Kitan frowned down at the ribbon. He rubbed his eye with his right hand as he looked at the colorful band, so upbeat against the backdrop of horror. The tears clearing, he saw the corpse behind his arm. He made certain his blurry eyes focused only on the closer objects, until what was beyond was an incomprehensible mess of dull shifts in brown tones.
“You must think I’m pretty dumb.” The fox shifter said, but he clutched the ribbon covetously anyways. His smile trembled into existence for a moment, only to collapse under the burdens it bore.
His eyes turned downwards. Alex was right about the boot, he supposed. It was much too big for him. He couldn’t keep it with him. There was a good chance of it falling off once he got on the horse anyways.
He grabbed the boot and took it off. He stood and walked over the dead bandit, and placed the boot lightly down by his foot. He crouched there for a little while, watching the rain drizzle through the furred top, the water writhing down the edge and pooling in the base.
He turned to look at the animal. It seemed big to him. Intimidating, even. The rain didn’t bother the beast at all. He shivered in the cold. “I’ve never really needed a horse before.” His frozen toes said he needed one now.
“Do I just...” He reached his small hand up, and tried to climb Leto’s side. His unpracticed motions made an impressive variety of mistakes; Kitan’s uneven distribution of weight caused Leto to snort and turn away. Kitan toppled backwards, arms pin wheeling, but managed to avoid the earth’s embrace.
He looked at the horse. The horse looked back at him. Kitan was struck by sudden recognition, for at his father’s cabin this had been the horse to interrupt his line of thought. He puffed up, face as red as his fur from embarrassment. In a petulant, childish tone, Kitan’s voice rang out over the splashing drops of the sky's tears.
“Your horse is a jerk.”

"Dumb? No," Alexandros assured the shifter with a smile made of determination "Your trick earlier, at the cabin, was very clever. Someone dumb couldn't have done that." The guard helped his little fox friend with his boot, if he needed it, then directed him to Leto.
The horse stood there patiently. Ready to be mounted, but ignorant of the catastrophe to follow shortly. Alexandros stepped aside as Kitan made his first go at climbing Leto's brown side - but soon cringed, fox feet and hands darting every which way as the youth tried to clamber up. It would have been comical any other day... But much had lost its humor with their recent and lethal encounter, afternoon made sour by rain, and the tragic discovery they'd made earlier. Still, when Kitan's face went scarlet and he made his proclamation Alexandros couldn't help but let his mouth crack with a grin.
"He's been called that, and worse." Alexandros laughed, then added. "By me."
"Here: let me mount up first, then I'll help you." Dragesus offered. The armoured man made his way to Leto's side and grabbed hold of the horse's saddle, one metal grip closed around the pommel at its fore and the other clasping the ridge at its back. Then, he pulled, grunting painfully as he crested Leto's back enough to plant one foot in a stirrup and swing the other foot around. Leto snorted again. Maybe he was just in an indignant mood?
Then Alexandros leaned as his pierced side protested, hand extended with its palm open to grab Kitan's and pull him up. He'd bring the shifter up and put the child infront of him on the saddle. Then, he'd put his plated arms to either side of Kitan and grab hold of his steed's rein.
"Hold the pommel to help keep your balance." Alexandros instructed. "You'll have to grab the reins if I drop them. It's very important."
Then to Morveya, Clarisse, and Lurus. "We should be gone, are you ready?"
