Ellyrix (WIP... again)

Post by Bri » Sun Mar 04, 2012 8:24 am

Age: 20

Race: Cambion

Physical Description: Ellyrix stands at the height of an average woman - five foot seven inches. Her physical build would rival any modern day (current Earth) Olympic athlete. She cares little for the fashions of man, but prefers her vestment to be tight fitting. Her hair falls shoulder length, in waves of blue and brown. While she has no visible tattoos, her skin bares blue whisps at the fringes of her hairline - the same hue that glows in her eyes.

Possessions: Ellyrix caries a single four-inch blade; a simple weapon gifted to her by Ceto Brizo.

Powers or Strengths: Ellyrix has empathic abilities that allow her to perceive the emotional states of others. She communicates with flora, often spending hours at a time communing with a plant. Ellyrix is capable of distinguishing humans from demons, vampires and other non-human life forms.

As a Cambion, Ellyrix does not breath, nor does she have a pulse. While it would seem Ellryix is beyond human, she relies on a circulatory system to help fight diseases, stabilize body temperature and pH, and to maintain homeostasis. Her supernatural physiology provides a lifespan much longer than that of an average human.

Weaknesses and Flaws: Ellyrix is usually inept in most social interactions due to years of solitude. While she possesses a blade, Ellyrix has had no formal training in it's use beyond gutting and scaling fish.

Origins: Ellyrix was born of a mortal woman and sired by an incubus, the non-human wellspring from whom she inherits her supernatural abilities. Ellyrix is a cambion; a still birth that appears fully human except they have no pulse or breath. They continue to appear human until about the age of seven years, after which they begin showing their demonic origins more overtly.

The still birth was disposed of in the Ofriyu Mar as it passes through the outskirts of Marn. The breathless child washed downstream before finally resting on the bank of an eddying pool frequented by one, Ceto Brizo, a fisherman from just beyond the city limits. Ceto would bring the squirming baby home; he and his wife, Eirene, would raise the child among their own for the next six years.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Into the woods, Elly." As the words escaped his lips, Ceto fought to hold back the tears welling in his eyes. The burly man, his body worn from years of hard labour, continued to crouch next to the young girl at the fringes of the Virdara Woods. He reached out towards the forest, his digits curling into his palm save his index finger. Ellyrix stood next to Ceto, looking the man she called 'father' eye to eye. She opened her mouth to speak, but the words fell into silence. His emotional state stopped her; she could feel his fear and his anger. Though a young head sat on her shoulders, Ellyrix learned quickly to concede to the emotions of others. Ceto's free hand raised to her face, the pads of his fingertips gracing her cheek before moving into the hair just above her ear. "You must hide, little one. Hide so they don't find you."
Ceto wasted little time depositing his adoptive daughter at the edge of the woods. He knew of their history; many a man disappeared, never to be heard from again. While he had knowledge of the potential dangers his charge would face, her fate would be in her own hands. Ceto wouldn't allow the City Guard to find and destroy the little girl who began to display physical characteristics of a magical origin. With little more than a gentle shove to her shoulder, Ceto rose from his squat, and turned on his heel and walked away. He couldn't bear to watch her disappear.
Hiya! I understand this is a WIP but I'd like to make sure you understood our policies regarding character creation before you got too far along.
http://www.tharshaddin.com/rules/Character_Creation
Start small. I can't stress this enough, so I'll use caps: START SMALL.
Your first character here won't be powerful. You can't be a 1000 year old vampire who is known around the world as the greatest fighter ever and who wields the mighty Sword of Blargensblag that can kill anyone in one swing. When you begin, as in all RPGs, you will be using a character with few powers and little renown. When the staff reviews your character application, this is a major consideration.
Thar is predominantly focused around character and plot development. We prefer weaker characters so they have room to grow, both personality wise and, if the player desires, powers wise. There is not much fighting within Thar, so there is not really a reason to start out powerful. It is fine to have a potential for power, so long as it is understood that there will be much, much writing between the start and end.
As for your character being a demi-god, we'd prefer to leave out that sort of wording. The word 'god' has too many implications.
If you have any questions, comments or the like please feel free to leave them here in this thread or in a pm to myself, Niabi or Frug. Should you finish your app and like it to be looked over officially, please leave a reply in the thread to make sure we know that you're ready.
I also want to point out that sleeping only 30 minutes every 48 hours (2 days) is not a weakness. Many people would crash long before that if not kept awake by some sort of stimulate (coffee, drugs and such) and even if they did stay awake that long, they would be have trouble functioning correctly and it would take much more than 30 minutes to rest and recharge.
This is totally awesome and I fail to see the problem.
Edited... still a work in progress, but I thought I'd throw this out there before I get too far.
I won't be offended if you're reply is "just go away".
It has been years since I've RPed, and I may not be up to your standards. :)
Yeah, I'm going to suggest re-reading the rules, looking over other profiles, and starting from scratch because this won't get approved.
I still need to work on the history; flesh it out.
That's looking better. I'll let a reviewer give it a proper go through when you're done.
Ok... I think it's worthy of a review. :oops:
First of all, I am happy with the new direction. I know it can seem to some players that we're super strict or have unfathomable rules, but we do what we do to keep the setting comprehensive and sensible. It is always a pleasure when people work to fit into the vision of Thar Shaddin as a writing site, rather than get upset that we tend to go one way or another, or say their character won't work as is. We greatly appreciate effort.
That said, I feel Ellyrix is yet incomplete. The direction is a good one, but it needs more. We like to see strengths/weaknesses that speak towards character development (think personality, something that can be played off of during rp, or something that another player can look at and say "this character would go well with my own"), especially the more complicated a character has a potential to be, in addition to actual powers or physical skills. It's also likely relevant to include in strengths/powers that she doesn't need to breathe and doesn't have a pulse. Does that mean she won't bleed out? Can she sustain greater injuries than a human? Is there anything in particular that a cambion is weak towards?
If I were to ask you "Who is Ellyrix the person?" I am certain you will have more information to give me than what is in here, and I'd like to see some of that in the app. As well, I'd like any relevant events from birth to present, anything that helped to form her personality or affected her outlook on life and people should be included in her history -- a lot of stuff can happen between age seven and twenty, especially as she'd be living in the forest.
Ok, this is driving me nutty... isn't that Amy Acker as Illyria?
Oh I knew it was familiar...
As per the rules that will have to change, though I don't really mind it in the avatar.
Thanks. :)
Will flesh it out more today (at work now... so unable to spend time at it).
Yeah... Illyria was my inspiration, though I had no intention of being a Primordial God King. Just really liked her interaction with humans. Joss Whedon is one of my many muses.
