In Thar's time for the poorer folk, especially in magically constrained areas, the life expectancy for humans is not terribly high. I have described Saruna as an old woman despite the fact that she is only 54; in real life I would still consider her middle aged. However, in Thar terms she is fast approaching death, and likely would be lucky to make it far past 60. Therefore, feeling old in body and being elderly in community, she has a habit on looking at those younger than her children's ages as Very Young. She knows they are traditionally adults by age, but in experience she considers them children still.
Therefore, you will see her in my posts referring to Ran, Fayane and likely Jerial as boys, girl, young men and young woman. This has nothing to do with their actual age or world-weary maturity, but rather on her impressions of them from appearance and behavior.
Ran is 25 years old, older than Fayane by a good few years than Fayane and younger than Jerial by a few. Saruna will group them up in the same 'youth' category simply because of their appearances and behavior that recalls her to her girlhood. (I picked up this trait from one of my coworkers, who fondly will call me 'little girl' to my face on occasion, which caused me a touch of undignified prideful injury at the age of 20, as one might expect. Saruna, however, is a bit more tactful than that, and will only do that sort of age regression in her mind)
Meanwhile, it is likely she will revolve from disapproving to approving with Tanobi, as she will expect him to act similarly to her as they are the same age. She has not had extensive experience with outside cultures or adults, relying mostly on her memories with her family. Behavior outside of that paradigm will be met with surprise and judgement both until either she changes or commits to stubbornness in her entrenched world view.
Sorry to cause any confusion.
