to get the FSF/Syn stuff done tomorrow because this weekend totally didn't go as planned, but your post is at the top of my post list after that!

Re: Bad Reputation
I had started my reply, and then I realized: we could very well be done at La Palencia or whatever it's called. Seed more intrigues, or play it straight and timeskip to get Diego sent off towards Semerkhet?

Re: Bad Reputation
Humm, I was going to do detail with the dinner, but I think with Diego's behavior we should skip it and cut back to the mission. Can always pick up the thread of the dinner and what happened/what was said later as necessary and depending on future threads. Agree/disagree?

Re: Bad Reputation
That sounds fine to me
We can even split the threads when Diego heads south, and have separate intrigue and action threads. Part of me really wants to write Eluira more

Re: Bad Reputation
holy shit we're almost done
I'm going to set up another issue in my next post for a third potential thread split (one that could more closely involve Eluira), but unless diego has more stuff to add I think we can actually end this in two more posts.
edit - actually, if you're ok with diego leaving the room I can just add it to my current post and you can end the thread with diego leaving for qadis?

edit 2 - or we can do the battle for Guiomar's inheritance and I can leave the lead-in for another thread. SO MANY IDEAS. I am going to work on bertran at lunch today so we can follow up the magethief thing and finally get marcella into play (I am so slow).
