Wolfman's Doll
Re: Wolfman's Doll
"I'm alright, no worries." Shade chided as he reached over and patted her head gently. "Takes me a while to wake up is all. Of course, I wish my memory was better so I didn't scare the next ten years off my life. You scared the bajeezers out of me I hope you know."
The last part came out as a jibe as he grinned and gave her hair a gentle tug.
"So, what say you and I look through books? There's gotta be somethin' in here at least semi-useful." He eyed the books like a child eyed medicine. Yucky. "I'll hand you the lighter books and put 'em on the floor, that way if it drops ya wont break yeah?"

Re: Wolfman's Doll
She smiled inwardly and nods her head again, rising to her feet and ready to do some research. It made her feel happy when Shade patted her on the head or teased her. She didn't even mind it when he tugged on her braid. Things like that made her feel more human and less like an object. It was those social interactions with people she missed while Tanya had sad on a shelf or table. It was what some people called being touch-starved.
The doll clinked her hands together and then held her hands out before her palms up, ready to receive the first book. Maybe they might actually find some instances where someone else had had their soul ripped from their body and then their bodies taken. It would be sad if others had to suffer the way she does but it would be helpful insight into what happened to her.

Re: Wolfman's Doll
Searching though words made Shade's head pound. Three books so far and nothing, not even a trace. No soul ripping, no haunted dolls, not even anything about how to do voodoo. He grimaced and face planted after the fourth, driving his face into the pages as if it would help. As expected, it didn't.
"This is ridiculous." his complaint was muffled but still understandable save for the groan that riddled itself within the sentance. "Why can't we just find the stupid witch and beat her up for it? I hate reading!"
He paused for a moment then lifted his head to peer eye to eye with Tanya.
"No offense of course." he rumbled with a quirky smile before flopping his head back on the book and continuing his groaning. "Why make books?! Nobody reads them unless their desperate anyway!"

Re: Wolfman's Doll
Tanya watches Shade and tilts her head to the side as she thinks carefully, trying to call up her last memory of being human. What exactly transpired that made her soul get ripped out of her? Holding the thought in her mind, she strokes Shade's cheek comfortingly as she plays it over in her mind, not knowing she was sharing it with him. What she couldn't identify was what that potion actually did to her since it didn't touch her skin or ingest it. She thought over the altered spell that she had used but there was nothing there that would have done anything. It was to preserve life, not rip it out of someone.
Then an idea struck her and she started flipping through the pages of the book she had been looking through back to the index. When she finds what she was looking for, she waved her hand at Shade to get his attention. What if that potion was meant to be breathed in? Tanya had been kneeling right next to the plant when she had poured the strange smelling concoction onto it. She must have breathed in enough fumes for it to take affect on her! The words that she had read that had given her the idea was 'Weaving Perfume Lore' in the index.

Re: Wolfman's Doll
Seeing Tanya go haywire made Shade blink as she pointed and waved at the book. Straightening he twisted to read the words, frowning when he saw what she was pointing at.
"Weaving Perfume Lore?" He frowned as he flipped to the page and leaned in, reading it over with furrowed brows. "Are you sure? I mean, you smelled it in not drank it, right? Didn't touch your skin either? You're positive?"
Shade was beginning to feel like Drayel when he caught suspects. Shade grimaced. Dammit, he needed to find a chick and fast or else he'd be a stick in the ass before next year came around. He sighed at the mere thought of it.
"So.... what now? we found it?"

Re: Wolfman's Doll
She nodded her head when Shade asked if she was sure she had only breathed it in and not ingested or touched it then made the so-so gesture with one of her hands when he asked if they had found it then. Looking around her, she made the gesture for writing, wanting to better communicate with him instead of trying to make the poor man try and guess her thoughts. They were getting somewhere now and it excited her even if they hadn't yet found the potion or the reason.
At least she knew that it was a perfumed type potion. That should give them something. Not many weavers were around and even less did their practice for evil. At least that was the case back when she had been fourteen and human. She prayed that it was still the case and there wasn't a boom n the demand for weavers.

Re: Wolfman's Doll
"More paper eh? I should just give you a page or two to stuff in your pocket." Shade mused as he once aain went on the hunt for her paper and pencil. Not that it took long to find of course. "Here, have this then."
Snorting a little he returned to look over the book and its long complex words of headachism. He made a face before rolling his eyes and sighing, scratching his belly as he looked almost thoughtfully at nothing. The words turned into foreign symbols for a moment while his head refused to concentrate any more. He sigh irritably.
"Damned witches are no good if ya ask me." Shade grumbled. "Enchanters are alright but witches.... never met a good one yet I haven't, and I've seen quite a few. If they took your body though....why? Why need a corpse? To soul switch maybe?"

Re: Wolfman's Doll
Tanya grabbed the paper and then the pencil but when Shade had said 'soul switch' she had froze in mid motion, the pencil's tip just above the paper. She knew what he meant for her mother had told her stories of the body thieves and other supernatural stories at the fireside during winter. Her mother told her about the green man, the woodwives, brownies, will-o-the-whisps, lamia, and of course the body thieves. The doll's eyes looked up at Shade for a moment before she started to write.
'My mother told me old stories about body thieves and other things. I thought they were just stories to scare children during the winter months. Something just for fun. It makes sense though. I am still a living soul, I'm not dead so that means my body is still alive somewhere right? Only way for a body to stay alive is with a soul so that old hag will be walking around in a 24 year old me...'
She dropped the pencil and buried her face in her hands, her body shaking with silent sobs and wept dry tears. This whole time she had been stuck in this doll's fragile body, some vile woman was parading around inside her body that had her mother's heart shaped face, her father's dark hair, and the eyes of a grandmother she had never met who had once owned the doll she inhabited now. Her body had grown and developed without her and who knows what that hag had done to her body in the ten years she had it in her possession.
She felt ill to her very core, cheated, violated, and below it all she felt the first stirrings of burning hatred. Never had she truly hated anything in her life but now... She felt hatred for the one responsible for shredding her life to pieces. Her body continued to shake with her sobs and she started to gently rock herself back and forth. Why? Why did this have to happen to her? Never had she done anything wrong in her life at least not bad enough to deserve this. It wasn't fair... It just wasn't fair!

Re: Wolfman's Doll
When Shade heard the clink of a pencil he looked up, startled to see the young doll rocking back and forth while clutching her head. Painful dispair hit him in a wave, anxiousity, then finally a deep belly of hatred. His breath caught when he realized what he'd said, forgetting that the child within that doll was still just a child and what words he'd said to her. He cursed his mouth.
"C'mere." Shade chidded as he reached over and picked up the doll gently, warping her firmly in his arms as he cooed quietly in her ear. Rocking her gently back and forth, he hummed a low lullaby he'd heard as a child. He hadn't even thought about it, just held her close. He was responsible for every shudder that came from the doll, ever twitch of pain and now the growing hatred. He winced. "Hey now, no more of these tears. It's a good thing she has that body or else it would've starved and died. You would be dead. As much as I don't like the idea of her having your body either, I think it's good that at least she's keeping it alive. Yeah?"

Re: Wolfman's Doll
The doll willingly went into his arms and hugged Shade around his neck, her hands gripping his shirt as she continued to cry. What he said made sense and her hatred subsided as her sorrow and feeling of being wronged drowned it out. Either way she looked at it, that witch was still living in her body, one that she had stolen from a fourteen year old Tanya. Maybe the fact she was alive had been a complete accident. The old woman had done something to cast her aside. That was what threw Tanya into a panic and reach for the doll.
Listening to Shade sing to her, she relaxed as her sobbing subsided. The antique doll held onto more gently with her head on his shoulder. The blue of the doll's eyes seemed to shine with unshead tears but that could have been a trick of light on the china paint. Somewhere out there was her real body and one day she would get it back and make that horrible person pay.

Re: Wolfman's Doll
Shade pondered as he continued to hold onto the little doll. What was he going to do? Where to take her? He couldn't leave the city, so where would he find a way to help her? He could take her to the university but... what if? What if they took her as an experiment, or worse a threatening object? They'd kill her they thought her dangerous.
He wasn't good at planning, he wasn't good at it at all and now that he was forced to he really wished he knew how to plan well. Where would he go now? His shoulders slumped as he continued to brood. What to do...What to do..... Lucy and Rebbecca didn't believe him so not many others would he doubted.
Holding onto the doll he hesitated before leaning back and glancing at the window.
"Who do we ask for help?"
