Seona

Post by Seona » Thu Dec 06, 2012 5:41 am

Name: Seona
Age: Approx. 16
Height: 5’0”
Weight: Roughly 90lbs
Race: Owl Shifter

Physical Descrip:

Seona is a very thin girl – almost to the point of being frail, though she often ignores this or doesn’t realize it as she’s often seen leaping off of roofs, bridges, etc. She’s overly pale – pure white some would say, if not for the dirt – further enhancing her already huge dark blue eyes. Dark blond hair (actually golden blond if it were washed properly) cascades down the girl’s back, ending around her waist. Unfortunately no one can tell for sure as it's raggedly cut, and is matted/knotted in several places. Her only two possessions are the cloths on her back – (a set of black trousers and a now dirt-brown shirt) and her violin and its case.

When she shifts, Seona takes the form of a light-coloured barn owl – one with blue eyes, but one nonetheless. She’s often seen flying over the roof tops of Marn or Shim, carrying her violin case.

Powers:

Shape shifting: Seona can take the shape of a full-sized barn owl with unique blue eyes. She can half-shift, though finds it awkward and so avoids it. While fully shifted Seona can carry semi-light weights due to being slightly stronger than the average barn owl (a perk of being a shifter). She can also see far better in the dark than she ever could as a human, and has a keener sense of both hearing and scent.

Musician: True to her name, Seona is a musician at heart, and truly adores her only possession: her violin. A light little thing, it’s easily carried around when she’s in her owl form, or tucked away and hid while she’s running away from someone or something. That aside, Seona can play the violin beautifully, and can be often caught on the streets at night, playing gentle lullabies or melancholic melodies.

Pick-pocketing: Seona’s only thieving talent, and that’s only because she can partially shift her hand to claws and gently cut the purse-string. Anything harder than that and she’s caught.

Running: Seona has had quite a bit of cardio practice running from guards, other thieves, cats who’ve taken a too keen interest in her, dogs who do the same, other people, the list goes on really…

Hiding: Being so small, Seona can hide pretty well when she wants to, often curling into small balls to avoid being seen or caught.

Light: While it’s not much of an ability, Seona can common her own little “moon” as she puts it, and pull it into strands. Really all she’s doing is summoning a light and controlling it to form ribbons and whatnot that only illuminate. The light cannot bind, cause damage or hurt – it’s just a very pretty lightsource.

Perception: Having nothing holding her back (doubts, previous memories to compare to, etc) Seona is exceptionally perceptive - usually of hidden emotion. Not that this ability helps her in too many ways, as it tends to freak others out before she can get the real meaning behind the emotion.
- Perception's evolved into a low-level empathy of sorts. While unable to read the direct and clear thoughts of those around her, she can 'pick-up' the general gist of their thoughts. These 'readings' are often jumbled and unclear as she picks up multiple 'frequencies' and has difficulty separating one from another. Should she concentrate strongly, however, she can pick out who's feeling what. Issue is, in doing so, Seona activates her headaches. Extended concentration has proven to cause bleeding due to brain trauma that hadn't healed properly. An increase in blood pressure and brain activity 'reopens' or irritates scars in her brain which then causes it to hemorrhage in a sense. This is not fatal as long as Seona passes out before she can do any further damage to her mind, though it serves to slow any future 'reopened' wounds. Multiple 'reopenings' will cause death or turn her into a vegetable or the mental kind.

Singing: While she can't actually use words (properly at least) Seona can 'sing' in the sense that her voice carries tunes beautifully. Often she accompanies her violin, just singing a wordless tune and harmonizing with her violin.

Fast Learner: Being curious from her lack of knowledge, Seona tends to stick her nose in various pies. It's from sticking her nose in less-than-moral pies that she's learned to learn quickly. It's also how she's learned to adapt and can pick up/create spells fairly easily - once she gets past the pain it causes.

Weaknesses:

Silver: Something that often annoys Seona, as when she so much as brushes silver, it burns, and yet its her favourite metal.

Other animals: Unless they’re small rodents, larger animals seem to take a liking to Seona, often chasing her down the streets of Marn for a simple pat on the head. She’s not too fond of them in return as this has often given her several close-calls with the guards.

Daylight: Seona is, by her owlish nature, not a day person. In fact, she obviously prefers the night. Naturally this makes many things (sealing food, pick pocketing, etc) very tricky, and as such, Seona will often go several days without eating unless she hunts for mice.

Memories: Seona has none, or thinks she doesn't. What memories she does has she believes to be fantasies or dreams and refuses to believe they're real. She actually can barely speak, as she doesn't remember being taught to, and has since picked up some basic words from listening to others. Her main forms of communication are touches, gestures and her violin. Also, without her memories, Seona cannot find any family she may or may not have, and as such is completely and utterly alone. This knowledge often leaves her sobbing in a corner in the middle of the day as she tries to sleep.

Innocence: Seona, technically, has never been betrayed, loved, hurt, etc deeply, as she cannot remember anything. Literately it’s as though someone has birthed a 16 year old and tossed her out on the streets with only a set of clothes and a Violin with a name inscribed on it. As such Seona is prone to trusting others fully and without fear, giving anyone leverage to use and possible harm her.

Fear: Seona’s afraid of generally anything that looks threatening. Be it a guard, an old broken down house, a particularly genuine looking play-sword or a grumpy child, Seona will avoid it at all costs and will often hide behind something until the threat is gone.

Storms: She can’t say why – but to this day, thunder storms terrify her to the point of hysteria.

Diet: Even if it's only to survive, Seona is often forced to eat mice - though at a heavy cost. Seona's human intestines are unable to handle the digestion of the mouse bones, fur etc that the owl would normally just spit back up. As such, unless she remains an owl through the digestive process, Seona is violently sick afterwards.

Brain-trauma: While the plank slamming into the back of Seona's head wasn't enough to do anything extremely damaging (ie crippling or killing her) it will permanently effect her; her memory will prove to be faulty at best in the long run, and her speech will always be impaired unless she concentrates and takes her time on the words.

Migraines: For the most part her migraines are offset by over-using her mind or by flashbacks. This proves to make spell casting a chore for her, as well as attempting to remember things and speak properly. However the migraines also tend to come on randomly and can cause Seona enough pain to cause her to black out. (See Brain-trauma for cause)

Flashbacks: While they're not extremely frequent in nature, Seona often has flashbacks. These literately render her immobile and impassive as she completely loses herself to the memory. usually afterwards she will suffer a severe migraine and/or pass out.

History:

What Seona can’t remember, I’ll tell you. Seona was born to a simple fisherman and his wife. She would often sail with her father and learn his trade, keeping him company with her violin and her gentle patience. Her mother was a loving woman, but often remained home to keep their little home clean and prepared for their return.

Then one day a storm hit. They were on the water, the fishing was great, but then the storm rolled in faster than either of them could prepare for. A bolt of lightning hit their little fishing boat – a stroke of bad luck or the will of the Changers, Seona would never know, as she was thrown bodily from the wreck, a plank slamming into her skull and giving her permanent brain damage which would develop into permanent amnesia.

When she awoke, it was to knowing nothing and somehow clinging her prized violin. Not knowing where she was, who she was, or what to do, the girl began to wander – and ended up in Marn. She managed to get someone to read the name on her case – Seona – and determined this must be what she identified herself as.

It wasn’t until later that Seona realized she could shapeshift. At some point, she’d discovered a love of heights, and had climbed up a particularly high building. Once at the top, a dog had barked, startling the girl and causing her to fall. Instinct kicked in at the last moment and an owl flew away carrying a violin case.

Bewildered by her newfound ability, Seona now seeks someone who she can perhaps trust and tell her just who she really is… perhaps even teach her how to speak?
