Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
"..." Drayel stared at her with cold eyes, forcing his face to remain neutral as he towered over the baker woman. It took a couple of snorted breaths before he let out a low growling rumble, his eyes flashing a mere moment as he spoke. "I leave. Until later Miss Idris."
With that he stiffly stepped around her, pulled off his apron and put it on top of the counter and all but stormed out the bakery door. As he passed the old man again, he was sure to glare at him with as much fury as he could muster before moving on with a quicker pace. He didn't care, he was pissed off.
He'd known what he said as rude but he didn't regret a damned word. All he wished to see was if the man ran or not. If he stood still, if he defended then it meant that he couldn't have been the thief. He'd not of ran at the screaming cat nor would he have robbed the bakery in the first place. If he did, then he was a suspect. Yet ever so fierce Miss Idris stepped in the way and ruined his investigation with a hearty slap. He grimaced as he rubbed his jaw with a hand, pausing for a moment to flex it with a wince.
She had a pretty good hand on her Drayel was irritated to find out, and used the palm of her hand when she slapped. Good thing too or she'd have cut his face and he'd nearly lost his temper with just a palming. He growled darkly as he marched onward towards another bakery.
May as well use his frightening fury while it lasted and see if he couldn't scare some answers out of the other bakers. Not that he really wanted to but what in hell else was he going to do? He growled darkly again, not noticing the little boy perched quietly on a nearby wall.
"Pah!" Drayel fumed as he came to a stop and clenched his fists as his temper finally blew out with a loud roar."DAMN WOMEN!"

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Talia flipped her hair angrily as Drayel left, acting as though she did care what he did or thought. Although after have was gone she started to regret what she had done, maybe because her hand stung a bit from the slap she had given. She really hadn't mean to his the guard so hard.
Maybe I went a bit overboard, she thought sadly. Oh well, what done is done and he is gone now so it's not like I can do anything about it. After all it's still a bit more before closing time.
She sighed as she walked over to the stool that often sad behind the storefront counter. Leaning over she rested her elbows on the counter and put her slightly flushed face in her hands. Was this day ever going to get any better?
Time didn't seem to pass quick enough for Talia but eventually the shop was closed. All but one loaf remained from today's work, not too bad. She checked all the doors twice before heading up to he living quarters. She was in much need of a shower for while she had managed to brush the access of it off she could tell that some of it had managed to fall into her clothes and were settling in areas that she would rather not have flour lingering.
She gazed around her room, her eyes quickly latching onto her open window. Walking over to it she pulled it closed. She would have to talk to Vadim about getting a lock for it. The door to her small balcony had a lock but her window did not. And it never really bothered he since she lived on the second floor but after all this drama it would probably be best to be safe rather then sorry.
In just a few seconds Talia had striped, put her clothes aside for washing and was standing in her small shower. Using a honey, lemon wash that she had made she scrubbed her hair hard to try to rid it of the flour that was lodged in there. With hair as long as hers it took a while and then it was time to scrub the rest of herself down.
It took a little longer then she would have liked, but eventually she stepped out of the shower and went to go grab some clothes from the closet. She sighed as she realized that this would be the third time today the she had changed.
Choosing a deep green dress she slipped in on, tied her belt on and slipped her mothers' necklace into the front of the dress. It was times like these that she was happy that she had it on a longer chain, for while this dress wasn't a low cut, the neckline did cut deeper then normal for her. Bepa had got it for her in an attempt to get Talia to go out more, or feel more confident to go out with some of the local men. It wasn't Talia's favourite dress but she had few options left since most of her other clothes were waiting to be washed as well.
Slipping on her shoes she tied her hair in a simple low hanging ponytail that would help it to dry faster then in a braid. She decided to walk down the stairs and wait for one or both or the men to return. It wasn't long before Talia hear a knock on the door and cautiously, but hopefully opened the kitchen door.

"Hey darlin'!" Shade grinned as he held out the bag of flour. He beamed up at her with the look of pride, like he'd just earned her a medal and brought it home just for her. That is, until he saw her wet hair and rather gloomy expression. Frowning he lowered the bag again with a sharp frown. "What's wrong? Did you run into trouble again? Get robbed?"
Now he pushed inside and took a couple sharp sniffs, putting the bag of flour on the counter as he gave the place a look over. Different smells but no blood. He smelt fear though, and anger. Drayel's anger to be exact. He sighed, pulling off his shirt with one easy tug before tucking it in his pants pocket. He began kicking off his boots as he let out a low grunt.
"I don't know what he did exactly." Shade said grimly as he wrestled with his footwear. "But I'm pretty sure it wasn't pretty, the big oaf. Can you look after yourself for a little longer while him and I have a bit of a chatter? Idiot needs a good talking to sometimes."
"I'll take that as a compliment." Drayel growled as he appeared in the doorway as well, his eyes still narrowed and cold. He glanced between the two of them for a moment before his eyes settled on Talia. "I came to make sure the dog showed up. I'll be here in early morning by the time you open up. Good evening and Shade? Don't strip in front of ladies. It is inappropriate."
With that Drayel shot Shade a tight smile before nodding his goodnights and walking back out the door as quietly as he'd arrived. Shade watched him go for a moment before glancing at Talia, boot still in his hand. He chuckled weakly before putting it back on.
"Well, I dunno what you did but you sure pissed him right off."

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
When Talia opened the door to the shifter she couldn't help but let her face drop. She was hoping that it would be Drayel and she could have at least apologized for her rash behaviour. She should have shown more respect for the guard who had been helping her out all day after all.
Ushering Shade in she stared in shocked silence as he started to take of his clothes in her kitchen for the second time today. She was about to explain what had happened when Drayel snuck into the room. Her face had lite up until she saw that he was still angry. With a few short sentence he was silently storming out again before Talia could get a single word out.
"I slapped him." She practically snapped as she glared in the direction the Drayel had headed. "And dammit I wish I could do it again! That over-bearing, angry, son of a...." Talia's voice trailed off before she said something inappropriate for a lady. Instead she chose to stamp her foot and flip her hair in contempt.
"We'll, no bother, that man is gone now, so I guess it just leaves us to scheme, hmm?" Talia added a couple small logs, that Drayel had chopped earlier that day, to the smouldering coals in the oven. A cup of tea would calm her down.
"Would you like some tea or coffee?" Talia asked Shade as she busied herself around the kitchen. "Now I am going to work on tomorrow's bread dough and mostly likely I will head upstairs to bed, for a lack of better things to do and since I have to be up so early. I am guessing your job doesnt officially start until around 7:30 or 8 when I wrap hp here and head upstairs? Your are welcome to relax at the table there until then." She turned around and smiled at him. Might as well enjoy the company that she did have an not worry about that annoying man anymore.
"Now I know Drayel told you to stay outside, but I really don't mind if you would rather remain indoors. As long as you remain downstairs of course. The nights are still cold and I would feel bad if you got cold while doing all this work for me." She was giving this offer both because she really didn't like the idea of anyone spending a night outside, especially because of her, but also because she felt a little bit spiteful towards Drayel. She had been willing to apologize and everything and instead of giving her a chance to explain, he had left her alone with a half naked shifter!

"I'd love to stay love, but alas I can't. Drayel said no." Shade clicked his tongue but went and sat at the table anyway. "Coffee by the way, please and thanks. You say ya slapped the stick-in-the-mud? What for? Did he made a grab at ya (not that I could see him doin' that of course)? I mean, you don't seem like the tempermental kind of gal so, what's up?"
Shade smiled up at her as he leaned back, preparing to listen for a rant of some kind as he eyed the bread on the table. Glancing up he hummed, watching as she fitzed around the kitchen like a wife in her own home.
Drayel
This was getting ridiculous. He walked his way home with a dark frown, growling a little as he tried to think up a way to apologize. He wasn't good with words, not now or ever. He'd come up with something vaguely along the lines of 'I apologize for my behavior but the old man deserved it' or perhaps even 'I didn't like his eyeball twitchings' but the second he saw Shade, his apologetic mood vanished into one of irritation again. He was trying to apologize and the stupid dog popped up again.
"Enough of today." Drayel grouched as he kicked open the barrack door and huffed in exhaustion. "Tomorrow I'll need to fix this... crap. Tonight however, I sleep."

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Talia opened emptied the old pot of coffee from this morning and set about to make another. She paused for a moment trying to think how to explain what had transpired between Drayel and her. She shrugged her shoulders, "We'll I guess the stress of the day just got to me." She said sheepishly. "Drayel threatened a sweet old man, one of my regulars, and well....I guess I have a strong working policy and I just snapped."
The kettle whistled and she made herself a cup of tea before pouring Shade some coffee. Sitting at the table she slid the coff cup over to Shade and took a sip of her tea. Already she could feel herself start to relax. She'd give herself a minute before going back to work. After all, she wasn't baking the bread tonight, just making the dough and it wasn't all that hard.
"Help yourself to some of the bread." She offered, having noticed him eyeing it up earlier. "If you like I can make up a sandwich to go with that thermos I promised you. You might as well finish the coffee because I will be up all night if I have even a sip at this point." She giggled a bit thinking about the first, and last, time she had foolishly had coffee too late in the day.
Peering over her tea cup Talia tried to get a look at this shifter sitting across from her without him noticing. She wouldn't mind knowing about this man who was going to be snooping around her house while she slept.
Oh well. She drained the rest of her tea and got up to start working, aware of the feeling of Shade watching her do her little dance around the kitchen as she flit arund grabbing everything that she needed for her baking.

"Yeah got mad at Drayel then eh?" Shade mused as he took a good swig of his coffee. "I'm gonna guess ya slapped him pretty hard too judging by that red mark that's still on his cheek. Wonder why he was tryin' to spook the old man... Aw, probably to test his reaction the stupid git."
"As for that sandwich, I'd love it." Shade purred as he leaned on the table with his head in his palm, watching her with a twitch of his lip. "I tend to get hungry rather quick. Coffee too. Have to keep awake after all and it isn't easy for a dog to stay outside."
He yawned before taking another swig. He made a face but said nothing, instead reaching for the loaf of bread with a hum. Tearing it in half with his hands he placed on half back on the plate and began to munch on the one he had. He grinned up at her with chipmunk cheeks.
"So Ma'am, how was your day?"

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Talia had finished measuring all the ingredients into several separate bowls and proceeded to oil her hands to keep the soon-to-be-sticky dough off her hands. "I honestly didn't mean to hit him that hard you know." She said to him over her shoulder.
There, one bowl down, four to go. Of course she turned around and jokingly glared at Shade. "For the second time...it's not ma'am!" She rolled her eyes. "You can call me Miss Idris or simply Miss if you prefer to be more formal. Most people just call me Talia. Ma'am is for older woman and I have not reached that point yet!" She gave a firm nodd for emphasis before turned back to her work.
"As for my day, I am sure you know just as well as I do how it went." She suppressed a shudder by putting a little more force then necessary into finishing up the batch she was on. She sighed a little as she took a break for a minute and leaned against the counter, smiling at Shade who was munching on the bread that she had cut into at lunch.
"And what about you Mr. Shade? How was your day? I thought you would need to be rescued from those cougars like Drayel did today but surprisingly you handled them quite well." She raised an eyebrow at him. Much like Drayel she was finding this man, shifter, hard to read at first. Although for different reasons. Getting along with the old ladies implied that he was on the flirtatious (to put it nicely) side but so far he had been an average gentleman. She turned back to her work but worked on an angle so it would be easier to hear Shade talking and she could easily take a look at him if need be.
maybe this is why my slap hurt Drayel so much Talia though as she stared down at the last of the dough she was kneading. It was true that bakers often had decently strong arms, if they worked with bread that was. You had to have them if you were making about 20 loaves of bread every day. Not to mention buns and other goodies.
As Shade talked to she rolled the dough out of the bowls and covered them with damp cloths so that they wouldn't get crusty. Washing the bowls out was her last task and then she would share a cup of tea with Shade before making him a little goodie basket and finally crawling into bed. She looked at the clock, she would easily be in bed by 8:00, a good time but a little later then her average day, but what could she expect considering how the day had gone?

"Not bad. The woman of the house demanded I get a job so here I am." Shade mused as munched on the bread with a hum. "Been workin' odd jobs for a while see, and not a lot of people in town are lookin' for a guard dog. At least, not like me. As for those charmin' ladies I simply took in stride what they had to offer and gently pursuaded them to turn their interests the other way. Tis a skill ya learn when you run on the road."
Shade grunted happily as he took the last bite of his bread and grumbled in thanks. Swallowing it down proved a bit difficult do to the size of bite he had so he threw his head back and guzzled the last of his coffee. Licking his chops he peered over at her with an almost amused expression on his smug face.
"You seem rather curious about me. Anything else you'd like to know or would you like to get to know me better... eh?" Shade lowered his voice into a husky purr as he watched her from beneath his lashes. "What would you say Mrs. Talia?"

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Talia was confused at Shades contradicting statements. So there was a woman if the house? A wife or girlfriend then! Yet she was okay with him allowing himself to be sexually harassed by old ladies? What was this world coming to if that was an actual relationship....
She shook her head and decided not to judge, after all, she didn't really know what was going on and she wasn't sure she wanted to.
She decided to make up the midnight snack for Shade first, that way she could have her relaxing tea and simply drift off to sleep afterwards. It was a simple fare, just bread, meat and some cheese along with several cookies she like to keep hidden for snacks throughout the day and a random apple she had found that was still nice and crisp. Add the remainder of the coffee and that was that. Placing the basket by the door she resisted the urge to pull her knees up to her chest while sipping her tea at the table.
She practically spewed out her mouthful of hot tea when she heard Shade's implications. True it had taken her a little while to react. Lack of male relationships and sleep had made her a little slow at understanding what Shade was really saying, if she even got it right that is.
oh creators, what do I do? she started freaking out inwardly but tried to come across calm and cool outwardly. "What about the 'lady of the house'? And I'm sure Drayel would love you to be fooling around while on the job." She rolled her eyes.
"Anyways," she continued quickly, staring into her cup to avoid eye contact and attempting to hide the blush that was creeping from the back of her neck to her cheeks. "You mistook my curiosity. It's not often I run into a shifter as well as the fact that its polite to make small talk with guests. And since you are going to be guarding my establishment and home, I would rather not be on your bad side." She grinned and ventured a look up hoping that he had stopped looking at her in that way and would cease using that voice. For even though she had no interested in some dog-type shifter, any girl would find it hard to refuse all that for long, especially one with so little experience with men.
She looked up towards the stairs wondering how she could subtly excuse herself to go to bed without making it sound like an invitation to follow her.

oh creators, what do I do? she started freaking out inwardly but tried to come across calm and cool outwardly.

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Drayel lay on his cot, eyes open as his muscles remained tight and his tired brain refused to stop working. He felt like something was wrong, like he was missing something and it was something disastrous. He frowned up at the creaking ceiling, trying to understand what his hunch was telling him.
Talia perhaps? That is the only thing I've done today and last night I was fine but why? Shade is with her after all. Nobody would be able to sneak in there without his noticing. He may be a pervert but he's a good guard dog-....Pervert. Drayel jerked upright in his bed as his eyes shot to the window. Shade was a pervert and he left the idiot alone with a female. Alone. When he probably hasn't had a woman in over a year. He never said anything about before Talia kicked him out, no rules what so ever.
"DAMMIT!" Drayel shouted as he scrambled out of the bed and hastily grabbed a pair of boots, shoving them on his feet as he cursed his own stupidity. Grabbing his sword out of habit he hopped on one foot as he forced on the other boot and tried half asleep to rush out the door. What he hadn't realized until he was out the door was the fact he'd forgotten a shirt. Uncaring he charged through the streets, hoping he could make it in time to stop Talia from falling under that idiot's charm.
-----
Shade
"Come now, no need to be so shy." Shade chuckled as he leaned once more on his palm with a playful grin. " 't's just you and me! Nobody needs to play hard to get eh?"
He let loose a low growl that didn't sound angry but more of a teasing. He leaned forward a little as his voice lowered to a deep husky hum, lips curling up in a seducing smirk. He turned his charm on full as he chuckled deeply and gave her a slow wink before standing and groaning, stretching hard in a show of his muscle. He peered down at her and gave her his lady killer smoulder.
"Why be shy... hmm?"

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Saying this was a little more then Talia was used to was an understatement. Sure the occasional man would flirt with her when they came to buy bread but she always took it as a joke more then actual interest.
She gulped the tea she had in her mouth but was unable to suppress a shiver that shook her body. She couldn't tell if it was from fear or excitement, but she was certainly getting goosebumps from the whole ordeal.
i shouldn't have looked up she scolded herself when she found herself unable to look away for the smouldering eyes...mouth...body...whoah there girl! she shouted at herself.
"Umm....I'm not being shy?" She finally managed to get out, although it seemed more of a question then the refute she was hoping it to be. The shifter started to slowly walk the couple steps toward her.
A warning thought popped in her mind. Don't let him come any closer! If he touches you chances are neither of you will be letting go anytime soon! Talia had intended on leaping up out of her seat, maybe declare something before running up the stairs but somehow something went wrong, yet again.
Instead of standing up her chair had fallen backwards, with her in it. Letting out a sharp shriek as she fell she closed her eyes for the impact on the floor but instead she found herself caught in the warm, and certainly well muscled arms of Shade. The chair had clattered loudly to the floor without her in it. Although with how close Shade's face was to her own she half wished she was lying prone on the floor as well.
Of course not a moment later someone barged into the kitchen causing Talia to shriek again before she realized it was only Drayel....without his shirt?!

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
"PUT HER DOWN!" Drayel roared as he thundered in and bared his fangs, his skin slick with sweat and his breath heaving. Shade's eyes bulged as he cowered, putting her gently on the floor before shuffling backwards in a hunched posture. Drayel's nostrils flared as he stepped over Talia without a glance down, his fury unhindered as he cornered the wide eyed shifter. "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING DOG?!"
"I'm not a dog and I wasn't doing anything! Just flirted a bit is all!" Shade snapped halfhearted as he dropped his eyes in a posture of submission. Drayel gave out a loud barking noise, yelling nothing in particular as he stepped closer with clenching fists. Alarmed Shade dropped lower to the floor until he practically crouched. "I mean it! I didn't do anything! No harm done to her, look!"
"Get out." Drayel seethed. "Guard the front, guard the back. I don't give a damned but enter this house and I will show you why your wolf see's me as Alpha. MOVE!"
Shade yelped as he scrambled around Drayel, grabbing both coffee and lunch with a quick swipe before bounding out the door again. Drayel stomped after him, slamming the door hard just inches from the shifter foot. He growled in disgust before turning and looking down at Talia, his eyes softening as he came to her side and crouched.
"I... apologize on behalf of my stupidity." Drayel said gravely as he offered her his hand. "I'd forgotten of his woman catching skills until just a while ago. I doubt he'd do anything without your consent but... he does have his...charms. Are you alright? Did anything happen? Can you stand perhaps?"

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Talia was still shaking a bit as she gladly accepted Drayel's hand. Although as soon as she stood up she let go and leaned against the table behind her. She gave a nervous chuckle before gasping out. "Don't be....don't be too hard on him. It wasn't what it looked like." She blushed scarlet as she thought about what it probably looked like to Drayel when he burst thought the door.
"Honestly, I stood up too fast and the shifter, I mean Shade, caught me from falling with my chair. Not that he wasn't using those charms you mentioned before hand." She quickly added, she didn't want to seem like she was defending the guy. Although she didn't want to see him punished for something he hadn't done....yet.
She didn't think her face could get more red, which was a good thing because she hated to think what would have happened if Drayel hadn't come in when he did. She suppressed the desire to hug him as thanks for saving her from a possibly regrettable situation.
She sighed heavy, she had been holding her breath for half of the whole ordeal. Offering Drayel what she hoped was a reassuring grin, she batted her eyes to blink back the tears that were starting to well up in her eyes. She was not going to get all emotional in front of this man. "Im sorry for slapping you, I over reacted." she managed to mumble out. "I'm going to go to bed now? Thanks for rescuing me."
Talia stifled a yawn. She was exhausted and the day had not gone very well at all. If she could just get to bed everything would be all right.

Re: Baker, Baker, Where Are Your Buns?
Drayel knew she was upset, and he wasn't sure why. He just knew if he let her up those stairs without fixing the issue he'd made that neither of them would get any sleep tonight. So, without much thought he reached over and gripped her shoulders with steady but firm hands.
"What's wrong?" he asked firmly as he lowered his head to try and meet her eyes. He wasn't good with words, he wasn't good with people. Yet he had to try and fix the crap he did. "Miss Idris, be honest with me. What is wrong?"
