Alexander Hallow

Post by Alexanderthegreat » Mon May 04, 2009 3:59 am

Age: Alexander is 22.

Race: Human

Physical Description: Alexander is about 6 feet tall, with reddish brown hair that is cut in a short style meant for him to be easily maintained. A beard, though not one that is bushy or scraggly in any way. Alexander is rather clean cut. Skin is light. His eyes are bright blue and a little unsettling. However, it should be noted that he is in his prime and very good looking. He usually dresses for the period--a simple tunic. It appears that some sort of embroidery was torn out of the back, and that perhaps at one point the tunic was part of some sort of uniform that was either his or stolen. He is wearing leather boots and gloves and has a simple pack over his shoulder. He has a longsword clipped to his belt.

Posessions: Not much. A little money, some assorted things in his pack--think small: spare change, a small amount of food, maybe a dagger or knife. Nothing powerful or important. Just generalized survival gear. Maybe even some bandages. Carrying a longsword.

History: Alexander was born Thomas Grenary and grew up just outside of Marn. He lived his childhood on a small plot of land passable as a farm with his sister and parents. A popular child and ever the adventurer, Alexander thrived on finding new things to do and new people to meet.

This taste for adventure eventually led Alexander to the city guard around the age of 16 or so, and he joined expecting a great adventure. Sadly, he was sorely disappointed. He found the life of a glorified soldier to be rough and brutal, all for the exchange of the word 'honor'.

Ever belligerent and always up for a challenge, Alexander never failed to second guess his superiors and generally run amok of things. After a while, the high constable, seeing that he lacked loyalty, simply allowed him to desert with no further penalties. The only sacrifice to this was that Alexander was essentially run out of town. He lasted barely a month.

This brings him to his current situation. Ever since leaving the guard, Alexander has been wandering from place to place, picking up odd jobs and doing whatever he can to make some money. He stays where he can, which varies from a cheap tavern to outside under the stars. A shameless womanizer, he is not above flirting his way to a place to stay.

Alexander has always had a knack for getting into tight spots, and the last few places he has stayed have resulted in him being forcibly removed after only a few days for various offenses, including the involvement in bar fights and shamelessly flirting with the innkeeper's daughter to the point where the man got so bothered that he refused to allow Alexander to stay any longer. Pranks are also a forte of his: he loves a good joke, even if it gets him into some trouble.

Alexander's wanderings have taken him far and wide, but now he returns to Marn and prays that none of his former fellow guardsmen will recognize him. For this reason he has changed his name, grown a small beard and keeps his hair short, to offset his appearance. For the last six months or so, this has worked in his favor.

Alexander can be reluctant to talk about certain aspects of his past. However, he can be badgered into it if it is the right person doing the badgering. Beware: he is not above lying.

Powers and Strengths: Alexander is, as a friend once put it, a 'vanilla human'. He has some skill with a sword, but not much else. He's physically powerful enough to get along in the world, but could be easily bested in a fight by the right person. He's crafty, though.

Weaknesses: Belligerent, foolish, somewhat vain. Alexander can become very annoying very quickly. Seems to have no loyalties, though in reality he does.

Living establishments: Wherever he can find. He tends to drift from place to place.

Hi Alex! Please be advised that the entire region of Thar Shaddin doesn't have anything resembling knighthood. The region exists of a small village and a larger city, surrounded by plains inhospitable to anything but unincorporated settlements and nomads. It's in the area we think of today as Eastern Europe.

If you would like your character to have a history with some sort of organized military (cavalry? footsoldier? mercenary? Your description sounds like a variation on the traditional concept of knighthood), then he would probably have been affiliated with another governing power. Take a look at the map for starters (http://www.tharshaddin.com/setting/map-tahrenor.php) and also read up on the different regions of the world--it sounds like he is probably from Western Eyropa. Incorporating this information into his history and perhaps how long he has been in Thar Shaddin (if he has just arrived, perhaps?) will help us approve the character.

Our setting is one that tends to play pretty heavily into plots, with government figures interfering in people's business. It helps to know where a character is coming from, and also it can help you to establish relationships with other players if you have a firmer idea of his um . . . trajectory.

Feel free to edit your profile for consideration!

Also please post a reply to this topic when you've made your chances so that we know to check it again.

The idea of being allowed to desert the City Guard is not exactly in keeping with the organization's current manifestation, but assuming this happened more than a few years ago, before the Guard was handled by Smithson, we might imagine some bad apples slipped through the cracks without the knowledge of those in higher power.

We can presume he is trying to remain incognito, and also that nobody supervising him was terribly strict at the time of his departure, or else the punishment at the time, and the consequences following him, would be severe. This could certainly be incorporated into whatever plots ideas you have for the character.

Approved.
