"Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
The silence was kind to Rhyn's ears. As soon as cooking and cleanup was done, fur rippled over her body once more, her body shifting into her half-form. With her long tail sweeping behind her once more, she ate silently, and let herself relax for a while.
When Soneya's question came to her ears, she looked to Kaevad. He was the one who had decided to take Soneya out. She was just along for the ride. What was the plan?

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Plans? Rarely did Kaevad have a plan. He shifted on the couch, thinking a moment before peering out from his refuge under his arm. "That actually depends on what you'd like to do, love. We can go out around town, talk to the locals, perhaps ask questions. I can take you out flying if you'd like. Rarely is there an actual 'plan' on road trips. Personally I don't have a preference. I might have to borrow you as my err... woman... to avoid... complications." He smiled warily. "If you're comfortable of course."
She should be more then comfortable. I'm lucky she's not terrified of me. Let's not push things. Just mate her and be done with it! Kaevad frowned a moment before growling. "That's not how it works-" cluing in he'd said it aloud, Kaevad blushed. "Dragon half." He explained, embarassed.
It may not be how it used to work, but could be how it works now. Kaevad glared at the ceiling. It's not. He got up with a groan before stretching, his joint popping in place. "So what would you like to do most, love."

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Soneya pondered the choices a little. Flying would be nice, definitely, but she wasn’t sure her – in her eyes – battered body could take it. Plus, she didn’t want to leave Rhyn behind again, even if the woman didn’t seem to mind to have a bit of time off from the two of time once in a while. “Talking to the locals.. well that might be an idea. Could give us the opportunity to learn more about your love interest,” she winked at him, purposefully twisting the situation.
At the mention of him borrowing her as his ‘woman’ however, she grew a little uncertain. “I guess you could borrow me as that,” she agreed, “but.. well..” Blushing again, Soneya didn’t continue, suddenly not sure she wanted to expose herself as being completely inexperienced. Though what difference did it make in the end? It wouldn’t change a thing, it was just for show and Kaevad would certainly take the lead if it was necessary to prove that he wasn’t available.
Recovering and trying to pick up her own sentence again without sounding awkward, she continued: “As long as she doesn’t go completely nuts from jealousy, we should be fine, right?”
In all honesty, she was curious to see what the girl would do, but she was even more interested to learn what kind of animal the girl could turn into or if she was a different sort of magic user. Most people here seemed to be shifters of some sort but she hadn’t really learned much about that aspect of their lives yet. Yesterday had been occupied by getting to know the place and later on helping with the prisoners Kaevad had freed. “Maybe they’ll show us which animals they can shift into? That would be interesting. To me at least. It would be something new, and well, since you’ve brought me here to learn something about magic, I figure that might be appropriate?” She tried to hide the shiver though that suddenly ran down her spine at the thought of being completely surrounded by people who could most likely kill her single handed.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Ears flicking back and forth, Rhyn's brows raised slightly, though it was hard to see, as Kaevad said he might have to borrow Soneya as his "woman" if they went out among the villagers. While she wasn't unfamiliar with that sort of thing, having let everybody assume her relations with Bradley the few times that they had gone down to the city, she wasn't sure that Soneya could play the part. Too shy to step up if needed. Not that I'm any better. I would prefer to simply leave, but I don't want to leave Soneya alone. Her puradyn senses would go insane, left alone with a man. Wouldn't they?
Rhyn was slightly amused, but didn't make it apparent. Instead, she shrugged her indifference, should they choose to look, and waited to see what they would be doing that day.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
He noted her nervousness, her uncertainty. Obviously very new to this. The dragon wanted to break her in, the human wanted to coddle her and soothe her, Kaevad decided to meet them in the middle. He smiled. "I won't let them harm you." He looked to Rhyn. "You won't mind helping? Guard her I mean, or you could be my 'woman," he actually quoted the air, "and deprive Soneya of this delightful experience." He tone was teasing. Time to add some drama to this act to make the ladies giggle... Changers why was he in this mood? Ah who cared - it was nice to be carefree for a change!
"But of course-" he turned suddenly and caught Soneya in an embrace, holding her so she was parallel to the ground. "It's more fun doing this with a less fuzzy girl. No offense Rhyn." He grinned up at her before bending and kissing Soneya on the nose quickly and pulling her up easily, holding her steady when she seemed shaky. Lass really WAS inexperienced!
"Of course we could always practice before we leave." He laughed, still not sure to this day what made him say that.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Swooped off her feet like that, quite literally this time, Soneya stared back up at Kaevad. Her heart was pounding so strongly, she was sure he could not only feel but also hear it. It was oddly wonderful as well as immensely terrifying but she felt in his arms, even if the situation really wasn’t one she’d like to repeat in front of an audience other than Rhyn. But of course, she realised that this might happen and she’d better start manning up a little bit.
“Practice won’t be necessary,” she quickly waved off. “I’ll be fine. I just wasn’t prepared for it, that’s all.” Of course, her fierce blush belied her words but she stood her ground as best as she could.
“I guess that the previous days’ exceptional circumstances would be sufficient enough to make everyone believe that we were having a bit of a fight or a tough time in our relationship since we weren’t very cuddly and lovey-dovey in front of everyone,” she said, her voice still a little shaky, but at least she was able to fight her way through the fog in her mind.
“Or maybe I should just stop worrying and we should just go out?” she added with a bright, yet very obviously fake smile, at the room. “We’ll be fine.” Though whether she was trying to reassure herself or the others as well, she didn’t know. However, she couldn’t really imagine anything happening either. After all, would they really attack their guests just because some girl got lovesick and jealous? That certainly wouldn’t fall under the code of conduct of decent hospitality, now would it? Still, Soneya was not reassured, despite having a snowleopard and a dragon by her side.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Rhyn snorted as Kaevad suggested she be his "woman" for the day. But her ears flattened at his statement about her being fuzzy. Even as Soneya protested that she would do just fine, belied by her blushing furiously, the snow-leopard rose to her feet, and stepped close to the two, picking up on Kaevad's carefree mood and allowing it to make its way into her own manner. She realized that she was truly short in comparison to the large man, but brushed the thought off.
Her tail waved sinuously around her as she smirked at the other two. "How do you know it is less fun with a "fuzzy" woman?" She placed her hands on her hips, brows raising in challenge. 'For that matter, why must you choose? We both be your "woman" and thus you are double claimed and twice as unavailable." A small chuff of laughter left her as she moved, sidling up along Kaevad's side and pressing against him. Her tail swung about, wrapping around his hips.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Green eyes danced between 'his' two women, before a chortle escaped him. "You're right about that, I suppose Rhyn. Very well." He kissed them both on the cheeks before leading them out on the streets, his arms around their waists. It was a cozy town, full for friendly people, stopping them to chat about this and that, thanking them for the food and for rescuing what they found out to be were their own family members captured during raids.
Despite having to seemingly doting women on his arms, Kaevad still managed to draw the attention of mothers and fathers, looking for a suitable man to wed their daughters to. Turns out there was a shortage of men in that general age range. Go figure. Polite decline after polite decline was made, claiming he already had a woman in his life, he just never clarified which of the two he meant.
Soneya, he noted, earned more glares though. Odd... considering how close Rhyn was to him as well. He drew Soneya closer without thinking after a particularly nasty glare and hiss even he caught, his wing wrapping around her protectively. He met the eyes of the aggressive woman and bared his own dragon-fangs, a low rumble of warning escaping. Down went the dog-shifter, full dog form without warning, on her back, tail between her legs. Simply sending her one last warning look, he moved away, ignoring the scolding the girl was getting from her mother.
Irritation rose as the girls got more aggressive. Kaevad had suggested Soneya talk to an older woman who was weaving using magic, and was watching her do so when he suddenly felt someone press themselves to his back, arms twining around his middle. The movement hadn't been a catch themselves from falling act, but a deliberate invasion of his personal space. He didn't tolerate that on a good day, especially from strangers. Soneya and Rhyn could easily get away with it, he cared about them. This girl though, rubbing herself against him like a whore, whispering things he didn't care to pay attention to... she would not go unpunished for this. "You have one warning. And one only." He voice was loud, rumbling and black. Villagers stopped to look. He didn't care. "Release me and return to the man I smell on you, or you'll not like the consequences." "He means nothing to me, punish me, we'll both enjoy it." Her voice was a purr, dark and velvety.
"Sashira!" A woman, her mother Kaevad assumed, called to her, both horrified and chastising. "What are you doing!? What about Adam?!" "Adam's pathetic, weak! Kaevad can kill, he's strong... Changers he smells good..." Sighs from other young women rose and Kaevad's fury rose. He attempted to smother it. He wouldn't hurt an idiotic, young woman. He would not hurt this whore. He would not hurt any innocent, even if they were stupid. Mortals... they lived such short lives that they don't think beyond their current actions. He closed his eyes and dredged deep for the patience he'd learned over the hundreds of years he'd lived. "Release me, Sashira." His voice had never sounded angrier. He opened his eyes to find Soneya and Rhyn, begging them to help. He couldn't hurt her, but he couldn't let this go on anymore either.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
In all honesty, as odd as it may look to the outside world when Kaevad suddenly ran about with two women dangling from his arms, Soneya was glad that Rhyn was in on it all. It made it less awkward for her, and it reassured her a little as well. Nothing was going to happen. All would be well. And Kaevad would not focus too much attention on her, thus making her blush and her stomach flutter. She had to carefully conceal her mischievous grins though when despite the whole act, a fair number of people enquired after Kaevad’s marital status. It was quite simply hilarious, especially since the women knew just how comfortable the dragon was with such questions.
The atmosphere was uncomfortable however and Soneya wasn’t quite sure why exactly, but she most definitely felt out of place. At first, she had thought it might be because she wasn’t magical like practically everyone else in this village, including her companions, but after the dog shifter incident, Soneya began to wonder if all the animal shifters were as competitive and aggressive when it came to mating, which made a shiver run down her spine and she gladly accepted Kaevad drawing her closer. Could it really be that every single female in this village had a crush on Kaevad? Or was it because she, as a non-shifter, had drawn the attention of a shifter they’d rather have for themselves? Or was it something completely different?
Upon Kaevad’s suggestion, Soneya began talking to the elderly woman who eagerly answered her question about her weaving work. Soon enough, the girl was completely absorbed by the woman’s explanations and her work, especially fascinated by how quickly the woman’s hands moved. Most of her work was done by hand, even if magic played a big role in the whole process and it was really intriguing.
Just as she was about to ask yet another question, she heard Kaevad’s tone of voice and immediately forgot her question. Swivelling around to her companions, she immediately took in the situation, an angry frown creasing her forehead. Who did that little snake thing she was? Sneaking up behind Kaevad and acting as though he was hers to snuggle up to. As an animal herself, she should know that coming up from behind on another animal was stupid in the best case. With Kaevad, such a movement could prove fatal.
Soneya only briefly looked at Rhyn, silently asking the leopard to take care of the girl, to claw her into bloody oblivion if need be. She herself instantly moved to Kaevad, taking hold of his right hand with her left. Never taking her eyes from his, she snarled at the girl, surprised at the ferocity in her own voice: “If you value your life, you better take your dirty hands off of him right now.”
She didn’t want to say anything else out loud because she didn’t want the villagers to think that their appearance as a dating trio had been an act, so she simply hoped that her eyes would be expressive enough for Kaevad to realise that the girl was not worth it. She willed him to draw the patience he needed from her as she slowly reached up to put her hand on his cheek, partially as a means to keep his gaze locked on her, partially because it would like a loving and possessive gesture to the outsiders. Or at least she hoped it would.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Rhyn wasn't wholly comfortable with the amount of touch she was getting, though it was nice at the same time. She simply wasn't used to it. She sent out her own glares at those who approached or inquired after Kaevad. Her jaws had opened in a smile as they watched Soneya, fascinated by the weaver's working. Focused for that moment on watching the younger woman, she didn't sense the other come up behind Kaevad until a slender arm slid between her and the man.
The exchange of voices was instant and swift, and Rhyn wasn't sure she would have to act, but Kaevad's pleading look called Soneya back, Soneya's look pleaded with her to take care of it. A low rumble of a growl built in her chest and her hackles began to raise. This harlot that was pressed against Kaevad's back was not wanted by either of them. Her hands reached out, claws pricking the woman's wrists as she forcibly pulled the other girl away from Kaevad. Lips pulled up to bare formidable canines, Rhyn was the picture of an angry cat. "He has said not want you, Sashira." Her accent was thick, but understandable as her stocky body dragged the other woman away. One hand closed around the girls neck, claws pricking the jugular vein in warning. "He has mates, and faithful, unlike you." Pale eyes were cold in their anger. "A strong man picks strong mates, not grasping women like you who will leave for the next best thing. You will not find a man like him who will accept you. Go back to your Adam. Undoubtedly, you do not deserve him, as he is likely faithful to you." Hoping that it would not escalate, she shoved the woman back, with only minor damage to her neck, five pinpricks of red from the tips of her claws. "Walk away now, and I will forgive your insult to me and Soneya." Her spotted tail lashed back and forth dangerously, ears flat into her fur, which was puffed about her body and made her look twice her size.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
He kept his gazed locked on Soneya as Rhyn yanked the girl from Kaevad, all 3 of them ignoring her whiny protest. He ignored their warnings, fighting to keep his twitching muscles the same size, his vibrating bones human and his scales under his skin. Certainly he was already partially dragon - the claws and partial scale covering proving as much - but he would not shift further. Doing so was risking the wrath of his dragon. So he kept his gaze on Soneya's seeing her own plea, leaning into her touch when she cupped his cheek.
He heard Sashira snarl as stumble. "Fucking bitches! You think YOU'RE worthy mates? THAT one doesn't even have a drop of magic in her veins! She's worthless, useless and weak!" Kaevad's temper flared and his fangs lengthened, Soneya's grip on his wrist and face the only thing- "I bet she just spreads her legs for anyone, you deserve so much better Kaevad, lose the pussy and the human. I'm more a worthy mate than these two useless pieces of shi-" She never finished.
Her mother had been moving to stop her, face scarlet with fury, but she was too slow. Far too slow. It was interesting, Kaevad noted from the back of his mind, to see how her face fit so easily into his hand. He'd grown more, of course, now standing at roughly 8' and pretty well full dragon. He was just humanoid enough to remain on his back legs. Only reason he knew this was because he could feel her kicking where his knee would be.
"You were warned, foolish mortal." His voice was raspy and thick, fire barely controlled flicked from the sides of his mouth. "You were warned more times than you deserve. You shame your family, you shame your mate of choosing, you shame yourself and you shame your village." She whimpered, clawing at his hands, fire of her summoning rippling uselessly across her hands. "Allow me to correct you while I have your attention." He felt a tugging - someone trying to get his attention - he ignored it for the moment. "Soneya is not useless, worthless or weak. She has more magic in her than you have in your fucking pinky. She has a bravery that rivals that of a dragon and the abilities that most could only dream of. You can't see it because you don't care for her as I do." At his he drops the welp, watching as she lay there crying.
"Soneya would not cheat on me, or leave me for another man. She is loyal and true. If the unfortunate mate of the woman can hear me, I suggest you choose another, this one's nothing but a sniveling snake." He turned to his two women, wings half raised, rage still darkening his eyes. He moved to them easily, stooping to hug Soneya easily, his hands gentle and his grip light. Flames back down in his throat, and Soneya at no risk of getting burnt, Kaevad nuzzled her gently before moving to Rhyn and nuzzling her as well. Signs of affection, and of possession. He glared up at the crowd that had gathered, challenging them, but they simply gave him an apologetic look before turning to move away. They understood.
He looked at his two ladies, anger dying down and sighed, twin streams of smoke escaping his nose. "Well... that could have gotten much worse." He looked at them, eyes grateful. "Thank you."

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
For as long as Kaevad kept his gaze locked on her, Soneya believed that all was going to be well, and their combined effort seemed to be working, especially since Rhyn seemed to have no trouble at all at picking the girl off of Kaevad. It seemed to work well.
That was until the girl started screaming profanities and insults. Soneya sensed the change in Kaevad before it became obvious and she knew there was no way she could even try to stop him after what Sashira had just said.
“No, Kaevad! Don’t!” she screamed but she knew he wouldn’t hear him. For a brief moment, she was afraid he’d lose control completely and slaughter not only the insolent shifter but everyone else in vicinity, but he didn’t relinquish control, at least not fully. He remained partially human at least and gave Sashira the worst scare she’s ever had and probably ever will have in her life.
Nevertheless, Soneya kept tugging at him, or trying to, with nothing but scales under her hands and even her nails, it was fairly difficult to attract a furious dragon’s attention. Good thing he was quite tall by now, otherwise the flames could have been quite hot but she didn’t care. She kept tugging at him as best she could to try and divert his focus but in vain.
As soon as his words left his lips however, she stopped her tugging in confusion and just looked at him, head cocked to the side, completely incredulous.
What had he just said?
Magic? Her? Impossible!
Soneya didn’t even realise that Kaevad had dropped Sashira to the ground until he stooped to hug her. His words faintly rang in her ears, everything after the words magic was nothing more than a mash of incomprehensible statements however. She instinctively raised a hand to his cheek again when he nuzzled her but she wasn’t really noticing what was going on, didn’t even hear his words of gratitude.
Magic…!
He had to be mistaken! There could be no magic in her. She was human, she was from Marn. She came from a Puradyne background. She could not have magic in her. She could not … No, it was impossible. She had not heard right. That had to be it. She hadn’t understood what Kaevad had said and simply misconstrued the meaning of his words. There was nothing else to it. Simple as that.
And yet… the words had struck a cord deep inside her.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Rhyn thought it was done with, and was turning away, when Sashira started to shriek insults after them, like the greedy bitch that she was. Her and Soneya weren't good enough, etc. The woman spun, ready to rip into the other, but Kaevad had had enough. He grew larger, and more dragon, grasping the interfering woman with one hand and ranting at her, flames escaping from his mouth.
She stood out of the way, and once Sashira was on the ground once more, scuffed her foot over the ground and flung dirt in that direction, as if she were covering refuse. As Kaevad came to her, she forced herself to stay still, and accepted the nuzzle, even managing to return it slightly, her tongue flicking out to touch his cheek softly before he pulled away. She sighed slightly, not liking that she had been centerstage of such drama.
Her fur was slowly lowering, her heartrate calming, and her tail didn't lash so quickly. Now it swayed lightly behind her as she shot a questioning glance up at Kaevad, and then over to Soneya.

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
"Let's go." He rumbled to the two before moving away, pausing when he noticed Soneya's pale face. She looked... upset. His eyes softened sadly. He'd scared her again, but she would shake it off, as she always seemed to do. For now... he bent and scooped her up in his arms, looking apologetically to Rhyn. "I'd do the same for you, but I can only carry one of you so you're comfortable. Besides... I think you may wish to run ahead for a bit, allow yourself to calm. There is a cave, a small distance out of town, we will meet there. I will bring the bags and Soneya." He moved to the cabin that had been theirs and did just that, not checking to see if Rhyn followed or not.
Setting Soneya down a moment to gather their things, he slung them easily over his shoulders before scooping her up once more, unsure as to why it was, exactly that he was so intent on carrying her. Either way... he snapped his wings open as they exited the building and thrust the two humanoid into the air, the membrane clawing for altitude. Once they were high enough, Kaevad simply allowed the currents to carry them.
"I haven't upset you, have I?" He asked suddenly, his voice surprisingly tight. He cleared his throat before glancing at her nestled in his arms. "With the grabbing and the lifting and the dragon... things."

Re: "Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?"
Soneya was still lost in thoughts when Kaevad sat her down in the cabin that had been their home during their stay in the village which had quite obviously now come to an end after this incident. She couldn’t really say that she was sad about it either. It didn’t seem to have worked out like either Rhyn or Kaevad had thought when they had first suggested to bring her here.
Just as well, a bit of travelling would give all of them time to think a little bit and enjoy each other’s company without having to talk too much. Especially for Soneya this would be good now as well, seeing that she had a few things to digest.
However, there was nothing to do about it, Kaevad had already scooped her up again and was flying off with her. Not that she minded. She had come to quite like the flying, even more so the fact that she found herself in his arms again.
Yet, what he had said about the magic simply didn’t want to let go and kept nagging at her mind. What had he meant by that? Or had she really just completely misunderstood?
When his voice reached her ear, she felt a little guilty for having been so quiet and seemingly a little distant. Instantly she felt like she needed to touch him – disregarding the fact that she currently was in his arms – and pushed her hand against his chest in a hopefully soothing gesture. “No, no, you didn’t. Honest,” she hurried to assure him. “I’m just lost in thoughts I guess. About something you said. Something you said about magic. It confused me, that’s all. Nothing to worry about though! I like being in your arms.” As soon as the words were out, Soneya shrunk into herself a little and biting her lip. Had she really just blurted that out? How embarrassing!
