A bandit who chases after Ran into Shim.

Name: Buruga

Age: 27

Description:

Buruga is a human male in that deadly age when the physical vigor of youth is combined with the tempered wisdom of the mounting years. A veteran of the bandit lifestyle, Buruga has survived dozens of battles and is considered to be one of the bandits' elite fighters, acknowledged by the bandit chief.

He is not a leader, however. Unable to convince men to follow him, Buruga knows that he is likely to die in a future battle if he continues to remain with the band. He is wondering how he could escape to a civilian life, but even if he were to succeed, Buruga would have a hard time adjusting to a law-abiding life. But he's not worrying about that, not yet.

Appearance:

Buruga looks much older than his years. Scars cover his hands and arms, with a few on his legs and his body, but remarkably only one scar, small remnant of a slash from a sword that came so close to killing him, mar his face. He is taller than the average man in the region, though only by a few inches. A long, square head and a face with small but surprisingly human eyes, which stare blankly and without pity on the world around it, sit atop a strong body.

Abilities:

Buruga is a seasoned fighter and a moderately skilled survivor, able to fend for himself in the wild and track to a small degree. He is a brooding but intelligent character, swift and fearless in melee combat which is how he prefers to fight, using a combination of strength and agility to score deadly, precise blows with his two swords.

Buruga prefers to ambush opponents when their guards are down, waiting for the right moment and then striking out with everything he's got to kill his opponents quickly. Buruga does not like to trade blows unless he has to, one of the reasons he is alive today. He is an experienced melee fighter, and has learned to deal with a variety of combat situations over his years as a bandit.

Buruga is good with the sword on both arms, though he prefers his right arm, which is slightly stronger and more dexterous than his left. As such, he tends to make all of his more forceful blows with his right arm, while using the left arm to perform less sensitive maneuvers.

He is not a raving lunatic, a much valued and exceedingly rare trait within the bandit population. Buruga can pretend to fit in with the civilized folks, at least for a short period of time. He's not good at socializing by any means, but if he just remains silent you could mistake him for a less malicious man.

Possessions:

Two short, one-handed sword with a blade about two feet long, still sharp but slightly dulled from frequent use. The swords look slightly different, but handle approximately the same as each other.

A worn, leather armor partially covers Buruga's body. The armor is designed more for agility than protection, however it is still better than wearing no armor at all.

A pouch with approximately 70 bishani. He's been saving it up to spend it all in a trip to a big city in the future.

Waterskin. For holding water.

History:

Buruga is sent by the bandits' leader to hunt down Ran, who has seen many of their faces. By policy, the bandits hunt down anyone who encounters them and thus is able to describe them. For many years now, they have held true to this rule and this has helped them operate under the radar of powerful local interests. Buruga's partner Reev is a strange and stupid man, but has a special affinity with animals. He has with him a trained attack dog, primarily a breed of what we know as the Anatolian shepard dog.

The dog leads the duo to the edge of the forest where Ran entered Shim at the end of Night 2. Weary of the guards of the big city, Buruga and Reev return to deeper wilderness. Here, Buruga leaves Reev and the dog, and disguises himself as best he can by leaving with Reev his helmet and donning a cloak to cover his two short swords.

He enters town in day 3, when the town is at its busiest, hoping to blend in with the crowd and investigate an opportunity to kill Ran discreetly.
