Summary: Having run afoul of a city informant, Derin, a new girl in town, has attracted the notice of the City Guard for possibly using dangerous illegal magic, and the kind old lady Saruna is implicated for harbouring criminals. Somehow, they must find a way to evade guard attention or prove their innocence, or they may never get to live happily ever after.

We are looking for new players to join the story, either as guards, informants or possible allies for Saruna and Derin. We're flexible, really.

Hee, love the title. Hmm, you went first on the last one so I can take first post on this one. How long do you think it has been between the last thread and this one? Since Derin and Saruna are kinda low priority (no for sure witness to magic use), I'd think maybe around a month?

A months sounds good. It gives Saruna and Derin time to get comfortable with each other, and Derin a bit of time to get to know the town.

And Derin time to finish making a normal dress so she doesn't dress like a forest-dwelling mercenary or bandit.

Hrm. If there's any guard characters who are in need of a thread maybe we can try to recruit them. I'll check tomorrow -- procrastination, yes!

Saruna + Derin = awesome. The constant two-way social misinterpretation is straight out of a comedy show.

There doesn't appear to be much in the way of guards looking for threads (except my guard character, who is free but useless to us, dammit!), but there's a werewolf who likes to protect people. Would he help? (There's usually more people looking for threads than this, I'm sure of it...)

Where are we taking the story from here if we can't find someone to join? Just have some guards turn up at the house or something? Or perhaps corner them separately, so they can't plot together -- get Saruna at her house and Derin at the inn while she's working? (Do you want to see Saruna and Derin in a prisoner's dilemma half as much as I do?)

Man, this would work so much better with a third person as an interrogator.

You know I just may be interested. Fayane! Haven't heard from you for ages; I thought you'd abandoned us.

So how are we going to do this, then? Derin and Saruna are currently at Saruna's house.

Hrm, I wanted to get a minor subplot going before we brought in the big guns, just to sort of get an idea of how lovely and normal things have been. And yes, I do want to see them in a jail cell. You know how it is.

Maybe the next morning a guard will arrive? I'm not sure how to go about it. Do they get arrested immediately? Do they have the opportunity to defend themselves at all? Do they try to run away?

Actually my laptop died suddenly and painfully (wouldn't even boot up) so I had to send it to the computer docs once I could afford it... and had no real access to the net so yeah... anyways! I definitely agree on the subplot first - adds more drama or emotion to the whole thing... both will have a chance to defend themselves as Faya will most likely hesitate... I'm feeling she'll only be sent in to check things out, then things just get bigger. x3 Seems like that's how it usually goes :3 I'm up for just about anything at the moment just lemme know what you want me to do ^^

Awesome. 'Normal interaction' between Saruna and Derin is never normal.

Saruna trying subtly to set Derin up with men could make a plot in itself. *notes for future reference*

Chivalrous barbarian iceman... I think we can work with that, can't we? Might be tough to incorporate him unless he has business in Shim, or we get Saruna and Derin arrested and taken to the guard tower first.

Okay, I have an idea. Maybe once Derin sits down to do her dress work Saruna will go to a merchant she knows with a son around Derin's age. While Saruna is gone, Fayane shows up at the house, and while Saruna is out, she meets Kori.

Alternatively, we can have Fayane show up in the morning while Derin is gone, and Kori show up at the inn while Derin is working?

Let's figure out who's showing up when before I commit to one or the other in a post. >>

The barbarian is just kind of wandering right now, and his biggest money maker is guarding caravans and traders. So if there is a caravan to be found, he could potentially be there. And if the inn serves alcohol, Kori will find the place.
