Name: Erryl Llynasura
Age: 17
Race: Human/elf
Height: 5’9” (175cm)
Weight: 136 lbs (62kg)
Physical Description:
Erryl has the pale skin, pale hair and pointed ears of his foreign father, but acquired his mother’s colourless, grey eyes. He looks younger than he is, but has an air of quiet intelligence about him. He is thin, of average height, and wears plain, unremarkable clothing, mostly in light colours. His lack of colour can make him stand out at times and his delicate limbs portray his lack of strength.
He always seems attentive, yet strangely distanced, as if only being an observer of events. He is always quiet, only answering direct questions, and is easily distracted; this combination will often lead others to see him as rude, and possibly arrogant, not at all helped by his elven appearance. Erryl is mostly either at the university or wandering the streets, but tends not to interact with others unless they first speak to him or he needs to gain information.
Possessions:
The only thing of note is a leather bracelet that once belonged to his mother; it holds purely sentimental value.
Powers/Strengths:
While he could always feel the forces of magic, he has never, despite his curiosity, had a great desire to experiment with his potential. This is mostly out of fear, but also partly out of disgust at what magic can - and will - do to a society and at how magic is generally used.
If he did choose to explore his power, he would find that he has the ability to move things slightly with his mind, an ability that, without much practice, is mostly useless, allowing him to move an object only a few inches at a time.
His other magical ability involves sensing things at a higher level than normal, for example, what a person is feeling. The extent of this power, what it applies to, is hard to know without first refining the ability. At present, it is subtle enough that it goes unnoticed by all, including Erryl, despite him being very observant.
He is quite good with numbers, for all the good it does him, and also has a natural artistic talent, though he rarely has a chance to express it.
Weaknesses:
His most dangerous flaw is his intense curiosity, often leading him into unpleasant situations. He often feels a compulsive need to satisfy this curiosity, which is only overcome by fear or distraction.
Fear is his other main weakness. Due to his fear of strangers, he is often seen as shy, which is not the case. He fears being completely alone, despite the fact that he usually feels distanced from people and has no close friends, and the only person he really trusts is his brother... and Sharanen, perhaps. He also fears deep water, or perhaps just the Ofriyu Mar - the swirling, crushing, murderous water would make him feel ill any time he dares to venture anywhere near its edge - and a lot of other things as well, of course.
He has no combat ability at all and has little in the way of strength, just one reason for his complete avoidance of conflict. He both loathes and fears violence, and feels overwhelmed in any negative situation, which is a problem, as his curiosity often leads him there.
History:
Erryl was born in Marn to his human mother, Carinna, and an elven father of unknown origin. Carinna was originally from Shim, but moved to Marn to be with her lover, Herrik, when they were both in their early twenties, at which time Carinna was also pregnant with Erryl’s human half-brother, Koranjherrin (or Koran).
The three lived a mostly routine life for around sixteen years, until the appearance of Erryl’s father. The elf, a stranger to the area, was travelling through the city for vague reasons, his origin and intended destinations known only to him. Erryl, having never met his father, only knows as much as his mother and half-brother had been willing to reveal to him. From what Erryl has learned, Carinna had been visiting her family in Shim for a few days (as she did twice every year). During this time, Erryl’s father arrived in Shim, deciding to stay at The Red Chalice Inn for the night, before entering the city of Marn.
The following day, Carinna was to travel back to the city with her youngest brother, Harlin, to meet Herrik at the western side of the bridge. When they failed to arrive, Herrik ventured over the bridge in search for them, eventually discovering that Harlin had been murdered and Carinna severely injured.
Herrik found Carinna, barely conscious, being attacked by the elven stranger. On realising he had been caught in the act, the elf fled, leaving Herrik to tend to Carinna.
After taking her back to Marn and doing all he could for her injuries, Herrik went in search of the elf, somehow managing to locate the man and confront him. A fight ensued, the elf eventually killing Herrik with the use of magic, for which he was himself then executed. Koran, at sixteen, was left to care for his injured, grieving mother, who soon realised she was also pregnant.
When Erryl was born, it was obvious that Herrik was not the father, and Carinna revealed that she had been raped as well as beaten by Erryl’s father, the elven foreigner. Erryl was quite different in appearance to Herrik, Carinna and Koran, who were all tan and dark-haired, his lack of colour clearly displaying his true parentage.
After four years, their mother could no longer cope with the grief she carried, and she committed suicide by jumping into the Ofriyu Mar, leaving only her meagre will behind.
For the next five years, Koran raised Erryl alone. At this point, Koran married a young woman named Sharanen, who then became a second carer - and a sort of “mother figure” - to nine-year-old Erryl. They live in a small home in the residential district of Marn.
The only physical attribute Erryl has in common with his half-brother, seventeen years older than him at the current age of 34, is their mother’s grey eyes. Koran is tall for a human, physically opposite to Erryl in strength and fitness, a labourer by trade.
He knows he can always trust Koran but he also knows the pain his brother feels at the memories Erryl’s presence invokes in him. Koran was very close to Carinna and has only coped by throwing himself entirely into his work whenever he can, providing for the little family he has left.
But despite the dreadful events that caused and were caused by his creation, Erryl has lived a mostly normal life, having been too young to experience much of the tragedy at all. Even so, the knowledge of what had happened caused problems, such as his fear of strangers and his aversion to magic.
For similar reasons, Koran loathes all magic, and also has a racist intolerance for most magical beings, specifically elves, the only exception being his little half-brother. He generally has little problems with dwarves and gnomes, or any other creature that leans more towards technical work than magic.
Erryl is relatively well educated, being observant and intelligent, more so in logical studies than anything else, but it is merely out of interest that he endeavors to learn. He attends Marn University to quench his thirst for knowledge, yet he has no real ambitions and tends to go wherever his curiosity leads him. While he has a great interest in things like history, art, literature and mathematics, he has no interest in anything political or magical in basis. He has always been able to feel the touch of magic, but never had the desire to use it.
[Note: I doubt I’ll be including Koran much or at all; he’s just an important part of Erryl’s history and current situation.]
