Name: Horbin or Horby for short.
Age: 48
Race:Human
Physical Description: A larger man with a heavy belly and a booming voice. His beard and hair are a tangled main of grey with strands of the black it used to be. Heavy gray eyes hide beneath drooped eyelids. He consantly wheezes as he struggles to breath beneath the pressure of his weight. Large hands are as stiff as leather, made firm by years of hard work. His clothes are made of wool and usually layered in sweat as he runs around doing his duties. He often flashes passing people his few teeth smile, ignoring the disgust in their face. He wears a bandana around his head to cover up the bald spot.
Possessions: A small necklace made of blue and green beads, a red bandana, a flask usually having some kind of alchohol in it, a small dagger in his belt, and a heavy rope wrapped firmly around his waist.
Powers or Strengths:
Blank Face: This man doesn't usually show his emotions. His poker face is almost legend as he faces people down without blinking an eye even though he's probably about to mess himself.
Captain: He commands a ship full of hearty strong men. Unfortunately when they reach land, it's every man for himself. This could end up being a problem later on for this man.
Pride: This man will not back down from a battle. He often will battle for the pride of himself, his men, or even for the sake of a struggling begger.
Honour Bound Duty: Horbin is the type of man that give a begger his last penny without a second thought. He believes that to be truly happy you must help those less fortunate then you, and only through that will you find pure joy. Unfortunately his wife didn't agree with this method and left him for a wealthy man.
Combat Abilities - He can't fight worth crap.
Weaknesses and Flaws:
Drunk As large as he is he can't hold his liquor. His crew often drag him back to the ship after a nights drink, trying to ignore the nonsense he spews or the fact that he somehow lost his pants.
Oblivious When he's thinking about something, Horbin doesn't notice anything. Many times this leads to him ending up on the wrong side of town or in the middle of nowhere. He's also been known to walk right past people talking to him.
History:
Born on land, raised at sea. Horbin was often found playing in the sea's murky waves as a child, his eyes never truly lit up until he was deep in the water, splashing and swimming to his hearts content.
However at five years old Horbin was forced to move away. His parent dragged him away to the Marn, claiming the change would do him good. Instead, he found himself miserable. He missed the sea. He missed the smell of salty air. The sound of the tides rushing in as seagulls squawked at each other, diving for their food or simply basking on the beach. Even that stupid pelican that waddled around his cabin. Horbin stayed away for almost a full three months before he couldn't take it anymore. Packing his bag he ran away from home to rejoin his loving sea. When his parents found him again, he was playing in the ocean with a smile so wide it nearly split his face in two. Seeing his joy they agreed to stay, this time their home a little farther inland but close enough to visit the water.
The year Horbin turned twelve, his father carved him a fishing rod. Pleased and excited Horbin showed it off to the local boys. The oldest one, the bully of the group, immediately demanded for the rod. After being told no, the bully immediately reached for the rod. Terrified that his precious rod may be taken from him Horbin tried to valiently fight them off. Unfortunately all it got his was a black and bloody nose. Miserable Horbin trudged home empty handed.
At the age of twenty Horbin became a fisherman. He married the beauty of the town and had a child with her. Proud of both her and his young daughter he fought to make a living. He caught the fish, his wife sold it. For three years they were content until the fish began to dwindle and so did their money. Despite their difficulties Horbin never forgot to give a copper to the poor begger on the street or to buy a bit more food to give to the hungry. Unfortunately his good deeds brought mean fees at the home. Demanding a better life then he could provide, she took their daughter and left while he was out at sea. Returning to an empty home, Horbin couldn't believe it. No longer able to deal with the house and the memories it held, Horbin was forced to sell it and join a crew of sailors.
Now he sails the seas as a captain, laughing and drinking to his hearts content. He works hard and loves every minute of it. Often he gambles in 'legal' places and often does 'not' cheat to earn money but hey, he's a perfect gentleman. Really. Well, so long as he's sober and your not a female.

Re: Horbin
Watch your tenses and homonyms, I caught quite a few of them on a read through.
Instead of 'pride' you might consider calling it 'ego.'
Stick combat abilities into weaknesses, as I'd hardly call that a strength.
I'd like a little bit of insight on his transition from being a sailor to a captain, and how he's able to be fat when he tends to be on the poorer side of things. It's possible to be skinny with a pot belly from drinking too much; I see it happening to several of Morgan's middle aged coworkers who spend more time drinking than eating.
For being a bit of an altruist and generous hearted, he also seems to be a bit of a blaggard (being drunk, soiling himself). I'd like a little more depth into the contradictions in his personality and what specifically causes them. Just because you might wind up killing him off doesn't mean you shouldn't explore why he is the way he is, how he's handled the disappointments in his life and what choices he makes because of his situation. Makes for a more interesting story, if you ask me.
Also, how long has he been a captain? Does he own his ship or is he still paying it off? How long has he been with his crew?
