NaNoWriMo 2011
NaNoWriMo 2011
So I'm a writer, and national novel writing month is coming up (which makes little sense since I've known people in the UK and Netherlands ffs who do it too) in November and I'm just starting my pre-writing crap.
You can learn more about it here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/ if you've never heard of this geeky crap before. Basically you have one month to speed-write a 50,000 word novel.
So! Who all is doing nanowrimo this year and if so, what are you thinking of writing about?
Last year I got to 41,000 words before I gave up. This year I'm quite busy with school and stuff but I'm doing it anyway because it's a fantastic exercise for writers and I greatly encourage everyone on Thar to try it.

Liar. You're the one who encouraged me to do it through your backward "you should encourage me to do national novel writing month this year."

I've totally been thinking about this throughout October, right now planning it, but not so sure where all I'll get to in the end. What are you writing about, Zina?
Mine's probably going to be some sort of exploration of the concept of how personal perception defines one's world.

I'll have to skip NaNo this year, as I'm writing my thesis.
Would be happy to cheer the rest of you on, though.
I heartily recommend everyone to give it a try. I've written incredibly crappy stories, but I've still had great fun. And the forums are awesome.

Never sigh for better world,
It`s already composed, played and told.

I'll be trying out some neolithic fantasy Jason. I might be focusing on a couple themes like what defines human from nature and what is part of the human condition.
Breda, I've written some terribad stuff too in nanowrimo but that's what December is for! If your novel doesn't end up complete shit, you can work with your very rough ideas and work out some real good substance.

Brilliant idea. I hope you have fun writing it.
Re: NaNoWriMo 2011
I might put in a token effort, but Iunno. A gaming buddy of mine took a picture last year with five of his friends huddled over their laptops in his living room working on their nanowrimo efforts. It made me distantly envious in the sense that if I shoot for it I'll be all alone in the cold with nothing but people who don't understand the urge to write hanging around to poke fun at me.

I let Erryl talk me into it. I'm writing a survival story IIIN SPAAACE.

Anyone want a NaNo writing buddy? PM me and we can exchange NaNo names.

A word of warning: open office counts curly quotation sets as a word. When I checked my word count in another program it was off by about 1k words.

Dude, the pep talk from Brandon Sanderson -- how awesome was it? Okay, sure, I'm a little biased (grabbed elantris a few years ago and never looked back), but I felt it hit me in the right spot, and screw thanksgiving and all of the people who will be interrupting me in the next few days: I've got my notebook and my creativity well and I AM GOING TO FINISH, DAMMIT.
