Jenica shot from the chair like a spring and started for the back door at a determined stride. She was confidant that the male would follow., and it seemed they'd now acquired a fae. Although Jenica didn't particularly like the girl, she would tolerate her presence and be civil. As civil as she could be, anyway. Because although the girl had lied, her scent reminded the vampire just enough of the nymph for her to tolerate the half-elf.
Plus, the male didn't seem to want her gone just yet. Or at least he'd made no clear motion to dismiss the woman.
Jen slammed open the back door and held it, then glared back at her two companions. She considered stealing some horses to make their travels faster. The two might slow her down if they didn't have four extra legs to bear the brunt of the moving.
"Hurry."
There was a hiss under the word, but she kept her voice low.

Myx thought Jenica was overreacting, but he didn't fully understand the relationship between a vampire and its childe. To him it was just as likely that Belatucadres had dropped in for a neutral visit, but Jenica's reactions had set him somewhat on alarm. He wanted to know if she was agitated of some grave danger unknown to him, or if she was reacting to situations as any vampire would.
Myx looked at Avery. Ah, he thought her breath didn't smell enough like alcohol. But the situation had changed, hadn't it? Or she was a great actor, but he thought the woman genuinely disturbed by the situation.
"Come along, Avery Silver," he said as he walked towards the door at a brisk pace.

Avery Silver
Avery didn't much prodding. She was up and heading to the back door almost as fast as the vampire. She, herself didn't really know why the vampire had effected her so. Unless she had developed some kind of phobia in the matter of ten seconds.
Safety first. Analyze myself later. She thought.
When their little group reached the cool night air, Avery gave a sharp, but surprisingly quiet whistle. Neflos came at her call. Avery gestured the bird to keep in the air.
Seeing the dark blot of his form in the sky calmed her a great deal. Through all kinds of trouble Neflos had been there with a glare and an irritated squawk.

Bela let them leave without even trying to stop Jenica. His childe was still very young and he would not be around to keep her on a tight leash forever. It was not enough for her to fear him, he had to teach her the helplessness of running. After that he would teach her, like all the others, the benefits of servitude. She would love him and fear him as did all the people of Marn and Shim, and she would see the great rewards and pleasures he could shower upon a childe of his own blood, but first he had to punish her for leaving.
Once they were out of sight he let the front door fall shut and began to walk around the side of the tavern. His senses didn't lie about her position.

Once outside Jenica felt more in her element. Out here, there were infinite escapes available. Within the confines of the bar, there were seldom more than a few.
Ironically, Myx's thoughts were wasted with the young vampire. She was a walking rictus of death, just like any of her kind, but she was also the exception to so many of the rules. She'd abandoned her sire within hours of being sired by him, only to take up the company of a sexually driven nymph, whose influence remained strong on Jenica's hunting techniques. Their travels had often involved moving through daylight in the woods, and so the vampire could stomach light to a much higher degree than many of her kind - although direct sunlight would still kill her, she'd learned to avoid the rays beaming down through the canopy with skills nearly all vampires never ever tried to acquire.
And she'd embraced the violent intensity within rather than fight it.
she trusted its instincts better than her own, and followed its desires nearly to a fault. Only in this one thing did she and her nature conflict - as her sire, Bela's draw was immensely powerful within the vampire's body, and the hunger wanted to be closer to that reservoir of power. But the woman wanted not a damn thing to do with him, ever if she could help it.
He was moving.
She snapped to attention as the door shut behind Myx, then flared her nostrils as she sniffed the air. The tang of urine and booze was too strong in this alleyway, but her inner senses were screaming. And she just couldn't pinpoint...
The vampire snorted and looked at her companions, only seconds away from flat-out bolting and leaving them to their fates. She clenched her fists as her decision to leave them clarified her path. The male most certainly would die, but perhaps the female could hold her own. Jen had spent more time around strong females than males, and the idea that a male besides her sire could be powerful was beyond her. So they would die, and she would let them.
But her feet didn't move. She stared at Myx, unwilling to beg but refusing to stay.
"We must run."

Myx looked at Jenica and it took him only a split second as he replied on instinct, "then let us run."
His platinum furry friend was already far in the night, several blocks ahead. It seemed somehow he was going to run away from the ultimate bogeyman of Thar Shaddin, Myx mused.
"Sunrise is coming. We have maybe an hour at most," he said, but he felt some idea tugging at his chest that prompted him to say, "the townspeople of Shim say that Belatucadres is over two hundred years old."
But shouldn't he be afraid? No, his heart was beating fast, and he was nearly trembling in agitation, but this was not fear as he had known it in the past. With a strange look on his face, he turned toward both Jenica and Avery.
"Go north, until you reach city boundaries, and then head west--it should take you to the Industrial District. There are a few abandoned factories you could use for shelter," he said, then added casually, "I live on the top floor of the Brown Brew Inn, a few blocks south of the Justice Hall. We will meet again."
He looked them both firmly in the eyes but his face was a casual mask, a subtle hint of a smile playing about his lips. The strange idea was now a irresistable reality. Myx was about to turn away from the two women, but suddenly as if with an afterthought turned towards Jenica.
"Vampires, what do you fear besides the sunlight?"

The vampire got closer while they wasted time talking. He could feel her just standing there, right behind the tavern. Was she waiting for him? Why would she run so swiftly and then stop? Either they were figuring out a plan or they were waiting for him on purpose.
He hesitated, stopped walking altogether. Even he, old and powerful though he was, had no intention of walking into a trap. He had not lived so many years by being careless and rushing into things. On the contrary, it was precisely his extreme patience and deliberation that had gotten him where he was today. Better a missed opportunity than death.
The vampire waited out of sight, standing alone in an alley just around the corner from the three. A gust of wind blew his long black hair and coat over his face and body, carrying them weightlessly.

Jenica's first thought in reply to his question was, "Isn't it obvious?" But she didn't reply - instead she simply looked at him, emotionless as ever, before she turned and dashed away, moving away from the screaming in her gut.
The male was right, and now that Jenica felt liberated from her stationary spot, she could focus on another sensation within - the knowledge of sunset and sunrise. Soon, very very soon the sun would come up and leave her scant few chances to move so freely. She'd do fine crouched into some corner of an alley, but it didn't bring her joy. Still, one mustn't complain when one is desperate to start with.
She burst from the alley behind the tavern, moving with all the natural speed of a vampire. She already had several locations staked in the historic section of town, but the industrial district was a tad closer - she might have to break down and take the male's advice.
