Alexsandr Adversus

Post by Alexsandr » Mon Nov 22, 2010 3:20 pm

Name: Lex (Alexsandr) Adversus
Age:19
Height:6'7"
Weight:255 lbs

Physical Description: Alexsandr is tall, 6'7", and due to his height, his weight of 255 pounds makes him look emaciated, like he is in desperate need of food. Contrary to the belief that he is to small for anything, Lex is quite muscular for his size, just not massive muscles. He's 'wiry as a rat' as he likes to laugh and tell people. He has bright blue eyes with a mischievous twinkle in them. He has bright red hair, around 5 inches long. With his multiple cowlicks, hair that thinks it is supposed to be wavy, and a subconscious habit the run his hands through his hair, it sticks up in many different directions, and is almost impossible to tame. He has a small curly, wiry beard, that he usually keeps trimmed to run in a thinnish stripe from he hair down his jaw to his chin, where the hair is a bit longer. The beard is kept trimmed close, while the goatee is about two inches long. Lex has scars from being flogged on his back, and they are deep, thick and numerous. He also has a rope burn scar around his neck, two scars that run straight from his wrist to his inner elbow, a scar that bisects his left eyebrow, two scars from nails being hammered through his feet, and a scar that runs from were his collarbone meets to his bellybutton. He also has large hands with long capable fingers and large wide feet. He wears boots that come to mid-calf, brown pants, a green tunic, and a gray cloak.

Powers: Lex has a couple 'surprises up his sleeves'. The problem with Lex's spells is that all except for Cats Eyes drain his life and energy. If he kept up a working or kept using it over and over, he would most likely become famished, dehydrated, and have the affect of not sleeping for days. Keeping it up after these effects become known to him would kill him.

Cats Eyes: As a child, certain enchantments were placed on Lex. One of these was the Cats Eyes. Lex's eyes react to light and dark situations much like a cats if he speaks the word "felixus". This does not mean that he can see in absolute darkness, but a little bit of light can be enough for him to see clearly by. His eyes do react like a cats as well, slitting and expanding with the light. A sudden torch or lamp thrust into a low light room with Lex in it can dazzle him if the enchantment is active.

Juggernaut: With the Juggernaut enchantment, all Lex has to murmur is "invictus", and he can become invincible for a short period of time. The length of said time is directly related to how much injury he would have sustained without it. For example, if Lex was to sit in a small room and activate it, he could remain invulnerable indefinitely. But, if he activated it as a large, skilled, and infuriated swordsman was smashing his sword into his vital bits, then it would only last for 15-20 minutes, just long enough for him to run away. (He knows from experience. Her husband was supposed to be out out of town for another week dammit!)

Claws of Arathrak: A battle spell, a killing spell. There is no word to activate this spell, merely a thought for it to be there. It causes claws made of cursed steel to erupt from the ends of Lex's fingers, and they are around four and a half inches long. They are razor sharp, black, and pretty much have an aura of malice and death. Lex doesn't even like using them, and they make him feel dirty and corrupted, like he was dipped in a vat of blood and filth. This is a last resort spell, when Lex feels like their is no other option for him to use.

Sacrifice to the Maelstrom: The darkest spell in Lex's arsenal of magic. It has only been used twice since it was imparted to him. It's basically Lex allowing a demon to shred the astral plane, imparting it's strength to Lex for a short period of time. This spell is disgusting to Lex. It grants him speed, strength and rage. It also gives him bloodlust, hatred, and the taste for torture. He refuses to use it, and may continue. As Lex's personality slowly spins out of control, there is no telling. He may use it one day, his final dance for death.

Comedy: Lex is a funny guy. He tries to make people laugh, and he will go out of his way to make people he likes laugh. He also is calculating about it. He knows that the person thought to be a fool or an idiot can learn the most out of everyone if they play their cards right. All it takes is a little luck and a good knock knock joke.

Weaknesses and Character Flaws:

Anger: For someone like Lex, anger isn't a small problem. It's what he was bred for. The use of the word "Ira" can turn him from a jocular young man into a blood thirsty lunatic. When Lex first started walking the wide world, he met someone who's name was Ira. The true evil of his rage is Lex remembers what he does. The screams, the blood, him holding the man above his head, shredding his chest cavity, dancing in his blood. It is something he can't control, he can't stop. part of his travels is a search for a magician that can lift that particular weakness from him.

Kleptomania: Lex is a klepto. He HAS to steal things. They aren't always valuable. Usually, he doesn't even know he has picked up something and took it, until the shop owner is grabbing him calling thief. Most of the flogging scars of Lex's back are from theft. He considers himself lucky that he was never caught stealing in a place that still believes in hand removal. A careful watcher can notice as Lex walks through an area, his hands pick and plunder items from everywhere. Lex has been known to go to wherever he is staying, empty his pockets, and feel like absolute shit for stealing, especially the stupid things he steals. He uses it to his advantage sometimes, like when he walks into jewelry stores of food marts.

Lust: Lex is horny. Extremely. Sometimes he can control it, and sometimes he cannot. If he is lucky, he finds a prostitute just in time, and after a few hours, it settles into a low buzz, something that is annoying, but not a driving need, a hunger. If he is unlucky, a poor girl is unlucky as well. Lex is most definitely not above rape to satisfy his needs. Sure, he feels bad about it, and may grant the unlucky female a couple bishan for what he has done, but it's still rape. The next bad part about the raping? Lex is has extremely potent seed. Nine of ten women that he rapes become impregnated. There's is most likely up to 50 children running around the world with Lex's red hair and blue eyes.

Self-Harm: Lex pays for his sins. For that is what he believes he commits, sins. He uses a razor sharp knife to carve a line for every sin, and some sins are worth more lines than others. If he is very angry at himself, Lex will steal something in a town and let himself be beaten. The rope scar around his neck is from where he first came to the regular world and raped a woman. He let himself be caught and hanged, but at the last moment decided he did not want to die and called upon the claws to cut the ropes and run.

Possessions: Other than his clothes and small items he's stolen that day, Lex only carries three items from day to day. His bow and arrows, so that he may hunt, which he is fairly proficient at, a hunting knife to skin animals, carve meat, whatever he needs to do, and a necklace with a small canine tooth on it, the only bit of jewelry Lex has ever owned.

History:

Alexsandr Adversus was born to an Eyropian mother, specifically from Trelham and a father from Athena. The marriage between these two burned hot and fiery for the first three years of Alexsandrs life, and then it cooled. His father began drinking, and his mother began seeing another man. Coming home from the tavern, his father caught his wife in bed with her new lover. Not saying anything, he grabbed a 4 year old Lex and left, Lex's mother not even caring that her child was being taken from her. His father traveled to Corezo and sold the "last reminder of that lying bitch he would ever see."

Lex was sold to a man who in turned sold him to the servant of a dark mage. The mage arrived and took Lex for his twisted experiments, taking him by portal to the mostly unknown region of Ayana. His family torn asunder, trapped in the service of a dark mage, and all of 4 years old, Lex cried in his fear. The mage scoffed at this, and decided to give the child something to cry about, summoning a Terror Demon from the astral plane and forcing it into the 4 year olds body, causing incredible pain, ripping into Lex's consciousness and very nearly shredding it.

From that day forth, his "training" started. The mage's wants were simply. A fearless, bloodthristy, ruthless guard, one who could produce more like him if need be. What he got was Lex. A child who had such a sense of humor, happiness and purity that he could not be completely corrupted by the mage. For every act of evil, Lex was rewarded in dark, twisted ways. Women, either willing or not, succubus demons, rituals that increased Lex's power and baser instincts, all these were his for his evil.

But an act of kindness, that granted only pain. Stronger demons of terror were forced into Lex, demons of hate, anger, blood, anything to attempt to rip the good from his soul. It worked to a degree. Lex is no longer pure, innocent, but he still has those qualities, just tarnished a bit. At the age of 14, ten years in the mages service, Lex found a dog. A ragged, mutated almost unrecognizable thing, it greeted Lex by licking his face and curling in a ball at the floor next to him. Lex was enchanted by the animal, and named him Agis. The dog was well hidden in Lex's room, and Lex's good qualities began to grow stronger, his "insubordination" to the mage happening more often. After a particular intense session with a Nightmare Demon, the demon reported to the mage the existence of the dog, ripped from Lex's very conscious.

Charging into Lex's room, he caught the boy feeding the dog some hard won food. Snarling in rage, the mage turned to the door, as he walked out, he whispered... "Ira."

When Lex emerged from his enraged state, Agis was dead. All that was left was chunks of broken bone and scraps of flesh. Finding one whole canine tooth of the dog, Lex decided to keep it, and decided the mage would pay. He swore it.

For the neck 4 years Lex did what the mage wanted. He immersed himself into darkness and hate, becoming a demon in human form. The mage thought he had won, thought he had created something that would follow his commands unquestioningly. So, he clad Lex in armor made of demonic influenced metals, "blessed" with the blood of innocents, and scimitar that was a sheet of metal folded over and over a thousand and one times, each fold sharpened, so as the blade was used, it wore away to a sharper edge each time. Standing on his balcony, the mage dreamed of the conquest his new guard would help him accomplish, and the army he would use him to breed. As he turned from the balcony and walked into the room, he heard three words as the candles went out, all but one, as they were cut in half by a sword. "Felixus... Invictus.... IRA."

After the death of the mage, Lex had an option. He was largely immune to all but the most dedicated of mages, was a excellent swordsman, and was enchanted. He could have found a worthy evil, and took over Anaya. Or, he could find a boat, and sail to Eyropa and find his family. So that is what he did.

Arriving in Eyropa, he traveled by foot and stolen horse to Trelham. Asking around, he found his mothers house, expecting a happy reunion. He could not be further from the true. Opening the door, she took one look at her son and began yelling and cursing at him, for what did she want with him? Aye, she recognized her son immediatly, his hair and his eyes were to distinctive. Growing angry at his mother, a woman who had seemed to never love him, Lex pulled out his sword and sliced her head from her neck. Wlaking into the house, he treated all he found inside in the same way. He travled south, and finding his father, now a drunken sot and footpad, Lex used a dagger and sacrificed his father to the demons of the void.

Now Lex travels to Thar Shaddin, looking for something, something even he knows not what.

Ouch. Any reasons why? Constructive criticism maybe? You know, something like that instead of what looks like no help at all?

The biggest reason is that the character is extremely overpowered. We request that new characters start off being weak, and then eventually grow into their powers. From what I'm reading in your app you're basically saying he is capable of taking over a continent.
What I would do, were I you, would be to take most of those powers and strip them (maybe say that due to the trauma of his history they were locked deep into his subconscious, and will only come out given lots of time), leaving maybe only Cat's Eyes and Claws of Arathrak. Those are great for a starting character, but the others are much too powerful. (Well, excluding comedy) Also, I feel that the weaknesses are empowering as well. What they boil down to is that Lex can rape women at will, and is able to basically become a beserker.

This bothers him, as you said, but unless it is crippling to him mentally (putting him into a state of shock, making him suicidal but too cowardly to go through with it, depression, alcoholism -- stuff that would make a person unable to act or would harm their bodies physically so after time they have health problems, or making them unable to act or scared to go into the real world -- that sort of thing) they aren't strong enough weaknesses to balance any of that.

At this point I would recommend keeping the concept and maybe doing an overhaul (start a new thread) with much less power. Most characters here are very weak due to the fact that there's not much fighting that happens and also due to the fact that we ask new players to start off with weaker characters. If this app had been accepted as is your character would have been the second or third strongest character on the entire board, able to go toe to toe with the strongest authority figures without need for fear of reprisal -- that's why it had to be rejected.

I didn't think it needed an explanation, but I'll explain.

Read the first sentence of the rules page for character creation. Then read it again. Then read the next paragraph.
Being a 255 lb monster with magical claws, demonic speed and strength, and the ability to become completely invulnerable for a minimum of 15 minutes (this is 15 straight minutes of being continuously hacked at by a sword, never mind that it actually lasts indefinitely and that most people are physically incapable of hacking at something for 15 minutes) is such a blatant disregard for those rules that we felt it was unsalvageable.

I think you didn't read the rules, and that you are operating on such a completely different level that a slap in the face was necessary. When your first character here is contemplating taking over an entire continent because he's just that unstoppable, he's too powerful to play. Never mind it being your first one (an invincible warrior is not something anyone here would play unless it was for a plot).

I could go on with more in depth details about how his personality is an unexplained, unreconciled mix of moral self loathing and brazen psychopathic carelessness, exemplified in the oscillation between moral purity in one scene and its absence in all the others. That could be worked through with a lot more writing and consideration. But the rest can't.
