Gnome
Age 97
Purpose:
Jin is sort of a npc of convenience who just so happened to turn into a rather important figure. He is currently being used as a plot device to spur forward the adventures of Vexako, Shann, Ceallach, and most recently Selena. Jin is the sugar daddy of that particular rp thread, being a stranded artisan-trade prince tasked with the impossible and fed up with the political machinations of his family members and their vying to champion the next Patriarch/leader of the Trizinkaff clan. It's a pretty prestigious clan. Though we are using him now, his clan/family members could be used in other threads. I'll do up a page on them later. Jin himself is very tied up at the moment, but he could be used for various purposes, namely getting into hijinks with pcs and making everyone rich, or contrarily, taking a disliking to them and making them infamous for all the wrong reasons.
Description
Jin does not cut an imposing figure at 3.4 feet and unattractively whip thin, but his harsh and uncompromising personality does the intimidating for him. He always has perfectly tailored clothing to hide whatever physical imperfections he has, and carries himself with an air of majesty. His hands are fine and slender, almost feminine in shape, but he prefers this due to the ease with which he can carry out delicate work. His dark hair is in remarkable contrast with his ghostly pale skin, and his dark eyes stand out with a deeply soulful air. His nose perches haughtily upon his face, and his lips are thin and brooding; appearing to lie in wait to ambush the unwary with a good verbal lashing. All in all he looks like an adult orphan, though he has never wanted for anything and has yet living parents.
He is attractive in the way of the driven, with sharp features and an even sharper tongue, yet none could truly call him handsome. There is nothing soft about him, and no room for sensuality.
He is an obsessive person, caring strictly for his work. All other wants and needs come later, to the detriment of his health. He is desperately in need of an assistant, but refuses to take one on for the irritation of training another person to his habits. Jin typically exists on the border between read to collapse and marginally healthy, and so has a low level of endurance. He typically gets around this with a canny blend of wit and business sense.
Jinhuff does not make friends easily, and it is quite difficult to get into his confidence. He scorns most men, and while he can and does enjoy the pleasures women have to offer, he is typically too busy to partake. His family despair of him ever producing a legetimate child (or finding a mate, for that matter), and so he has been cast into the shadowy lands of the almost-outcast. Few seek to champion him -- not that he would welcome it -- and while he has the best interests of his family at heart his inability to function normally once he gets absorbed into work he is not likely to gain the reins of the Trizinkaff clan, as he believes is his due.
But, despite all of this he is not an unfair person. When called for, he is a fair (if rather reclusive and absentminded) boss, and always pays well those employees who prove themselves exceptional. Those who do not prove worthy or who manage to tick him off he goes out of his way to ruin.
Strengths
When it comes to the mechanical, the man is a genius. He is creative, and holds an open mind in regard to persuing ideas.
Incredibly wealthy
Due to his prowess he holds a small measure of influence over Eyropan society.
He understands and knows the graces necessary to be successful in court.
Does very well in a strictly work environment
Weaknesses
Obsessive about his work to the point his health suffers.
He does not care about upholding the graces necessary to be successful in court, resulting in several scandals and often getting him into trouble with nobility and family alike.
Has issues behaving in a socially acceptable fashion outside of the work environment. Does not do very well around women.
Huge, ginormous ego.
Just a little height complex. Some taller people treat him like a child, and this causes him to fly into a most uncouth rage when the treatment persists.
History
Ehh. I have a general idea, but I want to keep it open in case I need to change him around.
-Born to Merni Joschum and Prestoun Trizinkoff.
- 5 siblings: 4 brothers and 1 sister.
- First began experimenting at around age 10. Hailed as a prodigy at age 15.
- Hints of anti social behavior show up at 16.
- Treated as an outcast by his family by age 26.
-Family sort of unanimously decides he shouldn't step within 50 feet of becoming the next Patriarch by age 34.
- His designs start to not be properly credited to him in his fourth decade.
- He rebels. The resulting storm of scandal across the Eyropan provinces are a cause of shame for the Trizinkaff clan, and sales of their inventions plummet. He is confined to house arrest for the next 15 years.
- Upon his release he is more withdrawn and even less social than before. He refuses to interact with anyone when he is working. He continues in this fashion until he reaches his 80th decade, where the scale of his projects requires he contracts others for certain steps. Having gained some space from his family's caculative interactions, his social behavior improves slightly.
- At 94 the health of the current Trizinkaff Patriarch declines. All eligible young men and ladies are set with the task of producing specific inventions for the people of the village they are sent to, and to arrange trade deals with these people. In an attempt to sabotage Jin, his family sends him to the backwards and remote village of Trelham.
- Trelham proves unwilling to work with Jin, and in his frustration he sets himself to a task huge in scope, that might alter the way gnomes build technology that interacts with magic forever. . . should he actually succeed in getting his prototype to be used, that is.
