The Red Chalice - a question

I was wondering if there would be any problems with starting my character in the Red Chalice; is there already a thread I should use? NPCs?

Thanks for your question. You're welcome to start a thread in any of the forums that would make sense for your character, but I'd like to recommend that you take a different approach to starting playing your character.

Our forums don't play like chat rooms in that people don't join existing threads based on where they want their plot to take place. We forms threads with the people (other characters) we want to have a plot with, and decide on the appropriate forum (location) for the thread to take place.

For example: you find someone in the Characters Available for Plots thread (where we highly recommend you go before attempting an in-character post) and find someone whose character meshes well with yours and wants to start a plot; this is sometimes arranged through PM as well. Say you decide the best place for your characters to "meet" is the Red Chalice--you can start a thread in the Downtown and Business District forum, and you're not expected to merge that thread with any other current threads that may happen to be taking place in the Red Chalice right now. You're welcome to play your own NPCs as you need for your plot.

Mainly, as my character is just arriving in the area, so to speak, I wanted to establish his arrival into Shim, first, before jumping into the city proper.

Wherever you want to start is fine. But you should share this idea with people in the OOC thread that is used to find people to RP with. First read Frug's first post at the front of that thread, which explains the process. Coming into our OOC chat or talking in the shoutbox is also a good way to meet people OOC.

This is why our forums don't operate like a chat room--if you just say "So-and-so walked into the village" or what have you, and you haven't already established a person or two to RP with, people aren't going to jump into your thread and start RPing with you.

Here is an example of a thread that was recently started. If you read the first few posts, you can tell that the players involved are all bringing their characters into the scene with the prearranged intent to have them cross paths. Their plot discussion thread was made after they found each other in the first link (Characters Available for Plots), where they can discuss specifics about their plot OOC.
