Had it not been for her bad knee, Nyssa might have stood up as well. Instead she straightened and leaned back in her chair. She had half a mind to tease the girl a little bit in regards to her choice of words - "report back," she almost sounded like her son when he was still with the Marn City Guard.

But she didn't want to overdo it, so she resisted the temptation and instead glanced up at Jordyn with a small smile. "If you can, why don't you swing by here tomorrow when you have the time, and we can work out the rest of the details then?"

She almost informed Jordyn that she didn't need to feel obligated to keep calling her 'ma'am'. But she figured that could wait until next time.

Jarrah, meanwhile, was still in the other room, lounging about in the chair. By now he'd grabbed one of Nyssa's books and was thumbing through the pages - not really reading it, just as a way to have something to do until the women were finished.

Jordyn smiled and offered her hand in a friendly shake to Nyssa. "I will see you tomorrow then. Thank you again for this opportunity, I only hope that I am able to prove as useful to you as you have been helpful to me Ma'am.

Once they had said their goodbye and shook hands a final time Jordyn insisted that she let herself out, firmly believing Nyssa's knees could use some rest, she was an alarmingly active woman for her age. Jordyn strolled out into the main room and smiled at Jarrah who was lounging comfortably while pretending to read a book.

"Thank you Jarrah for bringing me here, Nyssa is a wonderfully kind person to offer me work, good instincts." she praised lightly. "Well, I should return to the inn for the evening." she added, she had only been there a day but she had heard rumors about the lord of Shim and did not want to risk bumping into him, or his ilk, in the street after sundown.

"Thank you again." she said.

Jarrah glanced up as he heard someone coming into the room and flashed his usual smile when he saw that it was Jordyn. From the looks of it, things had gone relatively well between her and Nyssa. No surprise there. A certain part of him, he supposed, had almost been sure from the start that the older woman wouldn't turn Jordyn away - at least not entirely - despite her fierce independence.

"No problem," he said, setting the book aside and rising to his feet. "I'm glad to see everything worked in your favor. Will you be all right heading back to the inn on your own?" he added as an afterthought.

Jordyn shifted on her feet, and shrugged her pack higher onto her shoulder. He was being polite, she really did appreciate that. " Oh, there's really no need for you to bother, of course, unless you are headed in that direction anyway. I am sure that I can find my way." She hoped.

Her smile was slow but it was a real smile when she looked at him, one of very few, she had so much to thank him for and no idea where to begin, he had, in some ways, saved her life, this man. " Jarrah..." she began a bit awkwardly. "...um, if you should ever need anything you'll let me know won't you?" She wished she could take back the words as soon as she spoke them, it came out the wrong way.

"What I mean is, I owe you so much, this may see little enough a favor to you, but it really did mean..." she didn't want to tell him it was the difference between life and possible death, "...well it meant a lot. You will never know how much so. I would like to repay that favor one day, if it is possible."

Jordyn stopped her stammering, it was uncomfortable, and she had no desire to make a fool of herself. Once again she wished Namad had thought to help her develop social skills, this would have been much easier had he brought her into the village now and then. Yet, she knew that he kept her away to protect her, he was afraid that she would not be able to block out all of the different senses, emotions, and thoughts, that would and did attack her mind, in a way he was right to keep her separated from it, for even now she felt the dull prick of exhaustion from holding up her mental barriers so long. Suddenly feeling very childish and more than a little embarrassed Jordyn shrugged her shoulders.

"Forgive me, I am being foolish, I am tired I think, have a pleasant evening." She said and gave a curt bow before tripping away for the door.

Listening to Jordyn trying to get her words out, Jarrah couldn't hold back a little bit of a smile. In a certain sense, this kid was almost beginning to remind him of a certain someone - someone who, a number of years ago, found himself in just as uncertain a situation as she was in now.

And it was clear a social awkwardness was the reason for her stuttering, so he didn't tease to loosen her up as he might have done otherwise. He knew enough to recognize when such a method was inappropriate, so he held his tongue until she started for the door.

Truthfully, he didn't doubt that she could find her way back to the inn just fine, since it was just down the road. He couldn't think of anyone with a sense of direction so terrible that they'd get lost in that two-block stretch. Still, Jordyn was new in town and, small though it was, Shim did have its share of pranksters and trouble-makers pop up from time to time...

"Hey, hold up," he called, reaching down to grab his own bag which had been sitting along the wall. "I'll come with you. I pass the inn on my way home." He said nothing about her awkward moment of stuttering, figuring it was better to just drop the matter rather than drag it out needlessly. Besides, he could understand her reasons.

A look of relief passed over Jordyn's face, easying the crease of worry and frustration on her forehead. "Oh," she breathed then nodded slightly. "Very well." after a moment of silence she realized that Jarrah surely was accompanying her for her comfort alone, she felt a tiny twinge of gratefulness at his thought. "Thank you," she murmured, lowering her eyes to the floor.

It had been a day to rival most days, and at that moment Jordyn was looking forward to the haphazard bed that awaited her at the inn. Her stomach was twisted in knots from hours of nervousness. It didn't occur to her to just relax and be herself, she was so eager to fit in it plagued her to a fault.

Feeling a bit silly for just standing there stareing between the floor and Jarrah, Jordyn pushed the door open. "Shall we?" She asked, adding a smile for effect. Remain in good spirits, or atleast appear that way. She told herself. Once she stepped outside she turned waiting for Jarrah. She wondered if he lived nearby, did he have his own home? Then she immediately wondered why it even crossed her mind.

Jordyn looked up at the darkening sky, shots of pink, purple, and orange shot through the horizon. The setting sun blazed over the hills in the distance, casting a fiery path of light that washed over Shim. The red-orange sunlight lit-up upon Jordyn's unruly red tresses, she liked the sparkling effect it caused and smiled as she picked up a curl and rubbed it between her fingers. The evening air was cool but not to a chill, just comfortable, it would have been a perfect evening to draw the setting sun.

Following Jordyn out of the house, and pausing in the doorway long enough to holler to Nyssa that he was leaving, Jarrah wandered out to the street. He happened to notice the way that Jordyn was looking up at the colors in the sky and could take a guess at what might have been going through her mind. She'd said art was her hobby, after all - it would make sense that things like that would catch her attention.

Speaking of which...

"You know, I think I forgot to mention before that Nyssa's a bit of an art enthusiast herself," he said casually as he started off towards the inn. Since Jordyn was going to be working for the older woman for the time being, he figured it wouldn't hurt to drop a subtle hint of a common interest the two shared - some common ground for them to work with.

With a bit of a chuckle he added, "She's not very good at it, but bless her heart, she tries."

Jordyn snapped her attention away from the sunset and back to Jarrah, realizing he was strolling off without her. She hurried behind him and slowed her pace when they were side by side once more. "Art is all about perception Jarrah." She mentioned in a soft tone that indicated she was deep in thought," sometimes people like your work, sometimes they do not." She added with a shrug. Personally, she had only had one critic for her work, and naturally he sung her praises, whether because she was gifted or because he was Namad, didn't really matter to her.

She had forgotten if Jarrah mentioned any hobbies of his own, not wanting to ask and be reminded she simply skirted around the issue. "You are not interested in art then?"

While she awaited his answer Jordyn returned her attention to the deepening hues above them, violet and indigo now dominated the sky, however, the once white puffy clouds over head were rimmed with a vibrant pink color, one Jordyn had never truly been able to get right in her paintings.

She missed having paints and canvas, it had been so long since she had run out of her supplies that she could scarcely remember the sent of the oily pastes or the weight of a well shaped brush. Now she relied on two scraps of coal pencil and a ratty sketch booklet, with only two remaining pages to get her by. She was saving those two pages for two magnificent pieces. No sunset would be sketched on them.

Jordyn was now looking forward to replenishing her supplies and getting back into practice, perhaps she could get extra work around the village painting. It was a possibility.

Lowering her eyes she allowed herself a moment to imagine what her life would be like if all turned out the way she hoped, it was so fantastic she felt her breath hitch in her chest. Was she that lucky?

Her thoughts turned to Jarrah then, and his generosity. She examined him from beneath the thick veil of her lashes. He has a nice face. She thought. Good strong lines. She thought his portrait would be something she might enjoy working on. It would fit nicely with the faces already in her book, strangers that caught her attention for some reason or another.

Jarrah gave a little bit of a shrug of his own at her question, smile still in place. "I'll admit my interest isn't a strong one. Not that I have anything against it, mind you." He had learned early on that medicine could be very consuming work, and on the busier days it didn't allow for much free time.

Glancing over at Jordyn, he laughed a little. "Growing up around Nyssa, it's hard not to have at least a little background in it. But I rarely get enough spare time now for it to be a hobby worth pursuing."

He could still clearly recall a time or two, back when he was a small boy and Nyssa had only recently taken him in, when the older woman was trying to help him find something constructive to do with his time. Something to help him vent his frustrations regarding his situation at the time. Every art-related attempt had ended in a terribly messy disaster - a disaster that her son Cyrus usually had to clean up. After Cyrus finally had had enough with having to strip unwanted paint from the walls and floors, Nyssa gave it up as a hopeless venture and steered Jarrah's attention elsewhere.

The medic couldn't help but snicker silently at the memory.

As the setting sun slipped silently behind the darkened horizon, giving one last kiss of orange-red light to the roof tops, Jordyn stopped before the inn. A chill was settling over the small village, and a tingle of something menacing teased the hair on her arms. She rubbed her hands over them absently and smiled at Jarrah.

"Well, this is where I stop, I suppose." She said, her eyes looking about, trying to pinpoint where the uneasy emotion she felt was being conveyed from, but there was no one in sight, save for a stray or two sniffing the ground for forgotten treats.

"Thank you for walking with me, and for everything else." Jordyn added, returning her blue-green gaze to Jarrah's shadow cloaked face. "I am sure we will see much of eachother in the future."

Jordyn looked over her shoulder when the inn door opened and two rather tipsy men stumbled out barely missing her in their attempt to navigate the low steps that lead to the street. She gave them an annoyed looked as they weaved their way into the growing darkness, their laughter floating on the thick air behind them and ringing in her ears.

"I should, go in." She said, her eyes still fixed on the empty street where the men had been. Something felt....wrong.

After arriving at the inn, Jarrah noticed the way Jordyn was glancing around apprehensively but didn't read too much into it at first. She was new to Shim - a girl her age alone in a strange place had reason enough to feel uncomfortable to a degree. And the onset of night could could make an unfamiliar environment even more unsettling. Once she was inside, he figured her unease would level out.

He pushed those thoughts aside when she spoke up again, and he offered his usual smile and a slight nod. He started to say something in response until the two drunks staggered out of the building, narrowly avoiding a head-on collision with poor Jordyn, and watched rather impassively as they headed down the street. An annoyance though such things were, the situation was nothing unusual to him and he brushed it off.

He turned his attention back to Jordyn with the intention of bidding her goodbye and heading home. But then he started started to wonder if something else had her on edge. He himself didn't notice anything out of place. But as a medic one of the first things he had to learn was how to read people through their facial expressions and body language. Sometimes patients had a tendency to lie about or downplay their discomfort or ailment, and he had to be able to recognize when they did.

And right now, something was clearly bothering Jordyn. Something other than the unfamiliar setting.

He didn't allow his smile to falter, but there was still a clear hint of concern when he finally did speak up. "Is something the matter, Miss Jordyn?"

Slowly Jordyn returned her gaze to Jarrah, her face seemed pale, to be honest her head was hurting so intesely she felt rather ill at that moment. What could be so strong that it could affect her this way from what seemed to be a great distance?

"I..." she began then looked again to the empty street. Something was definitely not right at that moment, some thing was happening or about to happen, but what? "I'm not sure." she drawed out, squinting to see if she could make out any shapes in the darkness beyond.

When she was certain that there was definitely no one near by Jordyn looked once more at Jarrah and saw the confusion lit upon his face. "I'm sorry," she murmured with a frown, she could not imagine how odd she must have seemed to him at that moment. " I sometimes get these..." she trailed off, not exactly sure how to continue. "...It's hard to explain, I feel things sometimes." She finished with a deeper frown. To her disappointment the feeling was not passing, nor was it growing any less intense. She knew that she would soon not be able to hold the flashes of sight off and reality would grow dim.

Jordyn heaved a big sigh, she needed to get to the privacy of her room, just in case the worst happened, she had no intention of letting Jarrah or anyone else for that matter see how she was affected when she couldn't control the downpour of visions and emotions. "I am most likely overly tired. I should go in." She said weakly. "Do be careful on your way home Jarrah." She added with a slight edge of worry in her voice before she turned, near stumbling, to the door.

She "feels" things, huh? That's...different.

If it hadn't been so obvious that this feeling of whatever was effecting her very negatively, Jarrah might have tried to ignore it and gone his own way after Jordyn had made it inside. Taking a quick look around he still couldn't see, let alone sense, anything suspicious. But he'd seen enough over the years to be able to tell if someone was really ill or putting on an act. And Jordyn very clearly was not faking.

Whatever this...feeling thing was, it had to be pretty serious.

He spent little more than a few seconds debating what to do before turning and taking a few steps to follow Jordyn. It didn't make sense to just head home until he knew for sure she would get to her room - if she was going to pass out before then, the manager would just send over one of his busboys to get him, anyway.

Once he was standing beside her again, he leaned forward a bit so that he was more at her level to try to get a look at her face, and to see if he could spot any signs that she was simply coming down with a fever. She did get caught in the rain today, after all. Perhaps she was just getting sick.

His smile had pretty much faded after seeing her stumble, and as a medic he was becoming a little more concerned. "Are you sure you'll be all right? Perhaps I should help you get upstairs at least, so you don't trip and hurt yourself."

He was there again, Jordyn stopped before the stairs, the edges of her vision were growing blurry, another sign she didn't welcome with any degree of warmth. She bit her lower lip and gave Jarrah a panicked look.

"I..." she began but before she could get out another word a searing pain flashed through her head, she slammed her eyes shut against the nausea that followed and swallowed hard. After a few steadying breaths she opened them again, only to find her vision was now tunneling.

Jordyn wanted nothing more than to get to her room, alone, where no one, especially Jarrah, would see what was coming. It took every ounce of strength she had not to scream at him to leave.

"I'll be fine, I just need to rest, it's been a long day." she nearly choked on the lie but she didn't need any more humiliation than she was already feeling now.

Her eyes were filling with moisture, partly because of fear and pain, and partly because she knew how insane she must seem to Jarrah, and that if he were there to witness what was coming he would surely tell Nyssa the entire sordid bit and she would refuse to hire Jordyn.

Jordyn forced a weak smile at Jarrah, blinking back the tears and haze. "There's truly no need to worry. Goodnight." She murmured is as bright a voice as she could manage.

Without another word she turned and tripped up the stairs, not looking back, and not caring that she narrowly missed falling straight back down them more than once. All her energy was concentrated on getting into her room and locking the door.

Jarrah grumbled a bit to himself as Jordyn tried yet again to convince him that nothing was wrong. He was a medic, for crying out loud - who did she think she was kidding? Surely she had to realize her false reassurances did little good.

But...he'd humor her, this one time, and back off for now. For some reason or another she didn't want him around right at that second and had almost looked scared at the idea of him staying to give her a hand. But he would head inside himself in a short while, after she'd had a chance to get upstairs, and ask the manager to keep a close eye on things and let him know if anything serious happened.

Nyssa would want to throw every pot in her kitchen at him right now if she knew he wasn't being more assertive in the matter. But if Jordyn wasn't willing to let him help, there wasn't much he could do. It wasn't like he could force her to cooperate.

As she tripped up the stairs - though it strongly went against his better judgment - he forced himself to stay put as he let out a heavy sigh and called out, "Fine, but I'm stopping by first thing in the morning to check up on you, ya hear?" His words were firm, a subtle hint that he wasn't too happy about this, and that he wasn't going to take no for an answer a second time.

He hoped he wouldn't regret this in the long run.
