Well (not that I'm a sadist or anything, nosirree, not me  ) given that our group can't communicate properly about anything, I'd say the first possibility is highly unlikely. I'd vote the 'let's have a fun romp through the criminal underground' route so that my little hoity-toity jester will get a good lesson in reality. I'm willing to go for prickly times and maybe a finger or two, but unless we find ourselves writing in a corner, I'm for not letting it get too serious.

Just a thought, but if we send two characters to the merchants and one of them happens to tip off the guards, that would set it up nicely for all sorts of wonderful hijinkery. They could get separated and one could get caught by the guards and the other by the bad guys (my favorite outcome, I'm all for that sort of delicious borderline irony) or they could both be found by the bad guys or something suitably awesome, and meanwhile the two back at the inn would be going WTF and could wander off and get involved in trouble of their own and it would be fun times all around.

...that's my thought. Opinions? I'm next, so I want to hear them before I start formulating.

Well, as usual, I'm up for whatever the rest of you wanna go with. Erryl is pretty much relying on the other three to keep him alive, so if you wanna lead him straight to his death, by all means, do so!

Boy steals the prize, absorbs its power, gains some sort of dark ability. Others have to find and capture/cure/kill him quickly before Marn's guards get suspicious as otherwise things could end badly for them.

Cue Jester's naive and confused moralising as she probably tries to "save" the child, Iarei's general anger and possible maternal conflict, Dirken probably trying to sell the kid out to the guards for quick cash, and Erryl trying to stay alive.

Oh, and don't forget those guys who want their treasure back. They're probably not going to be ahppy about the situation and might want the boy for themselves if they figure out what's happened; in fact the group might have to keep it secret from them too for their own safety (or enlist them as allies in finding the boy).

*is iarei* Dirken's plan sounds viable to me. Did we ever decide on what exactly the figures do? I like them separating first though before boy steals the figurines (again) from Iarei. Maybe they already have a hook in his mind.

Also, I totally forgot he got bitten by a dog. Go me. I will make a terrible parent one day. . .

Separate? Not a problem; if those guys following us make their presence known again the first this Dirk will do is head off to bargain with them, because he is stupid.

Well, considering we've written the statues to be basically hold-em-alls for whatever kind of magic we desire, we could go any which way. One could be a giant ball of lightning and the other could be a slow, insidious curse which alters the holder's behavior into something sinister and vaguely psychopathic, like the Ring did to Golem (don't hate me for my allusions). I think of them as both subtle types of curse-ish magic used against enemies of the underground or whoever wants to buy them.

But, since Boy gets the honor of activating one of them first, I'd say you get free reigns with it, Iarei. Go for whatever tickles your stoat.

Erryl: what do you say to an ambush of either Dirken or Erryl by the original owners of the statues? They can strike up a deal to get them back, since neither of them know that one of them is missing at this point.

Problem is that with Dirken's personality, it'd take some fast talking not to get Erryl taken as a hostage, which is something that we probably want to avoid.

I really think Dirken's plan should backfire and have him being ambushed by a couple of thugs. Maybe Erryl could even get some information from someone before it happens. I dunno what help Erryl'd be in getting Dirken out of a situation like that though. He's more likely to keep out of the way, but if Dirken can talk his way out of it, come to some sort of arrangement with them, possibly to exchange the statues for a price or to help the bad guys get them back themselves, with or without Erryl knowing about it - I suggest he overhears the conversation without Dirken realising it - then Erryl and Dirken can continue their search for information or whatever else they were doing.

Just a suggestion. I'm fine with whatever you want to do.

Statue-grabbing thugs it is. It's about time for Dirk to make a fool of himself.

Why is it that the short posts seem so much harder to write? :|

Because they have to be that much better, and you're always second guessing yourself if it's not long enough. XD Long posts lull you into a false sense of security.
