Name: Aislinn Vahtees
Age: 25
Race: Human
Height: 5’5’’
Weight: 9’3’’
Physical Description:
Aislinn has ivory skin, rosebud lips, and tilted, almond shaped green eyes. She looks drawn and exhausted, as she doesn’t get a lot of sleep at all. Her eyes are usually bloodshot and she rarely has the energy to smile these days. Her cloak is black velvet with a hood that she normally wears up, to hide her face from strangers. Her dress is slightly frayed at the bottom, a deep blue with a black belt, and on her blistered feet are black worn out boots.
Her lips are blood red and never fading and in sharp contrast to her pale skin. Her hair is as dark as her eyes, shimmering like black silk, flowing un-braided and untamed down her back. She is small and lean, but deceptively strong. She is elegant hands, small and dexterous, enchanting and graceful…flutist’s hands. Her age is hard to place as she appears travel worn and weary.
Possessions: She has a travel bag, a satchel she wears over her shoulder, that contains an ivory brush, whatever money she has earned, and her flute. A spare cloak and clothes and suede, worn boots.
Powers & Strengths:
Aislinn is a talented flutist. Her melodies sooth the soul and open the mind to memory and wonder.
Her only power is she can see visions of the future. Sometimes they come to her awake, sometimes in her dreams. Normally her premonitions are of bad things, deaths, accidents, bad luck. Whatever she see’s in a vision always comes true, something she refers to as a 'True Seeing'. She counts this more a weakness then a strength. The power first manifested itself ten years ago, and she was driven out of her home because of it.
She is a mentally strong person, very adaptable and accepting of any situation and anybody. She doesn’t judge and is very kind and considerate, and perhaps sometimes too trusting. Aislinn is normally very calm and serene, but she can be quick to anger if in a hurry though. She is a quiet woman, always observing and only asking a question that is pertinent. Very observant and always trying to figure out whose fate she has doomed before the vision comes true…
She is a mysterious lady, never showing her intent, or engaging friendships or even acquaintances. Her face is unreadable; she is stoic and gives little away about how she is feeling or what she is thinking.
Weaknesses:
She is very naïve and can be quite foolish. She trusts when she should run a mile. Years on the road hasn’t taught her much in this respect. She refuses to see anything other then what is good in people. Someday maybe this will turn out to be a strength, but right now, on the road alone and vulnerable, it is very much a weakness.
She never developes long lasting grudges, or dwells on the present, as she is too focussed on the past and the resentment and pain she harbours from there. Also, her gift makes her look to the future, so quite often the present becomes insignificant, except when she is being run out of town, obviously.
Physically, she is quite weak. She doesn't like violence and hates being around fights. She cannot defend herself, which makes her decisions to stay and try and stop the inevitable very foolish indeed. She doesn't even carry a weapon, as she believes carrying one is one step closer to using it.
History:
Her home is far away from the lands she currently finds herself in, the lands of Thar Shaddin. A home she no longer remembers with clarity, except in her dreams, for in her dreams is where all her troubles began...
She had a horrific dream about a man, a man of power and influence. Convinced this dream was true (Aislinn has an innate sense on knowing regarding her visions, she knows they are true, and will come to pass no matter what. Which makes her efforts to stop them even more futile.) she told her parents what she had seen. As disgusted as they were with what she was saying, they took her to the Town Elders and forced her to tell them what she knew. When they asked how she came by this information, she balked, not wanting to reveal it was nothing more then a dream.
Unwilling to go through with an arrest and accusation she was turned away. Her family were shamed, and her parents regretful of their foolishness, Aislinn ashamed. But it did not stop there. The visions become more frequent and the more she told, the more she got a reputation. No longer for a madwoman, but as the cause of these bad things, rather then the means of their discovery. She was forced out by not only her neighbours, but even her family, who had gone from believing in her, to rejecting her.
Running away was easier then it should have been. No one cared she had left, and she was glad to be gone. But her bad luck followed her.
Aislinn is a wanderer, a vagrant. She ran away from home at the age of fifteen and spent the interim years going from Inn to Tavern, earning her way by playing her flute. The flute was given to her by her parents for her 7th naming day and is her only treasure. She does not treasure it because it was from her parents but because it brings her peace of mind and takes her away temporarily from this world that gives her nothing but grief. She cannot remember learning to play it, she has always been able to make beautiful music and play her heart through her flute. She wandered from town to town, never laying down any roots. No one ever got to know her, they never got the chance. If she wasn’t thrown or chased out of town, she fled before anyone linked what was happening to her.
She is a ghost. A spectre; a shadow…
When she plays her flute however, everyone listens. The sound is hypnotic, eerie and compelling. Songs that pull at the heart, so sorrowful and so full of mourning… Yet, the patrons where she plays listen on in rapture, with tears in their eyes, and sorrow in their hearts, watching this forlorn young woman expose her heart through her haunting flute. They cry with her, grieve with her, and leave with a poignant feeling of recognition. The song seems familiar to them, yet they cannot recall having heard it before.
She has not seen her family since the day she left. She does not ever want to return home. Her home is the road now and that's fine with her. She has cut all ties with her past. She is a lost soul and will remain so until she finds a place that will accept her.
She can’t help but try and stop the visions from coming true, and this leads to being blamed for them. She has true visions, to the point where she gets abused for it. People feel she is bad luck, a bad omen, that her gift is evil and brings evil to their door. She is pushed from place to place, and never welcome as more then a one time flutist. Sometimes her reputation precedes her and she is shunned before she even gets to the door.
She has started to believe that she is indeed a bad omen…
