He sometimes wears leather gloves depending on the work he does. Often seen to be right handed but does use his left hand better then most though not quite ambidexterous. He wears a pair of mechanics goggles used for his inventing and driving his cart (no bugs in ze eyes). Voice sounds like a high barotone, some hints of scratchiness. Talks in a polite almost childlike manner in general, except when he is flirting, being crude, or angry.

-A gnomish lighter whose flames show up as different colors with each flick
-hand made cigarettes.
-A Steam Cart Vehicle (See bottom for description.)
-Pens and Paper for invention plans and fictional stories
Powers or Strengths:
Gnome
-Use of Steam Cart for travel, speed and ram attack.
-Inventiveness along with knowledge.
-Persistence (especially when womanizing)
-Magic Potential as a Gnome
-Charismatic, making friends with a lot of people
-Activities...In Bed!
Australian Bulldog
-quick transformation (activated either way by a sneeze)
-basic animal language understanding
-looks, has the abilities of, and magically identified as an Australian Bulldog
-no magical dispel
-dogs sniffing and hearing abilities
-heals between forms (see weaknesses note on silver)
Weaknesses:
Gnome-Standard physical strength for building inventions means hardly any for combat. Often he depends on an external source to use in battle. Hates black licorice and feels sick at the smell of it. Does not like spiders of any sort and has the tendency to want them smashed. Does like a good smoke but it does sidetrack him not to mention it is unhealthy. Twice a year he catches a major cold or flu laying him in bed for at least two days, effects could last up to a month. While his immunity system is used to city life he does get allergies and colds when he travels.
-Doesn't like people moving his stuff
-keeps an unorderly work place where only he can find the stuff he wants
-While Coreman is a womanizer and every so often hits the mark, women count as a weakness for Coreman because well, his mind goes to the gutter around them unless something sobers him up.
Australian Bulldog
-Colorblindness and closed sighted by half normal distance.
-Inability to communicate by humanoid means. More instinctual so can be distracted by cats, treats, and toys.
Affects of Silver
-Silver stops the magical healing process between forms changing it to a regular rate of healing. Slows down transformation process leaving him vulnerable for longer.
Affects of Black Licorice
Upon smell: retching and nausea.
Eating: Causes illness to the point of throwing up.
History: Coreman has spent up to the present in his life living in Marn. His parents a gemcutter and a housewife. Before magic laws were enacted his father made a magical gemcutting knife which was later passed down to Coreman after his father disappeared making a delivery of gems. He was attacked by a Cynanthrope (dog shifter) when he was little then learned to speak to other dogs through his transformation and the help of his childhood pet dog.
At 30 he was put into the gnomish education system in the university where he learned alchemy, history, mathematics, reading and writing. He also learned from his father, who was a famous gemcutter in his time, about gemcutting. From his mother Coreman learned gardening and respect for magic in life. In his later years of schooling Coreman developed a passion for engineering and made that his main study and career goal. As a final project he had to engineer something to show his skills to a council of nine licensed engineers. He eventually came upon the idea for a mechanical carriage after being dumped on by a horse as a carriage passed over him on the way to his classes. His main idea was to use steam but found that most of the time steam engines using fuel, coals, or most means of heat tended to either get too hot to ride on or tended to blow up. He eventually came up with plans for a steam engine using a dragon's lung as the heat source. This is due to the dragons lunge creating heat on the inside while staying at an organ temperature on the outside. There fore no heat up problems. Upon presentation of his invention he got a reward for it but was told it could not be put into production do to time, effort, and costs.
After graduating around 40 he has been working in a gemcutting factory and working on his engineering inventions. His goals in life seem to be to better his trade in engineering, find a good woman or women, have a bigger place to live with a workshop of his own, and to continuously learn. Besides for his reward for his steam cart his only other recognition was that his gemcutting skills were as good as his father's. He is relatively known by most that go to the Drunken Rat Tavern, as an annoyance or friend. He has been known as a bit of a womanizer and is often seen with different girls whenever he does ensnare one. His current projects are in various new uses for steam powered mechanics.
Notes on Steam Cart: Looks like a box cart with a plow and steaming contraption on the back. A dragons lung is used to heat the water to create steam pressure to move the back wheels. Does involve steering. Normally goes at a max speed of 40 MPH, but in emergency situations can be made to go 120MPH. Plow in front is used to move rubbish and rubble out of the way. Cart is sturdy enough to be used as a ramming weapon. Also small enough to fit through the door of Coreman's apartment. Dragon lung needs to be surrounded by chicken gravy once a month.

Re: Coreman Fairport
I see that you are still working on this so I won't judge it as a completed character yet, but I will say that I would like to see more of a description written about his inventions. I'm assuming his lighter is one, with that one I'm not so concerned but I would like to see some more on his cart. In the history of Thar Shaddin only one other gnome has made a car/cart type vehicle (then he died in a car accident) and so this character would be unique in the fact that he would be the only living person to have possession of such a thing.

Re: Coreman Fairport
Minor correction meesh: he'd be the only person in Marn to own a motorized vehicle. There are others in other places.
The previous motorized vehicle in Marn was owned by a wealthy human, and exploded about two years ago (in both ic and ooc time). I don't consider it unreasonable for another one or two to get made. The main reason for their lack of popularity is a lack of means of mass production, and skepticism on the part of consumers, who don't want to get into gnomish contraptions. At least my horse doesn't explode.

Re: Coreman Fairport
Ok, so let me see here. I was thinking of using perpetual movement and magic to make the cart go but now where going more into SteamPunk Magic technology. If so that then I may want to spruce things up more with my character and get into the role. That is how far could I go with that technology? If I could have steampunk mech armors like the gnomes in WoW?
Editing abit more once I'm done with this post, but wont put it up for judgement till I know abit more of the in's and outs of the above.
Oh, and are lighter's allowed or not here. I'm thinking it as a standard lighter. Not something fancy or magical. I'm assuming I am using up my unique points with the knife, flask, and goCart (what I'll call it ATM)? I figured those would be notice worthy without being too.... game changing / godmod deals. At least for the start. As I stated above the gocart could develop into other things but I figure I'll earn that in RP.
Also with all that in mind, is the Bulldog werewolfism another cherry on top or handle able?

Re: Coreman Fairport
Fruggles I wasn't wrong, though I should have explained it better. I said Thar Shaddin as in Marn, Shim and the tiny patch of woods, not as in the entire world. But seeing as how the forum is named after this small piece of the world, yeah that could be confusing.
And now to answer to Fur. First of all, don't mention that game here, Fruggles will go all crazy with his hammer. The banhammer. Hehehe.
Okay now that I have that out of my system, I personally have no problems with steampunk magic gnomish inventions. We already consider gnomish inventions to be slightly magical in a way, not the traditional magic way, but their own special gnome magic that relates to machines, technology and their crazy inventions.
I'll allow the lighter. I would love for it to be one of his inventions and have some weird problem with it that makes gnome inventions so wonderfully entertaining, but I will settle for pretty standard lighter. I also have no problem with the flask. As far as the description of it went, it has me thinking of something along the lines of non-stick bake ware. I'm curious as to why the knife can't cut living things. I wouldn't have a problem with him having some really sharp knife that could cut through gems or people. The cart is the big invention that I want to see explained, the other things are just minor objects that are their to bring out part of the character.
As far as the werewolfism, I want to see that listed in powers/strengths. I want to know what abilities or weaknesses he gains with his shifting power. Can he heal at a quicker rate than a non-shifting gnome? Does he have a weakness to silver? Can he shift at will or is it triggered by the moon? It should be listed in his history as to if he became a werewolf/dog shifter or if he was born as one. Other than that, I have no problem with him being a shifter. We don't have it specified in our race section that shifters can only look like humans and that only humans can be bitten by werewolf creatures. As far as I am concerned, there are probably shifters that can take on the form of a gnome, elf, fairy, troll and every other type of race.

Re: Coreman Fairport
Oh I've fought plenty of banhammer, teehee. Actually the same one over and over again on an old forum for similar pet peeves of the admin there. Nah, I'm not a big fan of that game either. I don't want to waste my money on something monthly when there are plenty of free options. I just came across the wiki entry when I was doing gnome research.
Hmmm... you may be right on the lighter, giving it a gnomish charm. I'll think on that abit. Yeah you're pretty much right on the spot with the flask. I'm not sure if I should place gnomish trickery on that though. I'm thinking I'm going to condense the descriptions down. Don't you all just love the character building process lol. I should think of a story line reason for the knife not cutting people. But I initially did it because of it's magical properties of being able to cut gem's,nails, and hair like butter. Sorta counter balance its' uses. I'll be working on the steampunk gocart. Anyways alot of the description above will be changed and updated as I poke around with the stuff.
Anyways thanks for stepping me through this. I'm trying to match my creativity to your world settings. And I haven't built this much of a character profile in a long time. And to think I had 4 or 5 of these things, whilst all on one site, was a hassle.

Re: Coreman Fairport
A wick and flint, zippo style lighter is fine and would probably be a common choice for people. Matches could exist but, again, without mass production facilities they'd be less practical, I think. A pressurized gas lighter would be a gnomish thing.
This setting is described as steam and magic. Steampunk is alright too, but suggests that technology is more pervasive and that everyone's house has giant pipes coming from it and big cast iron doodads in their pockets. One could mention final fantasy or wow, but just... don't.
The link between gnomish inventions and magic is a complicated nuance of the setting and I won't get into it here. They are the link between magic and non-magic. They're half magic.
Could someone have a fully mechanized suit of armor to walk around in that shoots lasers out of its wrists? Yes. Can you? No. There has been something close in Marn. Gizmo, one of the guards, is a good example. I did draw the line once at artificial intelligence or autonomy. That's beyond even gnomes.

Re: Coreman Fairport
I didn't really figure anything like that. More like the first ironman suit with only the punchy bit. Basically a clunky slow machine, with maybe more strength then what is allowed Coreman regularly. But that's mainly for future reference so let's put that on a shelf for me to earn. Right now though I'm making the go cart deal as sorta a starter study. As my character goes I'd like to let him figure out more tricks of the trade and develop into other things.
Re: Coreman Fairport
Idea for go cart
Due to small size it can actually fit through the door of Coremans apartment since the apartment and it's door was made for a human occupant.
Ok, steam engine go cart fantasy setting. Here's what I got
Basic frame, Wheels, Plough(plow) (huh, firefox says its spelled wrong but Plough is the original name for like, farming plow equipment. Plow just was like the slang spelling. Now it's the most commonly accepted spelling. Go figure
)) for street rubble and dirt in the front.
Engine: Air Pump to dragon lung to convert air to hydrocarbon, sent into another chamber to be converted to flame. Two Gallons of Water, each lasts 8 hours. Heat from flame sent through with water to create steam and put in a chamber to be released when (something like a gas pedel or a lever) and start motion in the engine using steam pressure to use a piston. The piston causes the back wheels to turn. Steam Pressure controls speed.. If the governor is turned on regularly max speed is 40MPH. In emergency situations the governor can be disconnected and the max speed could go up to 125MPH.
Steam release pressured out a tube low to the ground so as to not hurt anyone who isn't tolerant to the steam's heat.
Note, have to hand pump the air pump to get the dragon lung started. place hand over air pump's airvent to block off air, sufficating dragon's lung and stopping it for awhile.
Vary obvious steering column much like old style steering wheels in the front. Notched hand dial to control speeds. Usually hits a stopper at the 40mph mark. When governor is disconnected the stopper drops down to let dial pass. Guages for water amount, gravy weight, speed, and steampressure all on the same board as the steering wheel and speed dial (lol).
Note about Dragon Lung; requires chicken gravy once a month to continue living.
Sense of Time: Takes a half hour to get from residential district to industrial district. Partly due to people congestion on the streets. If it was a straight line
Side notes: Ideas, hiccups? Once and awhile the dragon lung will hiccup, either causing a stop in it's breathing process (engine stalls) or a quick accident spurt of steam/speed. It either fixes itself or dragon lung compartment needs to be opened and a spoonful of sugar, some vodka, or a squirt of lemon juice needs to be mixed into the gravy. Or one could just 'kill' the engine (hold its breath turn off method again). (ideas for cures gotten from regular hiccup cures I've used) Next to the driver there are side posts holding lanterns firmly. Light them up at night for light.
Well, let me know what you all think. My idea of a fantasy medieval level steam engine. Should I add more then "hiccups" to it. Should I have another tube going from the dragon lung to the front to make a flamethrower? lol.

(section by section, every once and awhile submitting to save my work from evil reset on my computer. Adding notes to each section before refining. Yes I know, seems like alot of work but this is the detail I want to put into my main character. If you have comments on the notes or ideas please let me know whats up.)
Player Name: Furzball
Name: Coreman Fairport (Cor-Man Fair-Port)
Age: 50 (Supposedly 272 PW)
-Note: If converted to a human lifespan and what age he looks in human years, 16 and a half or else 17 years old.
Race:Gnome / Cynanthrope ( dog shifter/ Australian Bulldog )
Height:3 feet/ 92 centimeters
Weight:40 pounds
Personality:
Physical Description: Coreman generally leaves his dark brown hair in a bedhead of curliness even though it is still considered close cut. No sideburns or beard to speak of. He likes to keep these short since they get itchy to him. His (regular round) chocolate brown eyes often alight in his joking character. He has white skin like that of the caucasian man. He has the standard stockiness and thickness of his short race being 3 feet tall and 40 pounds. His favorite set of clothes being overalls (farmer cut) made from brown leather with a large gray cotton shirt, usually longer then his arms so he folds the sleeves back. He often wears steel toed leather boots that go halfway up his shines. These he makes himself and rarely since they last at minimum 10 years.
Possessions: A gemcutting knife from his father. It is a short gemlike blade of three inches long, serves only to cut gems, hair, and nails (finger and two nails). It will not cut anything else and the blade is not felt by normal living flesh. It cannot even puncture flesh using the tip but also close to indestructable unless by strong magical means. The reason it does cut what it does is cause it vibrates at a magical frequency different from most physical frequencies. Coreman always carries this knife in his back pocket. He also carries a regular flask with him, the only speciality is its' slick insides are able to ride themselves of any moisture if tilted upside down and given a few good shakes. Leaving less chance of juices and such leaving a rotten mess inside. Coreman often carries a lighter and cigarretes he personally makes. Coreman often carries writing material of pens and paper for writing down ideas for fictional stories or inventions. Always carries a small amount of bishan for everyday purchases. He often travels around in a cart like device that runs on steam. While in good shape he drives this purely for the speed that he normally doesnt get from running. In fact there are some moments that his speed with this device can often beat normal creatures. If it comes to a fight Coreman's cart is often good enough for ramming purposes.
Powers or Strengths: Inventive and knowledgeable about various things. This is due to his like of reading and other forms of gaining knowledge. He seems to imprint a bit of magic and life into his creations from his stories or inventions. Though this is unconscious. He does have a ways of becoming friends to everyone and often friends a way into the hearts of women either as a good friend or something more. To which he is also good at...ahem... those activities with the physical characteristics to pleasure most women even twice his height. Has only standard physical strength to help him build his inventions.
When Coreman has to sneeze he changes into a pure white furred bulldog (australian bulldog) and the same turning back to gnome. No special attributes to his dog form other then the dog having obvious unnatural intelligence. Undetected being more then a dog by magic. Cannot be dispelled by magic. He heals between forms but heals at a normal rate when he stays in one due to change in metabolism. Can only reproduce sounds a dog can make. Communicates with dogs and slightly with other animals. Increased sense of smell.
Weaknesses: Gnome Form. Standard physical strength for building inventions means hardly any for combat.
Dog Form: Colorblindness and closed sighted by half normal distance.
Silver stops the magical healing process between forms changing it to a regular rate of healing. Slows down transformation process leaving him vulnerable for longer.
Inability to communicate by humanoid means. More instinctual so can be distracted by cats, treats, and toys.
History: Coreman's first 30 years were like that of any gnomish child of Marn. His birth pet was a sturdy golden retreiver, named Gilgamesh, whom Coreman would often ride on. During Coreman's first ten years his days were filled with the exploration of children and Kinship with his pet Gilgamesh. From it he learned the language of dogs. Soon after his tenth year Gilgamesh died of what Coreman's parents called "The Parvonian Curse". To which Coreman experienced first hand what death is like for the first time. After which time Coreman spent more time with children his age and the other dogs of the village. One stray that came into town attacked them and when Coreman came to the other dogs defense was bitten by the stray. Since then at times when Coreman has to sneeze he changes into a pure white furred bulldog (australian bulldog) and the same turning back to gnome. He has found his uses in this. Especially once he got into school at 30. Whilst he did crave knowledge he also didn't like being constantly watched over. He was one to go about things his way. He learned from both his mother and father. His mother taught him methods in gardening and flourishing of the life in the garden. Whilst his father, being one of the best gemcutters in the city, passed on his methods and favorite tool to his son. During his first three years of school he had gnomish general studies of alchemy, history, mathematics, reading and writing. After which he'd choosen the specialization of general mechanical engineering, to which he studied for the next three years. His last three years of schooling were in independent study in which he tinkered in various more things including magics. Afterwards he presented his final project (the go cart: whenever finished revisions) to 9 of his elder mechanics. After which they quizzed and certified him to be a mechanic himself. He currently works part time in both mechanics and gem cutting. And takes most of his personal time in inventing. Lives in a city apartment two doors down from his parents. Works in his factories workshop after hours.

Re: Coreman Fairport
I'm not sure why you posted the character sheet a second time in the thread and as you said in a PM, the version you want to go with is the top one. I might suggest deleting the second one as it could be confusing for other people reading it and not knowing which version of the character you are going with. On top of that, I would like to see the history expanded on a bit more. Maybe you could include up to the part where he started working on his cart, any failures he had with it at first and various other projects he has made since then. Has he made a name for himself in the city of Marn?

Re: Coreman Fairport
I improved on the history. Taking in your notices on the steam engine and how he is known around Marn. I lost "steam" since it's just after work. So give me a poke for more if needed. Otherwise sleepy time... Again thanks for checking over all this.
Re: Coreman Fairport
Your history needs paragraphs. Otherwise it looks good.
The world is an arena, not a stage. RP is a stage, not an arena.
Re: Coreman Fairport
I tried getting it into paragraphs but this is the best it'll do. Doesn't seem to like formatting very well lol.
