Alrighty, Frug sez gems would probably go for around 100 bishani, with really good gems going up around 200. So maybe her two good ones are around 200, and the rest of them around 100? I figure hanser is going to give a lower (but way more reasonable) price, and then expect her to barter up.

No response from Syn.

So, we can wait longer for Syn, ask Breena or the doctor guy in the characters available for plot threads if they'd like to join, or just keep going and npc the magic user.

Or, go in a different direction with hijinks galore and put off the need fora magic user for the time being. I was thinking maybe that Hanser suspects Derin of something, and alerts someone (guards or some other powerful person), and subsequently the two are followed/watched or whatever. Trouble with Marn, essentially.

Iunno, what do you think?

If we have willing magic-users available, there's no need to NPC one.

The thing with Hanser could work, if you know a guard who might want to get involved (or we could NPC them if they're a sideline character). It'd make consorting with a magic-user much harder later. Really I'm up for anything you feel like doing... depends how long you want to play this thread.

I'm going to do another call for magic users. Syn still hasn't responded so I think he might be out. If no one responds in another week/few days then we'll go ahead with Hanser; I'll see if there are any guard/official type people who want to play.

edit: I'm having a lot of fun with this thread, so I have no problem rolling with it as long as it takes.

For now I'm going to assume we'll be npcing. So if it sounds good to you, here are some ideas I've come up with. Lemme know if you like any of them.

Hanser --> Informant to Marn

Glustel Tannhasur --> One of Hansers partners used to bait criminals/illicit users to revealing themselves so they may be turned in.

Possible scenarios:


Assuming Saruna asks Hanser for help --

Hanser suggests Derin and Saruna go see Glustel to help with their problem. They meet with him and get busted.

Hanser suggests Derin and Saruna go see Glustel. Midway there, another magic user who is aware/suspicious of Glustel's status diverts them. They either trust the guy or see Glustel anyways -- run into trouble and the stranger helps them out in return for something?

Hanser tells Derin and Saruna he can't help them, and sets Glustel on their tail. Glustel tricks them into thinking he's in need of their aid/something else, and 'coincidentally' is able to get enough evidence on them to turn them in. Possibly saved by another group of people?

Or we could leave Hanser as is and go in another direction entirely?

It might be difficult to NPC anything too complicated, though...

Which do you think would be the most interesting? So long as Derin gets through this alive and out of prison I'm happy (it'd be nice if she can survive more than one thread).

Hanser tells Derin and Saruna he can't help them, and sets Glustel on their tail. Glustel tricks them into thinking he's in need of their aid/something else, and 'coincidentally' is able to get enough evidence on them to turn them in. Derin kills him to avoid being caught by Marn.

It would be easy enough, since the only NPC interaction would be with Glustel, and Derin would get a chance to show off her ability. She could always kill him out of Saruna's sight in an attempt to deceive Saruna with her ability as Derin thinks Saruna is doing to her.

Plus that leaves room for complications further down the road in another thread as Hanser finds out Glustel was killed and an investigation goes on; suspicion would be directed primarily at Saruna and Derin without any real proof. A cat and cat game, almost. This would be further complicated by the fact that Saruna wants to dig up what happened to her father, which would further make her look suspicious (as a person potentially looking to get vengeance for something the Marn govt did).

Sounds good. Poor Derin isn't good at killing discretely, especially not without magic to help her attack or escape... it'll be nice and dramatic.

I just had a snap realization that Derin has never openly said that she's looking for a magic user. . .so you'll have to have Derin do the asking of Hanser. >>
