Shade struggled with his mind for what seemed like forever, his eyes blankly staring at a wall as he shoved his head roughly into the grated wall. He needed... he needed to control these urges.... he needed.... he... he wanted.... he wanted to rip that bitch apart. Nobody dared double cross him, not on his turf. That female would learn to respect this male.

You can't hurt her! She's a female! the human half yelled.Don't hurt her or the boy!

They disobey and insult me! They cause termoil in the pack! They will be beaten for their troubles! he roared back as he tore apart a nearby crate. Never will they double cross me again!

I control us! If we kill them, we die too! We gave our word to not harm the boy!

Our word is nothing without the pride to uphold it!

Our word is nothing if we break it! Came the desperate cry. The wolf growled in disgust, irritated with this foolish arguement his human part was putting up. I won't let you shame us.

"Shade?" a deep growling voice made them jump, turning to look in shock at the frowning guardsman. Seeing Shade's face however he went stiff, knowing the crazed look in his eye and what it meant. He grit his teeth as he shifted his stance. "What did you do Shade? Where is the boy?"

Shade roared in response, turning and landing on all fours with a snarl. The wolf had robbed him of his speech.

"You've lost it then? Mad on power or quick on rage?" Drayel spat. "Come on then beast, I'll make you release the man you hold captive in his own damned mind."

Shade shrieked as he made a jerky lunge. Drayel stepped forward, ready to block the blow but to his surprise it stopped halfway through. Another screech released from the large man's lungs but this one wasn't full of rage. Startled Drayel watched as Shade staggered backwards, clutching his head and moaning. He felt pity hit him as he let out a low sigh, dropping the defensive pose to come close. Shade snarled/whined in response.

"I understand Shade." was the firm response as a hand reached up and gripped him by his hair. A firm crack against the back of his skull and black began to take his vision. "Sleep. You've won this battle I should never have let you fight."

Anger. That made sense. She could smell the redness of it on the air emanating from the fox in waves. Anger she could deal with. But the other thing that she sensed from him was much, much worse. Disappointment. Chastisement. Gia couldn't help but cringe slightly - it hit her right in the core of her being. She had done something Wrong. She had been Bad. Even the wolf couldn't stifle a whimper and a flinch, and Gia ducked her head as Kitan scowled at her before running off.

She couldn't just let him go when he was upset with her. Gia was nothing if not persistant and the wolf urged her to follow, to explain, to make him happy with her again. Having people be upset and disappointed in her was the worst. She needed to fix this! Her head came up as she looked after him and had she had a tail, it would have wagged slightly. Fix it!

Chasing him wasn't hard. He was fast, but he left his scent on the air and if she could track a butterfly over rocks she could easily track a fox through a city of humans. She ran along quickly, nose in the air and probably causing people to wonder. But she didn't care - she had to find and fix!

She bumped right into Kitan as she rounded a corner. She ducked her head again and looked away, submissing, apologetic signs. "I'm sorry," she said, trying to keep the whine out of her voice.

She blinked as he apologized as well, and felt the wolf listen close. He was sorry too? But he hadn't done anything except yell at her and he had been right in doing that, because Gia had been Bad. Provoking Shade had probably not been the best idea, but that big wolf was just so stupid... But if Kitan wasn't mad at her anymore, that was good.

Kitan fidgeted nervously around, wondering at Shade’s howl. He also wondered whether or not Gia’s ears had been good enough to hear it. He glanced over her direction and she seemed placated by his apology. He wondered if she would be willing to cooperate with a harebrained scheme he had just created.

The kitsune lifted his hand slightly as an ambiguous gesture of conversation. “Uh, so we weren’t exactly fair to Shade either. I think we should find him and try to fix all this.” His ears flicked about, fluttering like a wingle beat of a hummingbird’s wings. “I heard him in...” He pointed “...that direction. Do you think you could smell him out?”

Drayel growled as he trudged through the alley's, grunting and huffing as he lugged the unconscious wolfman on his back. His lip twitched in disgust as the heavy lug groaned in pain yet remained unconcious.

"You're a pain in my ass." Drayel grouched as he gave a blushing female a glare. "Not only have you gained weight since you were a child but your face has gotten harder too. Damn, I think I broke a damn finger."

"Well, your fist has gotten bigger." came the muffled response. "I think my neck broke."

"You're talking, you're breathing, your fine." Drayel answered flatly. "Don't argue with me. I'm hauling your fat ass."

"It's not fat. It's huskily muscular." Shade answered with a growl. "Just because your jealous-"

"Not jealous. Blunt." Drayel intterupted as he shifted the man higher up his back. "Can you walk?"

"No. Carry me like you love me."

"Where should I dump your stupid ass?"

"Oh haha. Hardy har freaking ha ha."

A task! Gia nodded and regretted that she couldn't wag her tail as well. If she found Shade Kitan might not be mad at her. Sure, he said he wasn't, but... but you could never tell. Gia had had plenty of experiences with people who said they weren't still mad and yet they were. And she had heard the howl but, well, Shade wasn't really her problem. If that big wolf was happy enough being collared then he could take his collar and deal with it, and Gia would treat him as inferior and therefore, not her problem.

"I can find him, easy," she assured Kitan. She sniffed the air briefly, then jerked her head down the nearest alley. "This way."

She led the way, letting the wolf take over again and smell out the big male. It was different and harder this time, because she wasn't following a scent left on the ground, but the air was a myriad of scent colors and she could distinctly pick out the big wolf's scent of sweat and panic. She remembered that from the house before he'd crashed out the door - his scent of panic, like everyone's, was so very unique.

Soon enough she found where the wolf had met another man. This one she didn't recognize, but there hadn't been too much of a fight before the new man had started carrying Shade... now that was interesting. She said as much to Kitan before leading on, following the combined scents of the new man and the big wolf.

Her ears picked out a conversation, Shade's voice sounding tired but not upset, or raging, or aggravated, or really even a little annoyed. That was even more interesting. Suddenly something terrible occurred to her - what if that was the man who had collared Shade? She growled a little, pausing in her chase, waiting for Kitan to make the next move. She would follow if the fox led her somewhere, but she would not willingly get close to a man who was capable of taking on Shade and collaring him.

Kitan listened to Gia as she informed him what she had learned. Shade was being dragged? That sort of thing generally implied he couldn’t move on his own, and who was capable of taking down Shade? Kitan suddenly paused. Wait a moment. He put a hand on his head while extending the other slightly, palm to the sky. “How is your sense of smell that good? I don’t know much, but it can’t possibly work like...” He frowned, and then quieted his voice to a mumble. “Oh... Magic. Nevermind.”

He walked forwards and suddenly saw Shade... being dragged. By someone as big as he was. “Drayel!” He chirped excitedly, before stopping himself by remembering how frightening Drayel had been before. At least it was light out now. People were way less scary when you could see clearly.

Well, regardless of intent, he had Drayel’s attention now. “Um... Hi. Shade. And Sir Guard.” He paused awkwardly while he loped his way over to catch up to them. He examined the curious scene with an inquisitive look. “What are you doing?”

"Eh?" Drayel blinked as he turned to see the boy and... a female? He frowned as he narrowed his eyes suspiciously at her before grunting a friendly hello at the boy. "Are you harmed boy? and who are you?" The last question was aimed at the woman. Glancing at Shade who remained silent he raised an eyebrow. "Anybody I should know of?"

"Shut up." Shade spat as he tensed and turned his face away from the two. "What the hell do you two want?"

"..." Drayel glanced at the boy and woman with a growing frown on his face. Then with a dry grunt he partially drag Shade in the direction they headed anyway. "Talking such way to a woman is unbecoming Shade."

"Shut it tincan."

"Only when you learn to keep your temper." Drayel answered flatly. "Honestly, the amount of times I've helped your stupid ass out is getting out of hand."

Drayel sighed though as he lowered his voice, dragging his boots a bit to scuffled out his words. "Did the boy cause you're little episode or was it the female?"

"The bitch."

"..." Drayel stopped dead in his tracks, staring ahead at nothing for a mere moment before letting Shade. The wolfman yelped as his rear thumped against the ground and he glared at Drayel, prepared to yell until he saw the gleam in his eye. Thinking, processing, plotting, working out the kinks..... Turning he glanced back at the little group and cleared his throat. "Boy! Watch Shade if you don't mind, I believe the lady and I need a chatter in private."

"Keep your nose out of it! This isn't your business!" Shade snapped as he struggled to get to his feet. Drayel glanced down at him and with a none-to-gentle kick to the gut forced him down again.

"You made this my business when you asked to get your collar disactivated." Drayel answered coldly. "Now, as usually I clean up the mess you've created. Ma'lady? A quick moment this way. I haven't much time between hauling this sod around and patrols."

Kitan knew the man that was carrying Shade and that made Gia both relieved and even more wary. She did not want anything to do with someone who could knock her out and collar her, but Kitan ran up to the man like they were old friends.

"I am Gia," she responded quietly to the man's question, though since he immediately turned back to Shade she didn't know if he'd caught that or not. This man had the same attitude towards the big wolf Lucy had had, though Lucy had been slightly more amusing to watch.

Gia observed the two men as they conversed, then blinked as Shade called her a bitch. Well, it was the truth though it had clearly been meant as an insult. Gia had never seen it that way though, and so she merely shrugged it off. She watched as this man kicked Shade to keep him down, no mean feat she was sure, and resolved to be very, very polite with him. Oh sure, she could probably outrun him, but she couldn't outrun a silver tipped arrow, or a wolfpit lined with silver stakes, or a net laced with silver. No, all in all it was better to just try to get along with people in power. And be very, very nice to them.

She followed the man hesitantly, especially when he made the comment about Shade's collar. So he did have something to do with that! Gia stifled a small whimper and gulped, head low as she trailed him. She didn't let herself stammer out apologies - she had that much self-control, at least - though it was really tempting. If she just promised to be good nothing bad would happen, right? Then again, he didn't know she was a shifter... though nothing bad seemed to be happening to Kitan... Gia couldn't smother her whimper this time.

Kitan sat there, his lips drawn tight as he watched Shade sit there on the road. Gia had wandered off the chat with Drayel, leaving the two of them to talk.

Unfortunately, Kitan couldn’t think of what to say. He stood there, creating an awkward silence broken only by the chirping of a pair of sparrows flittering about the rooftops.

“Um, we came to apologize.” He said. He didn’t know what else to say. His stomach disagreed, and began loudly voicing itself. He frowned at the rumbling, an did is best to proceed while ignoring it. “Sorry about what happened back there.” Kitan was struck by the sudden realization that he didn’t really know why Shade had exploded like that, other than Gia was involved somehow. Maybe he should change the subject. “What happened after you ran out?” Maybe talking things over would help calm Shade down.

Shade glared at him, his lips twitching as he showed anger at the boy. Truthfully, he was stunned the boy even came near him anymore let alone hunted him down. It was embarrassing that he got caught getting dragged around by Drayel of all people. Still... his growl softened a little as he dropped his shoulders and stared at him wearily. The boy had courage, and good heart. He should be the one to apologize...

"You hunted after a werewolf who was going to tear you and another werewolf apart not even an hour ago? You're stupider then I'd thought." Whoops, that came out wrong again. He grit his teeth and glared at his own clenched fist, trying to force down the choked feeling in his throat to say what he wanted. "T-thanks though. For comin' to look...."

He turned his face away with a blush to glare at nothing but the alley where Shade took Gia. Damn he wasn't good at this....

"I...I still think you`re a dumb ass though! Dont go for something that you don't have a damn chance of surviving against!" Oh well. Close enough.

Drayel

"Now, I may be just meeting you but I've known Shade nearly all our lives." Drayel started as soon as they were out of earshot from the two shifters. "He may be arrogant, quick tempered and over all an idiot but he wouldn't go beserker unless there was a damn good reason, especially around females."

He gave her a sharp look to show he wanted truth, no lies. He damn well wanted to know what happened and none of the 'he did, she did' crap either. So, he glared down at her with cold eyes and tight lips.

"What did you do to Shade?"

Wouldn't a male wolf go crazy around females and want to show his strength? Gia didn't understand, but this big wolf was clearly damaged somehow, be it through physical trauma or mental, and so Gia knew she couldn't count on Shade to actually be a thinking creature. He was collared, after all. And willingly, not least of all! And this might have even been the man who'd done it!

Gia forced herself to be calm, though not before letting out another whimper. She was scared, and what was worse, the wolf was scared too. Now this man knew her face. He could list her, tell the guards to keep an eye out for her, and then she'd be forced away from the city and never be able to find the shadow priest. And then word might even get back to Master Bela - no. No, that would not be good.

"I just asked about his collar," Gia whispered, keeping her eyes averted in a show of submission. "I was just curious."

Kitan wasn’t sure what to say. This was actually kind of pitiable. Had Shade been drinking? How could he have possibly gotten drunk in that amount of time? He raised one eyebrow while squinting the opposite eye. The kitsune’s confusion must surely have shown in his expression.

“Uh,” Kitan blurted, perhaps attempting to break the silence by making any noise possible. “Okay. Glad we got... that... cleared up?” There was another awkward pause. “What now? I guess I should find my bag...”

"Eh? You lost your bag too?" Shade felt his eye twitch as he whacked his head none to gently on the wall. Letting loose a low groan he glanced sideways at the boy. "What is with everybody and losing their bags? What, do I have to say I'm running more errands for a crossdresser?"

Shade let out a low groan, pinching the nerves in his nose in an attempt to keep his thoughts together. Already his skull wracked in pain from too many shifts and Drayel's 'lovetap' to his cranium, so he massaged it in hopes the pulsing with decrease. Dammit....

"Well, no time like the present..." Shade grunted as he forced himself to his feet, his eyes rolling slightly as his skull spun. "Ugh... C'mere. Looks like you're gonna have to be a balancing post...."

He raised an arm as a sign before giving a grimace. "Damn, never wanted a male under my arms. Still, between you and the she-wolf I'd choose you in a damn heartbeat. Bloody hag outta get a lesson in when to keep her damn mouth shut."

--_--

Drayel

"His collar?" Drayel blinked as he frowned at the cowering female. "No, that wouldn't tip him off. Something was wrong.... Though, something isn't right with you either. Judging by those actions you seem to be doing, I'm to guess you're a shifter as well. Oi! Don't give me that look. I've been around a wolf-shifter all my life and you aren't subtle about the signs."

Drayel sighed as he crossed his arms and tilted his head, keeping his eyes on the paled woman as he tried to understand what was going on. Three shifters and a guard meet in a slimy back alley near a tavern.... this was like the start of a stupid drunk joke. He sighed again.

"Tell me what you said, as close to word for word as you can. Maybe I can clear this up with you before... OI! SIT YOUR ASS BACK DOWN! I'M NOT THROUGH WITH YOU!"

Shade

Shade obediently sat back down with a miserable pout.

Stupid guard.

Gia couldn't help but whimper pathetically as the guard guessed. People always knew. She'd never been good about hiding it and usually there wasn't a reason for it but now there was and he knew, he knew, this guard who could wrap her in silver chains and throw her into a cell with silver bars and she'd never see the sunlight or moon again, and it was all for that shadow priest who wasn't even here... The wolf, though disgusted with the human's fear, was also nervous. What if what had happened to the big wolf happened to her as well? She would die before suffering a collar but she didn't want to die.

"Don't collar me," she begged in a whisper, curling in on herself and trying to flatten her ears and tuck her tail. "I'll be good - I'm always good - I don't hurt people or change in the city - I'm looking for someone and I'll leave as soon as I find him - I'm good, I'm good," she moaned, almost hyperventilating. "Don't collar me, please, please - I'll be good - I'm a-always good - no collar..."

The rest of his words had been lost on her after he'd said he'd known Shade his whole life. Who would collar someone they had known their whole life? Better to be dead than collared like a common dog. Gia's pleas and promises trailed off slowly, though she was still breathing rapidly and blinking back tears. She knew she was giving off fear-stink like three day old meat at the butchers and she'd be fair game for any hunters, but right now... right now, the only hunter she cared about was the one in front of her.

Kitan’s confusion only grew. He wasn’t sure how collecting a bad of letters could possibly lead to something like that. He recalled Shade mentioning something about being mistaken for a crossdresser, but it had been when he hadn’t been feeling too great and not really listening to anybody.

“I could just go grab the bag myself,” He mumbled under his breath, “Can’t be far.” But he didn’t feel like contradicting Shade at the moment. In fact, he realized he didn’t foresee ever really being too interested in contradicting Shade. So he took Shade’s arm and began to hobble down the street with him.

It was at this point Drayel barked an order to sit down, and failed to specify names. Kitan was fairly certain he was addressing Shade, but decided not to take his chances and sat down quickly beside the werewolf. The shout drew his attention to the alleyway. Gia looked really scared. He bit his lip, not sure of what to do. After a moment’s deliberation, he decided to keep sitting.
