Re: Unraveled
She made good time getting behind the locked door of her room, in spite of her condition. As soon as she turned to key in the lock she slid down the length of the door until she was settled on the floor. "Please..." she cried quietly, "Please make it stop."
Jordyn began to rock, hugging her knees close to her body. The almost forgotten pain had returned with a vengeance as her body filled with the most potent negative forces she had ever felt in her life. Rage, fear, hate, lust, all of it poured into her, like flames licking at her from the inside.
She held her breath, trying not to scream out in pain, wrestling to regain control mind. But it was just too strong, she couldn't hold it back. With a stifled scream she clamped her hands over her ears as everything went black.
Then the pain stopped, because she was no longer fighting the visions....
She saw a girl, sitting quietly before a mirror in her room, brushing her auburn hair. She wasn't much younger that Jordyn, but she obviously had a more pampered life. There was a noise at the window, a stratching, Jordyn turned with the girl to peer out the glass. Eyes, cold and hard, stared back at her, but the girl didn't seem to notice them. She shrugged and returned to her nightly ritual.
"There's someone out there, can't you see?" Jordyn cried. Feeling the person watching meant to harm the girl, feeling it just as if that person meant to harm her.
The girl didn't hear her, of course she wouldn't...
Jordyn's eyes flew open again, and she gasped for air. It had been so real she was surprised to find she was still sitting on the floor in her own room. Her head hurt, and her mouth was dry, but she could feel the episode was over. Thankfully. Exhaustion crashed over her so quickly she felt like curling up right there on the hard floor and going to sleep.
Reluctantly Jordyn pushed herself up onto wobbly legs. It was then that a knock sounded at the door. "Are you all right in there miss?" Came a small female voice.
"Fine," Jordyn croaked, the word barely above a whisper. She cleared her throat and braced her arm on the bed post to keep from falling over. "I'm fine, thank you." She called out, her voice still raspy, but louder now.

Early the next morning, Jarrah made his way down the road from his place to the inn, just as he said he would. There hadn't been any late-night visits from any of the busboys, so that had to be a good sign. Even so, the twinge of uneasiness wouldn't go away, he knew, until he was certain that Jordyn was all right after the episode the previous night. He had spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out what all that craziness might have been about, but he gave it up rather quickly.
He would worry about it later if it ever happened again. For now, he had his mind on other things.
At this time in the morning, the Red Chalice wasn't overly crowded but nowhere near empty, either. Travelers were grabbing a quick bite before heading off for the day to go about their business or continue their journeys. Jarrah paused inside the door and took a quick glance around to see if Jordyn was anywhere in sight. When he didn't find her, he headed across the room to have a quick word with the manager.
He was informed that, to the manager's knowledge, nothing extremely unusual had happened and neither could he recall seeing Jordyn leave the inn yet. So Jarrah decided to hang around the place for a bit to see if he could catch her on her way out.
He found an empty table relatively close to the stairs leading up to the rooms and dropped his bag on the floor by his feet. Setting his chin in his hand, he tried to kill some time by glancing around the place and watching some of the people. However, he still kept his attention half focused on the staircase as he did so.

Re: Unraveled
At some point during the morning her room got to warm to be comfortable, with a groan Jordyn rolled onto her stomach and slowly opened her eyes, it turned out to be a mistake, the light stung and brought about a wave a nausea. Instead Jordyn focused on her breathing. She couldn't remember undressing and climbing in bed, but she must have.
The vision last night was still fresh in her mind, luckily the pain was completely gone, however she was still left feeling drained. After a few minutes Jordyn slowly opened her eyes again, this time there was only a small amount of discomfort. She blinked rapidly to clear the clouds from her sight, and finally when the room came into focus she struggled to sit up and throw her legs over the side of the bed. Sometime during the night someone had delivered a fresh basin for washing. It say prettily on the nightstand with a small cloth folded next to it.
Once she had cleansed her face, neck and arm, Jordyn willed herself out of the bed and began to dress. It was a slow process, mostly because despite hours of sleep Jordyn had very little energy. "Lovely way to start your first day at work, Jorrie." she muttered to herself as she slipped her feet into her boots and shrugged her pack onto her shoulder.
A few yawns and muttered oaths later Jordyn was walking down the stairs, "Sleep well miss? Have any breakfast will ya?" Chirped and exceedingly annoying female, with an equally annoying smile.
Jordyn held her hand up against the squawking noise and grimaced. "No thank you." she breathed. All she wanted was to get some where with fresh air and quiet.

Re: Unraveled
After some time, Jarrah was beginning to wonder if maybe he shouldn't make a run over to Nyssa's place. Just because the manager and others hadn't seen Jordyn leave the inn didn't mean she hadn't. Even though he'd made it a point to get here early enough to reduce the chances of missing her, he supposed she could have already headed out...
He reached down to grab his bag and took one last quick look around the place before standing up. Hearing the voice of a particularly annoying woman who worked here, he twitched and glanced off in the direction of the stairs. Turned out the lady had caught poor Jordyn before she could escape. At first glance Jordyn didn't seem to be too bad off, although it was rather clear, to him at least, that she was a bit worn out.
He almost called out to get her attention but then thought better of it, remembering how easily embarrassed she got whenever others' focus was on her. So instead he stayed silent and leaned back against the table, tossing his bag over his shoulder as he waited patiently for her to finish her business.
As he waited he caught himself wondering again what was the cause of her condition the previous night. To be honest, he had his doubts about this "feeling" thing she mentioned - the term was too vague for his liking. But if that in fact really was it, then he supposed he could understand her actions.
Eh...whatever.
Shoving those thoughts aside, he made sure to have his usual smile in place by the time Jordyn was finished dealing with that annoying lady. He really had no business speculating about something she clearly didn't want anyone to know about, so he wouldn't ponder the matter any longer.

Re: Unraveled
Sidestepping the hawkish woman after a polite word of departure Jordyn started for the door, something pricked the back of her neck as she strolled sleepily toward the exit, telling her to look to the left. When she did she saw Jarrah, his usual smile in place, and his eye curious as they watched her. Inside she groaned, she could only imagine how she looked, pale, tired, and a head full of unruly red curls. Instead of following her first instinct to pretend she hadn't seen him and continue on she stopped and smiled back at him.
Jordyn changed her course and moved to stand before Jarrah's table. "Jarrah, a pleasure to see you again." She said in a slightly hoarse tone. " Do you take your breakfast here?" She asked, having completely forgoten his promise to check up on her last night.
He was the same as he had been the day before, calm, unruffled, and held a certain charm she couldn't quite put her finger on. His eyes were kind, if not a bit curious as he looked her over. She told herself he was looking for signs of illness or injury, but her blood quickened anyway.
"I was just on my way out to Nyssa's." She explained, feeling the need to talk, it was much more comfortable than standing there silently waiting.

Re: Unraveled
“Then I won’t hold you up for very long,” he said, his smile brightening. Now that he had a closer look, her wariness seemed much more pronounced and he could see she was rather pale compared to the last time he saw her. Whatever happened last night, feeling or otherwise, had really taken a lot out of her. But at least she was up and moving around. That was always a plus.
He straightened so that he was no longer leaning against the table and readjusted his bag to get it out of his way, deciding not to answer her question directly. Either she hadn’t heard him last night when he said he would be coming to check on her, or she had simply forgotten. Whichever it may have been, he wasn’t going to draw attention to it.
Instead he said, “You seemed rather ill last night. How are you feeling this morning? Any better?”

Re: Unraveled
She couldn't fight the blush the rose to her cheeks, staining a deeper shade against her now pale complexion. Jordyn looked at the toes of her boots. They needed a good shine, she thought. She almost laughed at the rather off the wall direction her thoughts took. But she didn't forget the question Jarrah had put to her. Was she ill? No, not exactly, but something told her Jarrah wouldn't believe that, he didn't seem to keen to the "feeling" bit she gave him last night either. Should she lie? She wasn't really a dishonest person. Jordyn was torn.
Seeing no other choice, Jordyn looked up at Jarrah, meeting his questioning gaze, her green eyes pleading. " I was not, exactly ill." She began in a low voice. "I did not feel well, but it was not because of an illness, so please don't worry over it, it was nothing that you could have helped." Jordyn looked away, frustrated with herself for not having the right words to ease any worry and remove any doubt. "It's...complicated." She murmured.
Then, she gave him a smile, it wasn't a warm, bright, smile full of energy, but just a simple "this is the best I can do right now" smile. "But, yes I am feeling much better, just a bit tired is all." She said finally.

Re: Unraveled
Her answer only served to confuse him a bit more on whatever may have happened the previous night. After all, he was still trying to wrap his mind around this feeling thing she'd mentioned and make some sense of it. Jordyn didn't strike him as one to tell outlandish stories of that sort, so he was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt.
But either way, Jarrah knew this wasn't something she wanted to discuss, and he wasn't about to probe with such personal questions. She said she was feeling better and she didn't appear any worse for wear for the time being. For now he would drop it.
Pushing his confusion aside, he offered a gentle smile. "All right, then. If you're sure. But if something like that ever happens again and there's anything that can be done to help, don't be afraid to ask."
As a bit of an afterthought he added, "Oh, and take it easy today, huh? If Nyssa senses that something is up, she's sure to start asking questions." And they would be questions he was sure Jordyn wouldn't want to answer.

Re: Unraveled
Jordyn nodded somewhat wearily. She had no intention of letting Nyssa know that she had this, affliction. The truth of the matter was that it could indeed negatively impact the quality of work that Jordyn was able to provide. She could only hope that while in the presence of her employer she would be able the hold up her barriers.
" Thank you for checking up on me." She said to Jarrah. Her smile brightening slightly, because she could clearly feel the concern coming from him. "I promise you I am in no danger of expiring any time soon." She added somewhat teasingly, but the attempt was only half-hearted and yeilded little in the way of results.
Looking around Jordyn noticed that the inn was beginning to fill, and she knew it would be best to avoid crowds for a day or so, until she had her strength back. "Well I should really be getting to Nyssa's house." She said then. "Thank you again Jarrah." She added.
She waited for him to say his goodbyes, before strolling out of the inn with a secret sense of urgency. Outside the air felt light and clean, the morning was still cool, and fresh. Jordyn inhaled deeply, and gave a small sigh of relaxation before starting off in the direction of Nyssa's. She allowed herself this time to wonder what work the old woman would have for her when she arrived.

Re: Unraveled
Giving a quick wave to Jordyn as she left, Jarrah glanced around at the steady stream of people who were filling the inn as he tried to decide what to do. As of now he didn't have much taking up his time today, other than checking in with a couple of people he'd seen the previous afternoon. But he didn't figure he should head over and bother Nyssa, since she and Jordyn had things to discuss.
Come to think of it, this was the first free day he'd had this week. And he wasn't really quite sure what to do with it.
Maybe he could head over to the market and window shop for a while, see what kind of people would be coming through town today...
Nyssa was usually up with the sun, but she had ended up sleeping in this morning after having stayed awake part of the night considering a few things regarding young Jordyn's employment under her. So she was a little behind in her morning routine at the moment, browsing through the kitchen in search of some breakfast.

Re: Unraveled
The walk to Nyssa's was nice, and it worked a lot of the tension from the previous night out of Jordyn's body. She smiled, feeling much better, as she raised her fist to give a quick, sure knock on the woman's door.
Her first day of work, she wondered again what she would be doing. She had never really had any kind of job before, but she was accustomed to caring for someone else, especially and older person. She had no delusions about Nyssa though, she sensed the woman's fierce independence the moment she set eyes on her, wielding a pot and screeching across the kitchen at a very surprised Jarrah.
Jordyn chuckled and shook her head, that was likely something she would not soon forget. She was certain she would like Nyssa, it was just a matter of getting comfortable with her around. And Jarrah...she wondered how he fit into that. He was fast becoming a friend, and Jordyn could definitely see herself becoming a close friend with him. Caring and considerate as he was.
She looked over her shoulder, thinking perhaps he had followed, he did not however. She was being silly. She returned her attention to Nyssa's still closed door and knocked a second time. "Ma'am, It's Jordyn." She called.

Re: Unraveled
Upon hearing the first knock, Nyssa tossed what few things she had dug out of the cupboards back where they were and headed for the main room as quickly as her bad knees would allow her. She was just reaching for the door when she heard the second knock and the younger woman's call, and she couldn't help laughing quietly when she was called "ma'am" again.
Making a mental note to let the girl know that she didn't have to be so formal, she pulled the door open and offered a bright smile. She actualy hadn't expected to see Jordyn again so soon - she thought maybe she would wait until the afternoon to stop by - but it was a pleasent surprise. "Good morning, Jordyn! Come on in."
As she stepped back to let her inside, Nyssa added, "You've got good timing. I was just looking for something to fix for breakfast. Have you eaten yet?"

Re: Unraveled
Jordyn felt another wave of nausea at the mention of breakfast, she opened her mouth to reply but stopped, not wanting to lie to Nyssa, and not really sure she could pull of a convincing lie any way. She closed her mouth and smiled.
"No, thank you Nyssa, I don't have much of an appetite this morning. Nerves I think." She mumbled as she stepped into the house and out of the bright sun. "I would be more than happy to whip something up for you however." She added, as she moved to stand out of the door way. She looked about then pointed at the floor near the front door. "May I leave my pack there for the day?" She asked.
It was all a tactic to change the subject, get Nyssa's thoughts in a pattern that kept her from curiously wondering, and asking, about Jordyn's lack of hunger. Jordyn really did not want to go through the same thing with Nyssa that she just had with Jarrah.
Even now, remembering the doubt, and disbelief in his eyes, hurt. No, she wanted to avoid that at all costs, and sense she couldn't find it in herself to lie, she would simply keep all conversation away from anything that could lead to such a discussion.

Re: Unraveled
Nyssa didn't find the girl's answer odd in the least and bought her excuse completely, assuming Jordyn's slight paleness a likely result of her nerves as well. So she said nothing more on the matter as she nudged the door closed.
She nodded in answer to Jordyn's question about where to put her pack. And while she appreciated the offer, Nyssa decided to hold off on breakfast this morning. Now that she thought about it she wasn't really hungry herself - she was just following her routine. Besides that, she understood how nerves could make a person sick to their stomach, sometimes even at just the sight of food.
So with a smile she said, "Thanks, hon, but that's all right. It can wait. Go ahead and make yourself at home, take a few minutes to relax."

Make your self at home...and relax.
Jordyn turned and set down her pack, "yeah" she muttered under her breath. Relaxing was the furthest thing from her mind at that moment. She really wanted to dive into some work and keep her mind and body occupied until much later that day.
She forced her smile back into place before turning to face Nyssa once more. "Thank you Ma'am." She replied in her usual easy tone. " I am excited to get started, have you given any thought to where I am most needed?" She asked. Rest could come later, perhaps around noon-time she would take a break, maybe not, it depended on how she felt when the time came. " No job is too tough, so if something needs done, just let me know and I will give it my best." She said in a light voice, her smile growing to sparkly in her green eyes.
