Koriss Aleanneldth

Post by Koriss » Tue Apr 12, 2011 7:54 pm

Name: Koriss Aleanneldth (Black-Scroll of the House of the Arcane)
Race: Elf
Class: Wizard
Age: 125

Description:
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 175 lbs
Eyes: Green
Koriss' almond-shaped eyes radiate a powerful essence. It is as if they reflect the entirety of his life's trials and tribulations, revealing that they have done nothing but make him more powerful. His hair is long and silky, colored in a subtle auburn shade. Koriss has all of the features that many elves boast, high cheekbones, almond-shaped eyes, long, supple fingers, and very fine, lithe frames. As a wizard of good alignment, Koriss wears white robes, and he spends much of his time tediously keeping them clean. The implement through which he channels his magic is a simple wooden staff. Atop the staff is a skeletal hand holding a multi faceted gem. To the untrained observer, the staff looks plain save for the sizable gem within the skeletal hand. Those who know the Art recognize it as an item of considerable power to one who knows how to tap into its inner secrets.

Possessions: Koriss usually wears his white robes, especially when he is traveling. In a leather messenger bag, he carries his spell book, several sheafs of Velum, and a few sticks of charcoal. About his waist, he has a simple cord belt, to which are tied several pouches containing rose petals, bat guano, sand, and other spell components. His prized possession is his staff. This slender wooden staff is capped with a bleached skeletal hand. Enclosed in the hand is a multi-faceted gem. The gem gleams in the sunlight, reflecting in a myriad of colors.

Spells:

Light: this spell creates light that emanates from the gem atop Koriss' staff. It radiates for about 15 feet, but can be diminished at will as the situation demands.

Acid Missile: this spell creates up to three tendrils of acid that writhe toward the target. The target causes moderate acid damage, melting flesh from bone, and burning clothing. It is not of sufficient strength, to burn through a solid stone wall, for example.

Lightning: this spell causes bolts of lightning to arc from the casters hands toward the target. This lightning can arc to as many as three targets, but the targets must be within at least five feet of each other.

Fireball: this spell is pretty self explanatory. A ball of fire erupts from the caster's hand, roughly six inches in diameter. The ball explodes on impact, with a 15 foot blast radius. Targets in the blast are imolated, if not immediately incinerated. Koriss can only cast this once per day, as it requires a significant amount of energy to cast.

Character Flaws

Need for large amounts of energy: Koriss, as a fledgling mage, is easily taxed by the energy required to cast his spells. After casting his Fireball spell, for example, he cannot cast it again until he has taken time to rest. If he tries to cast a spell more than twice in eight hours, he risks falling unconscious. He is not yet a spell-casting machine, and is therefore left completely defenseless without proper (preferably meaty and wrapped in steel) protection. Koriss seeks to make himself stronger so that he can sustain more spell-casting capabilities, and eventually have the power to use more complex spells.

Claustrophobia: Koriss has a strong fear of enclosed spaces. However, it is not limited to that. He also finds it hard to breath while standing in large crowds. When he is in a situation where he has very little "Breathing room", his breath quickens, and his heart races. Sweat beads up on his forehead, and he feels faint. If the surroundings are not changed, he eventually passes out from hyperventilation.

Fear of the Dark: Koriss has a crippling fear of darkness. Most people associate fear of darkness with childhood. Koriss associates darkness with evil. Though Koriss has a strong loathing of that which is evil, he is incredibly afraid of darkness. If and when he finds himself in total darkness, Koriss begins to hyperventilate. This leads to uncontrolled muscle spasms and intense, blood-curdling screams. To avoid the darkness, Koriss usually avoids going into places that are blindingly dark, and he usually shies away from shadowy corners, preferring to stand in the light of a torch or a lantern.

Backstory

Koriss was born in a settlement on Darleone Island. He was raised among several of his own kind, causing a growing curiosity in creatures different than himself (Humanoid or otherwise). When he was a small child, he was victimized by bullies. On one occaision, they locked him in a wine cellar for a full day, leaving him in complete darkness. While he was trapped there, he had vivid hallucinations of vicious monsters rending his flesh and tearing at his body. His parents finally found him by following the sounds of his tortured screams.

Following the incident, Koriss found himself unable to ever enter a room that was even remotely dark. This crippling fear haunted him all his life as his tormentors continued to taunt him, shouting things about him being a baby. This lasted for several years, until one day he just snapped...

As one of the bullies tried to grab him and throw him in the wine cellar again, Koriss raised his hands defensively. When he did, sparks of lightning sprang from his fingertips. The lightning shocked the bully, knocking him unconscious and hurling him to the ground. The others who saw this looked on in horror and ran screaming from their fallen comrade. Koriss was amazed and horrified at what he had done. Afraid he had killed the young elf, he ran crying to his parents.

When he told them what he had done, his parents were absolutely thrilled. They were happy that he had finally stood up to the bullies. They were more thrilled that he had the gifted ability to tap into the Astral Plane. When he was old enough, his parents enrolled him into a local academy to further enhance his spell-casting ability. After about five years of study, he was ready to have his skills put to the test.

His trials were tough, putting all of his skills to the test. In his final ordeal, Koriss was pitted against his mentor. The wizened old mage prepared to cast a fireball spell, and Koriss reacted appropriately, chanting the words to a shielding spell. The spell worked, but it wasn't enough to withstand the more powerful mage's attack. The shield faltered at the last second, splintering into several tiny shards of magic. While the fireball had never touched him, the shards scattered in several directions, one of them lodging itself directly beneath his eye. He was able to remove the shard, but the damage was done. A short, deep gash was left behind, which would surely scar.

For Koriss, the test was an utter failure, his spell faltered, and he was lucky to walk away with only a single scar. His mentor was pleased, however and he passed Koriss through the Test, giving him the mantle of Magus. He was gifted his mage's staff, and his robes. Koriss chose white, believing that it would be a color representing good and purity. Despite his hideous scar, the robes enveloped him, embraced him. In the mage's robes, Koriss felt masked from his own ugliness. After taking on his robes and his staff, Koriss set out into the world to find adventure.

But adventure found him, as it would seem. While journeying back to his hometown, he encountered a band of goblins that had recently ransacked a trade caravan. The foul creatures had taken the traders captive, and were in the process of looting their carriage. Koriss reacted swiftly, the words of a spell already on his lips. As he finished chanting, lightning crackled from his hands, hitting two goblins in their backsides. As they turned and spotted the wizard chanting another spell, they rushed to stop him. They were not fast enough, and three more were slain by a fireball. There were two goblins left, and they knew better than to charge a wizard head on. They sprinted as fast as their tiny legs could take them, grabbing the helpless traders, and holding vicious blades up to their necks. Koriss, his mind lost in the magic, had become completely oblivious to what was going on in front of him. Without thinking, he let loose his spell. Tendrils of green, acidic energy writhed toward the goblins. Thinking fast, the goblins threw the traders into the spell, their skin melting from their helpless bodies. By the time Koriss had opened his eyes, he saw the pathetic lumps of melted human before him. He was horrified at what he had done, feeling his own soul become dirty like the blood slowly staining his white robes. Once again the mage had been tested, and once again he had failed himself. The surviving goblins got away with most of the loot, leaving behind very little of the caravan. Despite the destruction of the carriage, a single item fell out of the burning wreckage. A slender wooden staff, topped with a skeletal hand. The claw held in its grasp a single clear gem with several facets. Koriss felt drawn to the staff, pulled in by a sense of security. The elf picked it up, feeling its warmth radiate through him with reassurance. It has chosen me Koriss thought as he felt great power pulsing within the wooden staff. Despite the acquisition of the new artifact, Koriss felt terrible for the traders. He gave them a proper burial, and looked at himself in a nearby stream. What he saw in the clear running waters was something fouled by evil, tainted by fell deeds. The elf was disgusted by what he saw, and began to furiously tear his robes off. He dipped them into the river, casting them off like a ship to sea. He then scrubbed all the dirt, blood and filth from his body, rubbing his skin until it bled. Despite his efforts, Koriss felt filthy, ugly, broken. He knew that he could not face his parents knowing that he had failed them so terribly. Rather than heading into his hometown, he turned east, travelling to the nearest port. From there, he would sail to Keltaris, where he would find himself in Eyropa.

Eyropa was a truly terrible place. Within a week of landing in the ports at Keltaris, Koriss found himself being chased by mobs of people shouting "String up that elf by his pointy ears" and "Throw him some meat, see if it makes him squeal!" Appalled by the acts of depravity directed towards him, Koriss fled from the city. He did not stop until he had reached the outer-most boundaries of Eyropa. The elf still found no solace here, either. Upon leaving Eyropa, he found himself in an arid desert, filled with nothing but hot, oppressive air, and miles of sand. After days of wandering aimlessly, the mage found himself on the outskirts of a large city. The locals called it Marn, and he wasn't exactly sure why.

"Hopefully," Koriss said. "The locals will be a bit kinder."

I was reading your app again when it was pointed out to me that Koriss is extremely underweight for his height, not to mention his age. Anyways, I linked this chart to our other new member and I think this could help you out a bit. Here's a height and weight chart for boys.
