Alarm struck Krevster as he saw his efforts to win the half-troll's allegiance begin to tumble like a house of cards. Swift action would be needed to avoid deserving utter hatred from Gargash.

'Errr that won't be necessary.' Krevster said, perhaps a little too quickly, 'We can peruse your journal each night and check in with you at your place of residence... We might approach you for questions at your workplace.' He appeared slightly agitated, nothing serious for most people but to pierce Krevster's composure would be a sign of impending nervous collapse.

Now back in control of the conversation, Krevster eased and continued, 'Full-time surviellance from one of our guardsmen will not be necessary. Just report back to the guardhouse daily and we can find you as needed.'

Deep breath. Relief assailed the room in waves.
If violence is not the answer, you have asked me the wrong question.

Gargash nodded, stood, and went into the adjacent filing office, slipping the report into the slot titled "S to Z." He realized, tasting the inside of his dry mouth, that after this long shift he was parched and hungry. He sat back down.

The situation seemed under control. All that was next was... to see the next move.

'Ah, thank you.' he began, addressing both the monk and the half-troll. 'I take it that will be all?'

With that he turned away, his obligation fulfilled for a good long while. Many emotions whirled inside him at once when he thought of how close he was to completing his term. He joined the guard to work his way to freedom... and now that it was this close... he didn't know what to feel.

Part of him wanted to follow the next success, and never look back. The other part was his soldier's habit, and his abhorrence for a job half-done. On the way out, weighed down by a weariness obvious, but unexplained, to the other two, he declared, 'You should still know where to find me if need be.'

And then, he turned and headed for the exit.
If violence is not the answer, you have asked me the wrong question.
