It's a little late, but...

Post by Kamar Deythal » Thu Jul 20, 2006 5:59 am

Hi, my name is David. I'm best known for my character Kamar Deythal. My secondary character is currently floating around right now, but I'm not about to let you know who it is... yet...

I've been RPing on and off since I was 15. That's about 12 years. I've played tabletop as a player and as a DM (Dungeon Master for the lay-person), and have been a part of many chat-based RP's as well, everything from the politically correct Wizards of the Coast to the politically defunct Dykal. This is my first experience in pBp RPing, and I'm actually quite enjoying myself.

Ok, spare time. A lot of late night video games, when I don't have to get up in the morning for work. Movies, cards, coffee with friends, walks by the beach, and the gym. That's most of my spare time that's not spent RPing. There's not much spare time, to tell the truth.

I work as an Accounting Assistant at a hotel on the west coast of Canada. Great tourist business out here, I'll tell you! Come January, I'll be going back to school to finish my diploma in Business Administration (Accounting option, obviously!) and perhaps start on my degree in Accounting. I've already finished a year of my diploma, and took a year off in order to gain some valuable experience in my field.

Ok, now that I've yammered on enough, thanks for listening.

Looking forward to continuing to RP with everyone!
You’re gonna find out you’re already dead, and I was the world coming down on your head.

What games? I've been holding out for the new quake wars game. The last one I held out for was Oblivion, and that was a letdown. Morrowind was much better...

I have a PS2, and the newest games I bought (I tend to buy used because I don't want to spend $75 dollars on a freakin video game) were The Bard's Tale and God of War. I tend towards action/RPG for video games as well, but I do like my occasional Tiger Woods Golf or a hockey game. I also enjoy stuff like Rollercoaster Tycoon and Sims. I'm also currently in the middle of a two player Champions of Norrath: Return to Arms game. It's quite enjoyable, I find.

Ah. I usually tend to more tournament style games in the end. Stuff that's multiplayer and fine-tuned for it, like starcraft/warcraft, counter strike, quake...

They get old eventually and you can put them away for good when they do, which is nice. When I was living in residence, I played starcraft every day along with an engineer on my floor. We both dropped our GPAs by at least a point in the process, but damn, we got pretty good. Stupid game ate 2 years of my life, but I ain't touched it since.

It's kinda sad how many people's souls World of Warcraft has eaten. Statistically, I think counter strike is still the most played game of all time, but the people who play WoW play 24/7 and can get a little too into it. People actually have jobs (so called chinese farmers) farming gold in WoW and then selling it on eBay to other players. Paying real money for video game gold? Okay....

I avoided playing WoW so I wouldn't get eaten alive.

I only play MMORPGs when my husband finds one he likes. For some reason it's a lot easier for me to get him to do nice things for me in a dumb game than in RL. (Yeah I know that's kind of sad but we met in a MUD).

My dad got into WoW when he retired from his job and he disappears into that game for long stretches of time. You don't think of your stereotypical WoW player as a grandpa in his 70s but my dad's very serious about that game. It also strikes me as hilarious when I hear my dad complaining about those darn kill stealers and so on and so forth.

I played WoW for a little while because I wanted to do something with my dad but the game lost my interest after awhile, especially since I had a full time job and a baby and really didn't have the desire to play during all my free time. My husband's big thing is City of Heroes on and off. I sometimes play but cancelled my account for a long time. I would much rather do something creative with my free time. When I played in a MUD all those years ago I was one of the wizards. I used to design areas, not fight in them.

One of the companies I'm going to be doing software contract work for is a company building an MMORPG. It should be a fun sidetrack for me after primarily doing work for the army night vision labs.

That's pretty cool, working to help make an mmorpg. I'd love to do that, but I had to quit computer science. I couldn't keep up that kind of workload, even though deep down inside I think I love it...

I've seen a bit of city of heroes. It looked fun, but you need to be able to throw those cars around. Surprisingly, I can understand meeting in a MUD. I used to play a dwarf in one realm of utopian dreams for some time. That was some good RP.

Alas, I'm off to the cottage for the weekend now. Play nice. I'll bring goodies back with me, and probably a new character to mess with yours.

I just bought God of War, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet. Too busy with everything else.

Any interesting hotel stories? The most interesting (or perhaps depressing) part of my job is that you can clearly see these people have had SOME sort of education. You can even trace it by the years. It's insane.

On the flipside, I LOVE talking with parents. They are the most adorable things ever, and I want to take some of them home and keep them as my pet.

Kamar-

West coast of Canada eh, anywhere near Vancouver? Me and a couple friends are going to be driving up there from LA in a little bit, maybe you can show us around all the hotspots :]

Philo-

What kind of mmorpg will you be working on? Just curious... I hope to work on more than one throughout my lifetime, MMOs are one of my prominent passions as far as gaming goes.

Actually I can't say. First off I dont' have any details yet. Second off there's this elaborate non-disclosure agreement thing that my signature is on so I'm legally not allowed to say a darn word about it once I do know something.

Orion

I actually live on Vancouver Island, an hour and a half ferry ride across the water. I have a friend that lives in Van, so let me know when you will be there, and I will try to arrange some time off and visit on the weekend or something. We'll get together and see about some of those hotspots.

If someone gets axe murdered it's not my fault.

Well, I'm not -actually- like Kamar. I just have an evil little brain. My players in the tabletop game say they hate it, but I know they love it!

Besides, I wouldn't go alone. I have my indestructible friend who would come with me. He's been shot, stabbed, run over, hit by a car while he was on a bus... the list goes on, and he's still standing!
